Okay, but this is absolutely hysterical because in this moment, each member of the band is being so unabashedly themselves. Neil gets up and says something super eloquent and waxes poetic, Geddy humbly mentions his roots as a Jewish boy from Toronto, and Alex says literally nothing but BLAH and dramatic hand gestures for two minutes. Like, can we just appreciate this moment? Absolute gold.

For ex. when they started using synth/keyboards in the 80's Alex's guitar took a back seat. How many guitarists would have quit the band over "musical differences"? When Neil was going through hell and back they didn't get new drummer. They waited... FOR 5 YEARS!

Then the flying motion and guitar shortly after was going to America and getting big. Phone ringing is present day getting inducted to the hall of fame, crying and a note was basically a sentimental speech. There IS a story in Alex's BLAH BLAHs... This is my best shot at a translation after listening to it a couple of times:
    "Thank you.
Thank you very much, but I've got a story to tell you about how we got in.
We're working hard. We're touring on buses, we're flying all over the place, staying in hotels night after night.
We're playing our stuff, writing hits... (sings a little Tom Sawyer guitar riff, drum fill from the break and vocals)
So we're doing our thing - THEN ONE DAY - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME - contacts us.
    "Can WE get in?"
    "Hell no."
    "Well why not? We've had 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... gold albums! Why not??"
"So what - you're still not in. You're not cool enough."
    "We're not in?"
    "You're NOT IN!"
    "Well - FUCK YOU!!!!"
Whatever... So... time goes on, we keep touring, doing our thing... then one day... (phone rings)
"Hello... Yes?.. WHAT?? REALLY??? THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Bye!"
They took us! We couldn't believe it. So... We got all dressed up, in our best clothes, came to the ceremony (pull out self-important speech),
"I'd like to thank" BLAH BLAH... (starts crying about how great his bandmates are, how he couldn't have done it without them, "I love them" etc.) BLAH..
Well, that's enough about all of that. Thank you, HOF. Thank you all. And Neil. And Geddy. And most of all - thank YOU (pointing at the crowd). Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
    ---------------------
No, thank YOU Alex, Geddy, and Neil - for being the most thought-inspiring and unique band on the planet. They are The Beatles to me.

Neil: "The RRHOF isn't a big deal to us, but this audience of peers and fans and the great musicians who say they got their start after being inspired by Rush, ARE a big deal." The best part is his subtlety, such as saying indicted instead of inducted, which any Rush fan should know was not a mistake, as many in the audience apparently thought. Look it up, and use a real dictionary this time instead of the interwebs, just because Neil would be happy that you held some paper in your hand that you didn't use to wipe your butt. "Theirs is truly the praise of the praiseworthy." In other words, one need only look at some of the garbage you inducted before us to know what we really think of you. He also put a lot of stress on the fact that they had been a working band for 39 years, to clearly and succinctly state their qualifications. 'Nuff said. And, yes, he offered a sincere tribute to absent friends and family, as well as to all present. Class act that he is, he didn't leave anyone out, including the road crew and all of the behind-the-scenes crowd.
Geddy: His version of "Blah blah" could have been, "The fans, the fans, fans and the fans, the fans the fans... THE FANS! (F___ you, RRHOF.)" Doesn't even mention, much less thank, the "dignitaries" who inducted them.
Alex: With acknowledgement to the other great commenters and their synopsi, here's my take-
"Here we are. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! They finally inducted us. We've been playing our asses off for years and just doing our thing, not really caring about accolades from two-bit institutions like the RRHOF and now, lo, and behold, they get around to letting us into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME! Oh, lucky us! We're so honored. Really? Are you sure we're good enough? You didn't think so before. (RRHOF: Well, we didn't.) Why not? We met all of your qualifications: 25 years+ performing, huge fan base, millions of records sold, even some hits on the pop charts, and then some. (RRHOF: Yeah, but you just weren't OUR kind of a Rock and roll act.) Oh yeah? F___ YOU! Whatever. A long time ago we realized that we weren't your kind of thing, and as time went on it meant less to us and we just kept on doing our thing. Then one day... the phone rang. "Hello? What? NO! We're being inducted into the RRHOF? You're f'ing s'ing me! (Hangs up.) They want US in the RRHOF. Can you imagine that? We ARE their kind of thing (or our fans put so much freaking pressure on them that they were looking pretty stupid). (Gets all dressed up, goes to the ceremony and pulls out the requisite sappy speech.) (Sarcastically) We are so honored to be here. We want to thank a bunch of people. Especially these two guys! (Blubbering) I love you guys! It's just meant so much to me! Yeah, screw all that crap... Anyway, here we are. We did this thing. Seriously, though, I love these guys, I love this audience and I love our fans! Thank you! (X3)
Dead on. Perfect. Not one blah too many.

I know there are people getting angry at Lifeson for that speech, thinking it goofy or disrespectful, but what he did was pretty amazing. He told a story with all those 'Blah Blah Blahs'. It was basically a history of the band, playing around the world and having major accomplishments, then after being eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame not getting on the ballot. Yet more playing around the world and more accomplishments until they are finally voted into the Hall. He answered the phone and is informed of the good news, fancies himself up and writes a speech, which he produces and reads from. If you understand where it all came from, it makes it a little easier to stomach. Honestly, watch the speech again with the above in mind. I died laughing, as a RUSH fan, following along with his thought process. Simply brilliant, start to finish.
