@@ronnieleedilljrWOLFMAN And then, out of the blue, news drops that he’s gonna be filling in as the drummer for Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs this summer.
I saw it and was just trying to convey how phenomenal it was "LIVE" to my son. I'm so grateful I was able to take him to see them in Sacremento, August 2017 Thank you so much for sharing 👍👍
The intro was way ahead of its time. Had the honor of seeing Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers live back in 2014. We miss you, Tom and your music will forever live on.
I've always liked the band's extended jams playing live & this is no exception. I miss going to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers concerts R.I.P. Tom Petty R.I.P. Howie Epstein
50 years from now when all new generational youth say..."Who is Tom Petty..." Someone cool can slow down the moment, and with a relaxing chill smile, say "this is..., and this is also "music..."" Performed by a "group" that each love what they are doing, who they are doing it with, and most of all, who and why they are doing it for! And that's the real meaning of "Rock and Roll!" performed by by a "Rock Group!"
Got to be the BEST version of this classic song from TP&TH surely! This was when the band was utterly peaking. Can't say I've seen a better version. Astounding intro from Mike Campbell that I've never seen before. Ah yes the creativity and imaginations were definitely runnin down the dream Tom. Question is; how were those imaginations fuelled...and it wasn't simply just nicotine and caffeine me thinks...
There's a bootleg of them from 1987 in Jacksonville, Florida where Mike plays a long guitar solo with a wah-wah pedal as the intro for this song. It's probably my favourite version.
PolyphonicPress As you appear to seriously know your oats, can you please inform me and the many TP & TH fans globally, what the intended meaning of 'Don't Come Around Here No More' is as I have always wondered over the years. Cheers.
Blackscorpion1963 It's a quote from Stevie Nicks. She had an argument with Jo Walsh whom she was dating at the time & told him 'Don't come around here no more...' True story.
***** Cheers bro. I actually never knew Stevie & Joe Walsh were an item back den. Wow would've been an interesting relationship with both of them pretty hard players....I knew Stevie & Tom Petty were good friends though I thought Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie were inseparable...
I knew this full version had to be on UA-cam somewhere! Thank you so much for uploading it is so greatly appreciated. This is easily one of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers greatest songs and in particular versions of it. This is really the boys at their very best and it has to be appreciated as pure 100% classic rock music at its greatest folks. It just doesn't get any better than this. To be able to produce such an iconic Tom Petty ANTHEM takes more than nicotine and caffeine folks. Nowhatimean?
Hearing this for the first time at 16 years old changed my life - I watched the VHS of this specific show on repeat for years. Tom was a beautiful soul, the band were the perfect grouping creating magic. The world misses you Tom.
Great days....Great chemistry....GREAT BAND!! in every sense of the word. W/Out a doubt those precious few yrs this "line up your currently watching were among The Greatest EVER!! Enjoy your u-tube time machine
I have a vhs recording of this that I made when vh1 aired this back in the 90's, a total of about 10 songs, I can't remember the name of the show but they showed a concert every week. My wife and I spent many a night watching this concert. All I can say is AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!! Many thanks for posting.
If Stevie hadn't broke up with Jo Walsh & Dave Stewart decide not to go upstairs for a line this song might not have ever bee written!. Awesome intro from Mike Campbell...
that was fuckin awesome !!! i remember in 91' on the tour he did the same set in Dayton Ohio been looking for the someone that had a video of it. Thanks for posting its great. He will be missed in so many ways.
This is from "Take The Highway LIVE!". As stated, it was recorded on the 1991 tour. It was only released on VHS in the US, although there appears to be a Japanese laserdisc release. It has not (yet) been (officially) released on DVD. If you poke around on-line you might find a DVD-R copy, but I wouldn't want to encourage you to participate in anything questionable. Most of it seems to be available on UA-cam.
I love this sing...Dave Stewart is a terrific guitarist, songwriter and collaborator. He recent worked with Stevie Nicks on her album IN YOUR DREAMS. Stevie Nicks is the 5th HEARTBREAKER. Thinking out loud that a a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers/Eurythmics/Stevie Nicks combo would make for a terrific STADIUM TOUR. Stevie's lead guitarist, Waddy Wachtel, would "gell" right in there...
+Glenn Leahey There is 6 guys that are the Heartbreakers now, and Stan on drums and Howie on bass is both not in the band anymore. Howie died in 2003. So Nicks would be the 9th Heartbreaker...
It's was, and is, only available on VHS tape.....That's how dated this awesome concert was! :) But, it was an amazing performance, and absolutely one of their best recordings EVER! It totally rocks! And, it's still available, but only on tape. I wish someone would transfer all of these classics to a digital form...Ahhhh....Someday perhaps!?

The 80’s had the best music ever!
Words can't describe how fantastic this performance is, and how sad I am the world has lost Tom Petty.
I agree
2022 this intro one of the greatest of all time
Could not agree more. Miss this band.
I’ll never be able to get stoned and watch a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert, I guess this is the closest I get?
Wish I could have some smoke!!!!!
In the intro the musical instrument after guitar is called bouzouki and we use it for the greek folk music!!!respect TOM....
King of the Hill. I love this man and his voice.
Mike Campbell is such a fantastic guitar player . This is genius intro
I always knew Tom Petty had a wicked sense of humour. A class act, sorely missed.
