I am absolutely LOVING the Suhr Doug Aldrich pickups! They are really articulate and have incredible tone and versatility and I keep wanting to pick up my Keipro guitar on which I installed them!!! The BEST pickups ever??? Possibly 😊 Enjoy and have an amazing day everybody!!!!!! 😃
Thanks Jay for the kind words of incouragement, they mean so much, coming from you! Have a Blessed day! Thanks for the Sub my friend ! Again it means a tremendous amount to me! 👉🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have a set of these bad boys in my flying v. The thing I like about them are that they are powerful. I put them up against a Gibson 496 and a 500T. They have the balls of the same set but compared to the 500T it is clearer and not as muddy. A great addition to my collection now. I am hooked. Plus Doug is a good dude!
Very very cool! They are awesome pickup - interesting about the comparison with the Gibson pickup! Thanks for the info on that. I still love playing these pickups 😊 They have a great tone and plenty of punch 😊 🤘 🙏 Have an amazing day!!!
When you go running, there is no one to stop you. These solos with which you delight us would be a good new mastrer class to teach us as with your theme Lynch E-Field. It's a great Pickup, it sounds incredible both in the rhythmic sections and in the solos
Thank you so much Jordi! Very much appreciated my friend!!! I am planning to show some of these licks soon so yes that will happen 😃😃😃 Glad you liked the tone of the pickup as well! Have an amazing day man!
I just pulled a Doug Aldrich humbucker out of my GJ2 Glendora (I bought it used and that was installed) because it just didn't match the two single coils. I opted for a Suhr SSV+ to replace it, which works much better. That said, under heavy gain the Doug Aldrich pickup was awesome!!! I should also say, your guitar is just amazing!!!
Very cool! I have been curious about the SSV+ 😊 I'm really interested in how it sounds compared to the DA 😊 I'll no doubt pick one up at some stage! Thanks Cole and have an amazing day!
You answered my question immediately Jay,wanted to know about the tight response and if they are more hot or classic sounding. Always admired Doug's tone and playing. He's old school as far as not running a clean&dirty channel on his amps. He simply backs off the volume knob a bit to clean up certain picking parts of songs. Great review Jay. Have a great weekend friend!!
hey Lance 😊 Fantastic man! Glad you got the info that you needed 😊 Yes Doug's sound is excellent! I have heard that the pedal that was built for him is incredible as well - he has that whole LP, Marshall tone down so so well! Gotta love his playing as well 🙏 Enjoy and have an amazing day man!
that guitar is the most beautiful one i have ever seen. and the tone is incredible this video made me buy the same pickups.excellent playing might i add
Thanks dude 😊 Much appreciated. The guitar is a Keipro DS Deluxe. This is the final production model - they are on sale in Japan but I know that they have had some set backs so don't know if they are currently available. There are a few floating around on Reverb as well 😊 Hope that helps. Have an amazing day.
I put these in my USA San Dimas Charvel several years ago, theyre great, hot but clear. I got the Zebra set and theyre reversed with the white in the center and the black on the outside so theyre unique as well. Mark Day did a comparison with these against a set of EMG's. these won!
Very very cool man! And thanks for the head up about Mark's video - I will check that out! 😊 They are great pickups - thoroughly enjoying playing them! Really added to my Keipro guitar! Have an amazing day man!!!
Thanks so much man! 😊 🙏 Oh very very cool about the friendship man! I really dg the DA pickups. I'm finding that its the guitar with those pickups that i'm gravitating to right now. Balance is just right 😊 Thanks and have an amazing day!!!
Fantastic man! I should try on win my S&S guitar sometime as well - has a great response and that cross over vintage/modern vibe - love it!!! Have an amazing day dude! 😊
@@jayguitar thick as all get out, too. I think the neck pickup may be even more impressive. Friend of mine has one in a charvel, and it's really clear and warm and articulate. Doesn't get flubby with gain like some neck pickups are prone to do.
Hi Alexander, great to hear from you! 😊 my friend Stefan Hüther had mentioned your pickups to me in a message just this morning! Synchronicity! I'll gonna check out some youtube videos right now. Would be great to try some out as well so will be in touch! Thanks so much and have an amazing day!
