Terrence Shannon is also an elite downhill athlete and might be more NBA ready with a much higher defensive floor, which the Wolves value. Great draft for them overall.
I'm a lifelong Kentucky wildcats fan and watched Dillingham all season. I also watch a lot of NBA games throughout the NBA season, especially the playoffs. The T-wolves vs Denver series was my favorite series of the playoffs by far. I honestly think Minnesota knocked it out of the park by selecting Dillingham in the draft. I think he'll fit perfectly into their offense, can't wait to watch Dillingham in a T-wolves jersey this upcoming season.
@@blablablaa14this is absolutely one of the most irritating things that is coming out about this man, when Steph Curry came into the league, he was in the same boat, everyone needs to lay off Rob's defense... He's going to get better
The Timberwolves got so much better with this pick. They are the favorite in the West now. People don’t realize how perfect Dillingham is for the Wolves. Connelly is a genius. NAZ REID
It's just such an innovative and clever move. How did Connelly get secure who could be the Wolves PG of the future given their tight circumstances without sacrificing a single core player or pick in this decade?? Has a GM ever straight swapped a pick in the next decade that at best could be a lottery pick for a *guaranteed* lottery pick? It feels unprecedented. Pulling that off also requires an ability to make connections, correctly gauge the needs of another GM and creatively capitalize on the situation. He's brilliant.
As a Wolves fan, they got the 2 things I thought the Wolves needed to take that final step: another player that can create their own shot, and a backup (soon to be starting 🤞) point guard. Fulfilling both needs takes an enormous load off Ant having to do everything and get gassed on the defensive end, so that he's not making tired mistakes at the end of games and can focus on hitting those beautiful clutch shots
I liked this draft in the sense where alot of players are put into situations they can thrive and succeed. Example here. Dillingham lacks defense, minnesota if any team in the league can help mask that.
Dillinghams offensive potential gauaging off college to me is exactly the same as what i saw of Ant at Georgia. Different offensive style and strengths but the same level of upside. IF he has an equivelant rookie season to Ants, on a per minute basis, since he will play far less minutes per game, then that could be huge. Like if he can average 10 ppg with 4 assists and somehow maintain elite shooting from 3, that is all we need of him this season.
Man what a fantastic deal! I fear that the Nuggets window might already be closing with how Minnesota, Dallas and OKC have gotten better. I also think that the Clippers did really well to keep them in the conversation. It's going to be another great battle in the West :)
NBA fans love to jump into conclusions and overhype these young guys. This is a good deal for both sides, imo rob will never be a superstar bit he will be good.
It's a good trade for both teams, not really a heist. The T-wolves have a specific need and plan for Dillingham, he's a great fit for their situation. They're obviously ready to contend for a championship now. The Spurs are putting maximum value on the flexibility moving forward to do whatever they need to build a sustainable championship contender around their future superstar. They don't want to be a contender for a few years, they want to be a contender for the entirety of Wembanyama's career. They had at least 50 wins in 18 of 19 years that Duncan was in the league, and never missed the playoffs. To do the same with Wemby will take incredibly careful and patient long term planning (especially in the "second apron" salary cap era)
I think he will be mentored on his defense and passing to a serviceable level while he can remain a score first guard, as Mike Conley will be his vet, which is great. Even if he starts with the second unit, that's pairing him with Naz Reid for a deadly 1/2 combo when the starters rest
His only weakness is his putrid defense, but his offense is exceptional. I cannot believe the Timberwolves were able to trade for him with the picks they did lol.
His offense is just good.. Nothing amazing in my opinion. Hes going to struggle finishing at the rim and he also takes a lot of bad shots while not really running an offense. Glorified 6th man imo
@@EDTheOneable I actually think he's a good finisher, he is dynamic at the rim and it will translate. He does take bad shots but, I've seen him make a lot of them as well. Also, shot IQ comes with expierence. He definitely has superstar potential imo.
I liked Dillingham in college, but I feel he might struggle his rookie year or it’ll be a struggle in the first half, and he turns it around later. I could see this being like a De’Aaron Fox/Darius Garland case where he has a horrible rookie year and then turns it around year 2.
@@EDTheOneable The fact that he can get all the way to the rim and doesn’t need to take tough shots, and then also is a good playmaker and off ball scorer really tells me he is more than a sixth man. Compare his offensive production to previous Kentucky guards and he’s better than all of them outside of Jamal. Defense is a problem though but not on the wolves.
@@nanagotham1590 he got to the rim against college bench units and still was finishing way under the rim unless it was a clean blow by which is just something that isn't going to happen nearly as much at the NBA level. Remember he is 6ft tall and will be the smallest player in the league.
I love this move by the bulls. It's aggressive and timely considering the T'wolves timeline with Gobert and Towns. It checks every box and takes advantage of a Spurs team with ample picks and a plethora of guards
I havent seen a lot of college bball so im getting a lot of Tyrese Maxey Vibes off him. Can someone familiar with both tell me if Maxey is an achievable ceiling for Dillingham and where they differ as player / what Rob needs to improve to get on that level?
Dilly and Maxey have the same type of offensive game to a T. But i think Dillingham had a bit more Garland passing ability. Former Kentucky players are notorious for not being able to showcase all of their talents while playing for Kentucky. Like Kat did not shoot threes much. Booker did not playmake. Etc. Etc.
I like that they’re pushing all their chips in in an effort to be a relevant franchise. I worry about the future though with all that draft capital gone.
How you gonna trade a top 10 pick for a pick in SEVEN YEARS? Especially when you’re trying to build around Wemby to be competitive now. Must’ve really not been able to get anything else for the pick.
Hear me out: I feel like the best case scenario for the timberwolves is if Dillingham can have an impact in the next few years similar to Jordan Poole in 2022. At base, he can be a much needed scoring punch on the ball where we saw KAT and everyone else really couldn't hang in the playoffs. But if he can be an athletic and aggressive dribble penetrator who can hit threes, be it starting or off the bench, that could be just what the doctor ordered. He doesn't need to be Jamal Murray. He just has to be a good scoring push

Have any Spurs staff commented on their reasoning for this trade? This is beyond suspect 😆. They trying to hurt their team? Can anyone figure out how this makes sense for the Spurs?
Most of defense is just effort, a lot of guys don't want to play defense if they have to put 110% into offense. Coach Finch has created a culture where literally everyone cares about defense, and the best part about that is that it means that everyone gets to put in less effort on defense overall. You're simply not going to get as gassed playing defense in Minnesota as say Trae Young would get on the Hawks since there are SO many players who can cover for your mistake. Hell Jaden McDaniels came into the league with a 'shooter' archetype and now people pretty much only give him consideration as a defender. Dillingham will 100% improve as a defender while in Minnesota and in a few years people might not even say it's a flaw in his game, but I'm also not going to be surprised if his shooting efficiency drops from college.
