  • The drivers side panel on my FJ Cruiser fell off. Well... it actually FLEW off on the freeway. It took be a bit to figure out what the panel was called but once I found the word cowel I was able to get the parts needed and replace it. I'm assuming if you're watching this video then it's likely happened to you too... my sincerest apologies.

    You're an absolute legend! Just bought my fj, down here in the land of the kangaroo. Didn't know why my cowl was loose. Didn't think it was urgent, so i put it on the to do list. Thanks so much for giving the heads up.

    Without this video there's no telling how many mistakes I would have made. WITH this video I got it right on the first try. Thanks big guy, once again this forum has saved my bacon.

    My original cowl is laying somewhere in the center divider on the 395 in California. I found your video because I couldn't remember which of the arrow clips go where, very informative. Now I know to replace the clips if I ever need to get my windshield replaced again.

      Ah man. I know so many people find this video after the cowl flies off. Been able to save a few who have found it while it was still only just a little loose.

    Thank you for getting to the point. All the other videos about this issue seem to just drag on for no reason.

    Perfect! This happened to my wife's FJ today! Same panel flew off! She had the windshield replaced a few months ago, so now I at least know why it flew off. Thanks for the video. Now I know exactly what to do to fix it!

    Thanks for all the details about the clips, very simple parts and so confusing to get it installed.

    Also the trim piece above the windshield, window repair won't replace the clips, they just glue it back on and it will eventually fly off. That piece was $250 from Toyota not counting clips.

    I didn't lose mine yet, the AC repair shop tried to glue it back on and it didn't hold. So now I get to clean up that mess and install it correctly with the clips I got from Toyota. I got a full set left and right side cost was $38.63 FYI

      Agreed! I’ve had my windshield replaced a couple times from big cracks and always have a hard time educating the repair techs on how to do it properly.

      +Tom Abell so glad you found my video before it flew off! Makes me feel good I could save someone the hassle haha. I figured most people that find this would have already had it fly off.

    Disposable Plastic clips worth about $.02 and Toyota screws us to death to replace them. The top windshield piece the same way as a disposable metal piece now mass reproduced for a few dollars in cheap plastic and sold to us for $200.00. Bad enough the windshields break so often but then they have to gouge us for over double the cost to fix the disposable plastic crap. The windshield place said it's the worst design ever made and they even do exotic imports.

      Yep. I LOVE my FJ just like many people do, but that windshield is the worst. Gets chipped and cracked so easily. I know a lot of FJ owners opt to get insurance with really good windshield replacement policies so they can just replace it every year or so... because unfortunately that’s about how often it needs it.

      J Jack ... yes , absolutely the worst design by Toyota....

    For what was a “rugged “ vehicle, Toyota really screwed up on this cowl design....!

    • @Beardedbraceface
      @Beardedbraceface  Рік тому

      If it’s not clipped in properly it can easily come off on the freeway.