Dear Jay, that has to be a Jungian synchronicity. I use Häussel PU's for years now in my custom Siggi Braun Guitars. Siggi Braun is also a swabonian manufactory with very high standards. Some call him the german Paul Reed Smith 😎 Siggi recommended the PAF 59 type for my last guitar, a superstrat with a brazilian rosewood neck. This neck in combination with the 59ers is (for now) the holy grail of tone for me. One word to your personality: you are one of the most accomplished players at youtube and a sympathic decent human being. A gentleman. Go on like this. I'm looking foreward to hearing your oppinion about the PAF 59 type.
Thats very very kind of you man! Thank you so much - its very much appreciated 🙏 I have heard of Siggi's guitars - Can't recall where but I must have seen them somewhere. Excellent that the pickups are working so well! Yeah it will be great to check them out for sure! 😊
Oh man I need a set of these to replace my 57’ classics in my LP. Great vid and tones!! How about a Randy Rhoads video? Maybe some of his licks? Thanks again :)
I'd agree , best ever .....I've used them for about 10 years and tried even different magnets ( thanks Jay)and still they sound stunning . Excellent video Jay and what a sound too .
Thanks so much Rich! My first experience of these was playing your ones 😊 You know, funny thing is, at that time I thought they were OK - playing them again though, I totally loved them! I guess my ear and tastes have changed over the years. Great seeing you this week! Have an amazing day!
How would these compare with say a EVO or EVO 2? What I don’t like on paper with these Aldridge pickups are the high DC resistance of 17. From what I understand and what others like lynch have said is 13-14 is the sweet spot and over that and you lose clarity , I am sure you heard him say that in the video he made about his Arcane PIckups
Hi Rex, I had an EVO for a short while sometime ago. I found the pickup to be very very tight sounding. The DA is much more open which I prefer. The EVO was quite dark in tone too - mid scooped a little. The DA is fuller to my ears. Thats the difference I found. Hope that helps. Have an awesome day!
Jay I was playing the Crafter Cruiser, it has a wide fretboard and gives a lot of room for my fat fingers, LOL, the pickups are original, they have a lot of (augh) to them .I would like the switch them out for some of the Doug Aldrich that you Previewed on your channel, or possibly some Tone Zones! Peace ✌🏻️have a great day brother
Oh cool man! I can't recall if I have played that guitar - I have checked it out though 😊 Totally love the Suhr pickups! I have played a few Dimarzios and they were good but these are really special imo. Worth a try for sure 😊 Enjoy and have an amazing day Dana!
Hi Jay ... amamzing video and evrything u play sounds fantastic...i see u got the same bridge in all your guitars installed is that a wilkinson vs 100n ?
Thanks so much Margarita. Its much appreciated and glad you enjoyed it. Yes thats correct - I use either the Wilkinson VS50MKII or the VS100 - love that bridge! Works really well for me together with locking tuners - feels like a Floyd Rose but without having to deal with the double locking. I find they have a little more openness to how they sound 😊 Have an amazing day!
Suhr’s best pick up is the Thornbucker. My definition of best is clear, clarity, definition and articulation. Love my Aldrich as well but not the same.
Totally love the Thonbucker+ That I have! 😃 You know, I was saying to a buddy of mine just yesterday that I would love to have a pickup with was a combination of the DA and the Thornbucker I think that would be a great combination 😊 I did a comparison between the DA and TB+ that you can check out - ua-cam.com/video/yOKFjUQ-fNY/v-deo.html - Thanks so much and have an amazing day! 😊
I have a Warmoth body/neck on order .. I think it shall have these pickups! I wonder how they would sound if I configured them to split same as my PRS Custom 24/Floyd???
Thanks man! Ah good Q! It would likely work pretty well - its a really punchy pickup. If you wanna retain that single coil style chime though, then the Thornbuckers would be a good choice too 😊 Have an amazing day!!!
