      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Vincent, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball. 😎

    Great video Tom. I recently discovered that if I move my awareness into my shoulders once I’m set up, and keep it there throughout the swing, everything else happens automatically. No swing thoughts required, just shoulder awareness. It’s like my body knows how to swing, I just need to get my thinking mind out of the way and let it happen. It was a bit scary at first (being a control freak and all), but the results speak for themselves. I guess I’m finally starting to ‘trust’ my swing. Thanks so much Tom, you’re a brilliant teacher.

      That's perfect, Will, as it is exactly where I want golfers to get to!! If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.
      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Thanks for your support in sharing your improvement and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪

    When I shot my best round ever (70), I had just read Carl Lohren's book, "One Move to Better Golf." I put the move into play that day, which was starting the swing with the left shoulder. By doing that, I made the shoulder turn you showed, and the results were amazing. I have to keep reminding myself to do it as I've gotten older. One thing that helps is to keep my chin up. This allows my left shoulder to turn freely. If my chin is down, my left shoulder hits it and causes me to sway and I can't make a full turn. I once saw a guy on the range take this to the extreme. Not only did he turn his back to the target, he also turned his head so that he was facing almost backwards. He didn't look at the ball until he was in the downswing. I have to admit that as goofy as it looked, he was striping it.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому +1

      There is a very good reason why Arnold Palmer's favorite tip was to point the lead shoulder at the ball! And as for turning the head, some measure of head cock is fine as long as the head doesn't move out of the "box" established at address. This in terms of Jack Nicklaus, for example. And there are plenty of others on Tour who do this to some degree.
      By the way, with regard to your comment about getting "older", I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. Tom, this really resounds with me. I often lean towards a half/3 qtr swing (worrying about slow takeaway and keeping club face at the right angle) and the downswing varies. Then I go to the range and take a better body turn and long backswing and my ball strike improves.
    In fact my "feel" is that a full turn actually slows my whole swing down and stops me slashing down at the ball. I wasn't sure if that feel was real so it's good to see you explain that,so thanks.
    In fact the full swing has also helped me to get a better feel for the "sling" motion on the club, which I think a lot of us struggle with?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Місяць тому

      I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Lee!
      With regard to the feel you are trying to build in, there are a couple of things at play here: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top and thereby lose our sequencing (a very common affliction within the amateur golfing realm). Our perfect tempo/rhythm - which is unique to each of us individually - enables us to gather and unload the various components in proper order for seemingly effortless, powerful ball striking bliss. Executing a full shoulder turn is a key component for accomplishing this, since an abbreviated motion lacks both rhythm and a natural stopping point and thereby encourages the "hit" instinct to take over.
      By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. Indeed, the need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.

    Timeless classic, the arms only player. Lol using these methods are far superior for consistency, especially with a good set up. The turn is key, tempo and timing is amazing. Everything has to be in time, being a musician also helps me have a good swing tempo. I watched a video "Tempo of the tour pros" which show a variety of tempo, however I prefer fast tempo, practice shot before hit to keep everything in line every 6-7 shots right now. Great video about rotation

      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому +1

      I appreciate that, Craig, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
      With regard to rhythm, there are two things at play here: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top and thereby lose our sequencing (a very common affliction within the amateur golfing realm). Our perfect tempo/rhythm - which is unique to each of us individually - thereby enables us to gather and unload the various components in proper order for seemingly effortless, powerful ball striking bliss.
      Now, with regard to "timing", one neat feature of this system - and one of the reasons golfers experience such dramatic improvement after transitioning to it - is that it does not rely on precise timing or superhuman hand-eye coordination. Instead, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot.
      Thanks again for your message!

    As an older golfer, I always love when you break out the obscure early 80s music references. I am totally here for it! Two-fer today with Cindi Lauper and the Police! Winning!
    In my last round, my swing fell apart for a few holes towards the end of the round and it all felt forced. Looking back, I see that I was thinking about my shoulders in the backswing, but my legs in the downswing. Does just thinking about getting the trail shoulder under the chin keep the downswing and strike consistent?

      LOL! I'm glad to know that you're enjoying my "lesson and a show" instruction style!!
      With regard to your question, it's really a matter of what works best for *_YOU!_* Personally, I prefer that my students and members get to the point where they have one swing trigger that sets the entire motion on autopilot with no need for any mid-swing thoughts.
      In more general terms, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my UA-cam content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

      I tend to leave the stretching and fitness stuff to the experts in that field. I will say this, however: A significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. _It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._ Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.

