The reason the Spurs are considered a dynasty from 1999-2014 isn’t just because they had Tim Duncan and Coach Pop but also because they never had a losing season through out that stretch.
They never missed the playoffs and had 50 wins or above every season, so they were considered a title contender every year that Duncan played on the Spurs.

Honestly I think Larry Bird’s Celtics should be considered a dynasty. They won three chips in six years, while making the finals every year between 84-87 in a stacked East. To me that’s plenty of domination to be considered a dynasty. In fact that’s what made the Lakers and Celtics rivalry of the 1980s so unique, it was not just two teams, but two DYNASTIES going at each others throats fighting for legacy.

Another analogy to the DWade Heat “dynasty” would be that Kobe (and DFish) were on the 00-02 Championship teams as well as 09-10, so it would be like saying the Lakers were a Dynasty from 2000-2010. Which is beyond just a stretch.

In my opinion, a Dynasty should probably at least have a Back-to-Back in their run.
Also, one could argue that Lebron James was a one-man Dynasty even though he was on 3 different teams:
      -Back-to-Back Chips (12,13)
-3 Chips in 5 years (12,13,16) - same as Spurs
      -4 Chips in 9 years (12,13,16,20)
      -8 Straight Finals (11-18)
      -9 Finals in 10 years (11-18,20)

Jordan didn't suffer 'Too much rest' in '95.
He trained his body for a completely different sport. He wasn't resting, he was working his ass off-just not at basketball.
So yes, he came back unprepared for basketball, and became fatigued.
If fatigue and fitness was a factor, we would expect this to be rectified after a pre-season of proper basketball preparation. So what happened the year after?
    Oh, 96 Bulls. That's right...
And your next argument is even worse.... 'The Chicago bulls claim to the best team ever in 96 is crap, because the Chicago bulls were the best team ever in 92'.
    What a weird argument...

I feel like it’s also important to point out the Lakers game 6 vs the kings, where kings were up 3-2. The refs proceeded to send lakers to the line 27 times to Kings 9 in the 4th quarter alone, with Tim Donaghy admitting that they were rigging it. Lakers eventually beat them in 7 but if it weren’t for the officiating they wouldn’t have gotten there in the first place

He didn’t rest for two years, he was playing a totally different sport for 2 years… They still lost fair and square to Orlando ( H Grant was a huge loss for them and a massive win for Orlando), but it’s obvious that MJ wasn’t back to shape yet. Just look at the next season and how much better he was after a few months of training.

I'm aware that 1957 to 1969 was long ago and the skill sets were different and there were a lot fewer teams, but it amazes me how many people discount the Celtics winning 11 titles in 13 years. People debate MJ and Kobe, but Bill Russell has as many rings as they do combined! People criticize greats for not winning (took MJ 7 years, Kobe has some bad seasons, James lost a lot of finals, Duncan didn't go back-to-back) as if it's fair to expect a great player to win every single year. However, there was in fact a great player who did win damn near every year, and yet he's not praised at all but completely disrespected as a plumber. It's so strange to me.

    • @DavidChen322
      @DavidChen322 14 днів тому

Plus, people have no idea how hard it is to win again. Right after you win, all teams are gunning for you. Heck, in 1969, the Lakers even put up a super team (Wilt, West, Baylor) to go against Bill Russell's Celtics, and they still lost.
Everyone acknowledges that Wilt and West could still play in today's game. They went against Russell multiple times, and lost every time.

  • @DKtrek21
    @DKtrek21 Місяць тому +1

Argument for the Warriors is applicable to all dynasties. Are we just going to ignore that the Celtics dynasty was a walking Hall of Fame? The Showtime Lakers with Magic basically having his personal dream team? The Bulls having the best player and arguably the second best player along with the best role players in that era? So was the Kobe-Shaq, are we gonna ignore that Kobe and Shaq was the highest scoring duo in playoff history and their supporting cast is made up of the best defensive players in that era? Lastly the Spurs, their core were all stars at some point in their career plus they got a solid young kid in their last chip that went to be a DPOY and FMVP in two separate teams.
You can't be a dynasty if you don't stack the best players available. That's a prerequisite. The only bad thing the Warriors did was to trade for the second best player in the league while they had the best record of all time the previous year.

The 73-9 with unanimous MVP Warriors Team wasn't the KD one, but the Harrison Barnes, Green, Curry and KT. Four drafted players.
After Barnes leaves and KD arrives, Warriors wasn't able to even get closer to finish with 73-9 or better. And still with four drafted players, as Bogut leaves and Looney take his place.
So, I dont think this situation is similar to USA Team in any aspect, as the USA Team coach have 30 NBA teams to pick any player he want to pick.

In my opinion, a Dynasty should probably at least have a Back-to-Back in their run.
Also, one could argue that Lebron James was a one-man Dynasty even though he was on 3 different teams:
    -Back-to-Back Chips (12,13)
-3 Chips in 5 years (12,13,16) - same as Spurs
    -4 Chips in 9 years (12,13,16,20)
    -8 Straight Finals (11-18)

To me a dynasty is winning at least 3 championships in a 5 or 6 year span. So in the NBA the dynasties have been the 50s Lakers, 60s Celtics, 80s Lakers, 80s Celtics, 90s Bulls, 2000s Spurs, 2000s Lakers, and 2010s Warriors. Other teams fall just short, winning two championships such as the 70s Celtics, late 80s Pistons, 90s Rockets, late 2000s Lakers, and 2010s Heat.

Good video. I think my only comment would be the reasoning between the Celtics of the 60s and the Bulls of the 90s.
The Celtics had a league too small and the Bulls had a league too big? What is considered just right?
It's not the Celtics fault that the league was 8-10 teams. They still played a full season which was roughly about 80 games, and those teams they faced were fierce. Why? Because they faced them so much during regular season, they all knew each other. Much like teams in the NFL know each other's division rivals. That's as close to parity as you are going to get. Another thing, the Celtics were a championship team that knew how to win. They did not dominate other teams. We see the results, but many of those playoffs and championships either went the distance or very close. People should look it up and see. Many of these championships went 6 or the full 7 games. That's extremely competitive.
As for the Bulls and expansion era reason? That's not their fault either. By this argument, all the teams had it easier with the addition of 4 new teams in the expansion era. Not just the Bulls. Plus how many times would the Bulls (or any other team) face these expansion teams? It doesn't make sense that the Bulls would have an advantage over these 4 new teams and every other team wouldn't. That's not realistic.
I think we have to be careful about how we just write off the eras that we did not witness. Namely the Minneapolis Lakers and Boston Celtics Dynasties. I have personally spoke to people who witnessed the Celtics of the 60s and they state very passionately that it was very competitive, physical and that the NBA is softer than it was in the 60s. Unfortunately, I do not know anyone who witnessed the Minneapolis Lakers 5 consecutive championships run. I wish I did because referring to those who witnessed it can give us who didn't a better perspective.
My opinion on the Warriors dynasty? Their best championship was against the Boston Celtics. The Celtics may not have had championship experience, but the glue to that team was in the playoffs time and time again. Tatum, Brown and Smart. They were seasoned. In fact, many 'experts' picked them over the Warriors in 2022. Younger, more talented, better bench, better defense, better matchup, etc.
That being said, you did a very good job. Keep up the good work!

Might have only ruined “never went to game 7” even tho they’re also the only dynasty to never lose a series at all. Then the “fatigue is more valid then rust” which he kind just made up. But doesn’t that just make it MORE impressive that twice they won after the fatigue of winning back2back?