Jay, my fellow Lynch aficionado ... :-) - awesome Demo! Musical and really showing what these pickups can do.. - looks you do this in combination with the Bluguitar Amp1... - that is even more cool!! Great Video!!! - Greetings, Markus
Thanks so much man! 😊 Really gal you enjoyed it - love these pickups! They totally rock! Yep, love my AMP1 - such an amazing piece of gear!!! 😃 🤘 Have an amazing day Markus!
Killer playing and killer sounding pickups Jay! Keep on ROCKING Brother! By the way there's a bunch of Lynch in there! You can 't hide it my man!!!!!!! It's your addiction and it's a great thing!!!!!!!
I agree with you 100%! Jay has got George Lynch down to an art! I was just kidding around with him (because we know each other) about I can always hear Lynch in his playing. He's recorded with George Lynch! He is friends with him. He spoke with him at NAMM this year.
Years ago, a friend of yours (or so they claimed) sent me some recordings you did with BKP's Nailbomb and trilogy suite pickups, and the playing and tone was absolutely excellent and sold me on that set.
Ah very cool 😊 Who sent it to you (just out of curiosity)? Yep, I did a recording many moons ago with those pickups. In fact, I just got my Trilogy working again! It wasn't showing a reading with a multimeter for years - I re-flowed the solder on the terminals on the pickup a few days ago and voila, working again! Yay! 😊 I'll install it on a guitar soon. Have an awesome day dude!
@@jayguitar I don't know him personally, but it was someone on the BKP forums. I was considering the Nailbomb and either Irish Tour and Trilogy Suite for an ESP Mirage Custom. I went with the trilogy suite the major issue was they were so loud and I could only lower them so far in that guitar that they overpowered the Nailbomb bridge. I ended up having some issues with my left hand maybe 10 years ago and couldn't shred anymore and became very fussy about which neck profiles didn't bother my hand and ended up selling the guitar and changing around my style to what I could play.
Damn man! I’ve been looking to buy a set of these to put in my Gibson SG but I had no idea you did a demo of them before! *I’m still hoping to buy another Gibson Les Paul ASAP because I love them!* But these pickups sound incredible and add thickness to the guitar tone. Cool demo as always!
Thanks man! Much much appreciated Josh 😊 Yeah the pickups are so awesome! I am loving the vibe that Suhr have come up with 😊 These are a fave right now! Have an amazing day man!!! 😃
I am highly considering purchasing a set of these to put in my Kiesel Delos. However, it would be really cool to see you do a review on Kiesel pickups. I think the best one for your style would be the M12SD. Would love to get your thoughts on that pick up it was designed for Jason Becker.
Hey Brother sick video once again just like all the rest of your videos LOL I wanted to ask you if you've ever installed those in a guitar that doesn't have a top on it and has a single volume knob I really want to put those in my Kiesel Type X guitar which features a single volume with no top wood and is a mahogany body but I'm afraid that I may lose some of the characteristics just because I don't have that tone knob option. I wanted to know your recommendation
Thanks so much Cody! Much appreciated and really glad you enjoyed it! 😊 🤘 🙏 I haven't tried it on a plain mahogany body I'm faired so don't know what the combination would sound like. I know that mahogany is pretty deep sounding so this pickup may work but depends on how bright you would like the tone to be. It sounds very balanced in the Mahogany/Maple cap guitar - probably the pickup I play the most as I love that Keipro guitar 😊 Have an amazing day!
Hi Jay Beautiful demo ...i want to buy them to install them in my American Standard Strat as a set ... can u give me the F space measure to order bridge and neck please ? Thanks !!!
hey Margarita, thanks so much! the spacing is 52mm on the F spaced pickup 😊 neck pickup will be regular 50mm as the strings taper in at that point. Hope that helps. Have an amazing day!
@@jayguitar Thanks...they offer them in 53 ? will they fit somehow without routing in a fender two point body and also i liked your tremolo soun is that a Wilkinson v100 ?
Hey Jay, you can always cut the pickup ears to fit your guitar, that's what I'm doing anyway. Btw, Suhr DA rocks, using the volume knob I get a really good vintage PAF sound.