      I personally just look at the top of the ball as I find that helps me to keep my head in place throughout the motion - a very important swing key for consistency. That's me. Some have success focusing on a particular quadrant of the ball or even a specific dimple. Still others do well with concentrating on a spot in front of the ball. You have to figure out what works best for you and your tendencies.

Now I’m doing it with the iron and applying that Peter Cowen’s Right Shoulder loaded thought and right hand -forearm force applied to the ball, with the shoulder as the trigger. One more thing , I like the Songs parts you use to bring to the golf , since I do the same all the time , they call me the jukebox , that’s because I’ve been a Radio Rock host for more than 25 years!! I still remember clearly when I was younger I wasnt that strong and I had to have my elbow more tucked into my body and it looked like young rickie fowler and one day my coach was like you need to fix the takeaway and get you shaft more vertical on the way back. I used to be like a decent short game away from shooting in the 80s. and after changing the takeaway I lost my swing completely and started shooting triple digits (growing older and moving back teeboxes in tournaments didnt help either). My coach also kept beating down saying that I wasnt shallowing it correctly, all the feel he would say was contradicting to what what he was teaching. In the end I had so little confidence that I just stopped playing when covid came around. I wish I had seen this when I was younger and maybe I wouldnt have stopped playing for such a long time... Its so refreshing to see such a more relaxed way of teaching and I wish more golfers can see this video.

      I'm so sorry to learn that your "coach" ruined what appeared to be a fundamentally sound motion. How interesting and sad it is that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness….

So I have been working hard and fixing up my short game I am back again and Im shooting low 80s on a good day and perhaps just over 90 on a bad day. I felt like the swing thoughts you mentioned helped my consistency as we approach the season. I do feel like the average golfer doesnt stick to one coach's teaching and kinda gets a bit of everything and makes their swing too complicated (like trying to shallow out from two different swing planes. ) I do actually think improvements in technology have made people worse at golf because they dont "grind out" the correct technique and they might think their doing it correctly but its just the club being very forgiving. Regardless of that keep up the great work👍

This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
      We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".

      Well, Terry, I suppose you've got a decision to make, but the good news is that it doesn't need to be a painful one that requires too much thought!
      The body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
      Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100.
      Now, if you'd like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider the aforementioned online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. Nice job!! There are two things at play in this regard: 1) Discovering and dialing in our ideal swing tempo, and 2) Feeling that transition - or the change in direction - so we don't rush our downswing from the top and thereby lose our sequencing (a very common affliction within the amateur golfing realm). Our perfect tempo/rhythm - which is unique to each of us individually - enables us to gather and unload the various components in proper order for seemingly effortless, powerful ball striking bliss.
      Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Місяць тому

      Hi David,
      If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot.
      While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    Tom, curious as to what size grips you use? I've made the transition from standard to midsize grips and the difference has been really good - much more centred contact, better compression, zero hooks, baby fades. Have you ever given this issue much attention? Curious to get your thoughts.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Місяць тому

      I've actually given it quite a bit of attention. In fact, I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally liked the feel as well as how they helped to keep my hands quiet through the zone.
      Now, having said that, I purchased a new set of PXG's in the spring of 2023, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently.
      The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf.
      Great question!
      Tom

    With the Saguto refinement to my swing, with zero warm up in high 50’s with a consistent 2 1/2 - 3 club wind, I shot a miserable 46 on the front. I wasn’t worried though. I dialed in my contact over the winter… it would just be a matter of time. I parred the back 9 with the exception of a ridiculous gust that blew my lay up on a par 5 in the water. Took a 7 on that par five for a 38. Trust the process and it will pay dividends…

      I understand, Phil. It's so important to feel the transition in order to suppress the "hit" instinct and get the downswing started in the proper sequence, and a brief pause at the top is an excellent way to accomplish that. Here are some lesson videos related to this topic:

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Місяць тому

      Some of the setup keys are as follows, Zachary: We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing.

    I would say it's very hard to not shift when body starts to engage. For example the guy you showed - he pops up when he is using his body and shifting. Im sure after practicing, he will get a better controlled body, but I really think that's where the all-arm issue comes into play. It keeps the body more still over the ball instead of up/down right/left.
    Man.. golf is awesome and difficult lol!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому

      The need for a _weight_ shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of _pressure_ into the trail side during the takeaway.
      Golf is indeed awesome, but it doesn't have to be so difficult!
      Tom

      How's about I just offer my thoughts on the topic and then you can do the comparing and contrasting?.... 😎
      While this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.
      As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look.
      I hope that helps!

      What works best all depends on the individual golfer, Lee. This is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and results. As you'll notice in my other reply to you, I routinely recommend the online school - saguto.golf - to anyone who truly wishes to experience the joys of consistent, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss. The sequential lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.
      Cheers!

    Well, you certainly have great shoulder turn. And, a good turn begins with doing the no club swing exercises that you demonstrate. One other great exercise is to stand with your arms by your side with your fleeting pointing out in the direction that your elbows point. Then just simply raise your right arm, just enough to be able to swing back. Flex your arm back as far as you can, as you swing back; and, then then straighten your arm. Stretch your arm behind your back, on the sample that your toes right foot is pointing. Should find that the shoulders turn beyond 90

      @SagutoGolf  Місяць тому

      I'm certainly a proponent of stretches and exercises that can increase range of motion and strengthen the muscles used in the swing, though I do tend to defer to the experts in that realm. Having said that, and as I'm sure I've mentioned previously, a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. _It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._ Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Thanks for sharing your stretching routine for increasing your shoulder turn!

      @@SagutoGolf Thanks for that, Tom. I started stretching my arm back to help correct my collar bone injury- I broke my clavicle when I was a kid- but, I, also, got the idea for my exercise from Mo Norman's address position. He positioned the club well behind the ball, so I just hold my right arm in the same position, as him, when I do the drill. Obviously, this helps me to swing my arm on the inside and get into a deep position

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Місяць тому +1

      It is essentially the same swing with every club, Earl; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

    Might be mistaken but in earlier videos you advocate almost swing your arms almost around your waist. So keeping your arms below your shoulder level. Your hands and arms now look much higher in the backswing. Am I mistaken? Thanks😊

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому

      The hands around the waist thing was a "feel", James - directed particularly at those golfers who had ingrained a motion that had them independently lifting their hands and arms while turning their shoulders more level. In actuality that feel will produce a top-of-backswing position that has their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes - just like we see with so many Tour players' swings.
Love your teaching styles in both golf and guitar. I'm also into both golf and guitar. I do notice in golf even when you try to show the poor swings like the arm swing you showed here, you still flush the golf ball. Can here the sound of compression on both the good and bad swings. Your ability to meet the ball with the center of the club takes lots of practice. Like guitar finding a zone while playing don't happen unless you've practiced hours a day for a good amount of time and practice the right things and correctly. Repetition is key to being good at anything. I've got friends who can't understand why they can't compress the ball and hit it square/crispy 😁 I just say come on now, you got to put in the time and reps 1st, then you can complain. 🙃 Not happy with that statement

      Hi Matt,
      There are various causes of toe hits, with the most common being related to setup (for example, the arms are not hanging down naturally and are in fact reaching away from the body at address) or a downswing path that is coming from the outside and across the ball. Having said that, it's really not possible for me to diagnose the cause of your toe hits without actually seeing your swing, though I would start with the setup prior to diving into any swing interventions.

      LOL! The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. There's no "weight shift" and thus nothing to "reverse"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
      Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, and based on unsolicited feedback I'd say it's working quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    That was so helpful to understanding tempo and why my slow swings go further. Trouble is when nerves set in - ponds etc it all goes to pot. Thanks for this explanation

      I'm glad to know that this video's topic and lesson resonated with you, Denise, and I certainly do understand the challenge! It's definitely not easy to transpose that perfect practice range rhythm to the pressures of play, and then all the more difficult to sustain it over the course of an entire round. There are two things we should always check first before we even think about messing with our swing if we start to leak oil mid-round: 1) Our setup - alignment, grip, connections, ball position, hand position, etc., and 2) our tempo (which has a direct correlation to whether we are truly making a full shoulder turn or are in fact abbreviating it and then rushing down from the top). With regard to the latter, it can be helpful to find a favorite song with a matching rhythm that you can internalize and call upon each time you address the ball.