Hey Ural, you're right dude - its something I do need to try out 😊 I haven't done it yet so was reluctant to do for my Keipro but have a buch of pickups in my workshop that I can experiment on. In fact my other Keipro needs a neck pickup so I can try it with that one 😊 Yes the DA cleans up really well - such a lovely response from the pickup! Thanks and have an amazing day man!
Hey Jay! Do you think that these would sound good in a single knob (volume) 24 fret neck thru guitar? I’ve seen these only installed on 22 fret instruments.
Should sound good on pretty much any guitar dude 😊 Its a great pickup. I love the tone but it comes down to what your ears tell you when you play the guitar/pickup combination 😊 Have an amazing day!
Hey Jay, i recently subscribed to your channel. You got some good content and play well. Never heared about a KEIPRO guitar.. so i look that up. It's for sure a nice axe, love the color and like especially the tremelo. About the pickups.. i would never buy personally expensive or signature ones. To pricy. I rather build them myself to the same specs. Like you said yourself, there are many cheaper alternatives, like the ones you mentioned. There are recently some new mostly UK based ccmpanies, who are certainly worth to check out. AlegreeGuitars UK, Warman Tennesee"s are great and the last new ones.. GuitarHeads. There all on You Tube. Check them out. Lastly, your a more shredder guitarist, but if you do a review of a pickup, you should do at least the CLEAN tones first. As we both know.. even cheap Chinese pickups sounds good with distortion, or at least much better. So, to me this is not giving "the real tone". Within a few months i will launch my own you tube channel, with various content and my own brand of guitars..and pickups, i'll keep you posted. Since i live in Belgium an come on a regular base to London, maybee we could catch up in the future, who knows ? Do you live far from London ? Cheers mate, keep on rocking ! Greets from Belgium, Bruno. EDIT: i apologize myself.. i stopped the vid at 95 % , ,posted a comment and then saw you do some clean tones, altough it's a bit short. Cheers.
Hi Bruno, thanks so much man! Really interesting points that you have brought up and you're absolutely right there are some fabulous manufacturers out there now - Iron Gear being another of my favourites! 😊 I have yet to try Warman pickups - I have heard very good things about them. Thats awesome about your own pickups and yes it would be excellent to meet! I'm in Brighton so only an hour and a half journey into London so totally doable 😊 Message me through my website and we'll hook up for sure as I'd love to hear more about what you so 😊 You're right about clean tones. Its something I realised at the end of the video and I should have included this play through as well - ua-cam.com/video/yOKFjUQ-fNY/v-deo.html - which has more clean sounds, with split coils as well. Oversight on my part 🙏 Anyways, enjoy and drop me a line dude 😊 Have an amazing day!!!
Hell yes. I got a set on my birthday list, going into a PRS. Does the Aldrich neck pickup have that wailing "womans voice" that Slash gets from his SD Alnico Pro?
Hey dude 😊 Oh very cool! you'll enjoy them for sure! Neck pickup sounds great too - really warm and full tone. Love the split coil sounds on these pickups as well - they has a great vive about them that I haven't experienced in other brands 😊 Thanks and have an amazing day!
Great review and awesome playing Jay, I’m thinking of getting these to replace my Burstbucker Pro’s in my Les Paul, do you have any experience with the Burstbucker Pro’s and if so how would you describe the difference. Thanks Jay keep on rocking my friend!
Thanks so much Mark! Much appreciated 😊 🙏 Oh cool man! The Bustrbuckers are great pickups! I have a little experience but not too much - from what I can recall (its been a while since I played them) the Burstbuckers were a little brighter, tonnes of clarity and punch - the DAs have that same clarity - voiced differently though, a little more warmth, a touch less top end. Both amazing! The Das are my current all round favourites - that tone is just magic I think 😊 Hope that helps! Have an amazing day!
@@jayguitar Great thanks Jay. That is good that they are a little warmer than the burstbucker pro's as mine are a little too bright so the DA's sould tame my guitar a bit. I have just order me a set of Aldrich pickups from guitar guitar! Once i've got them i will make a video comparing them to my Burstbucker pro's. Thanks for your help Jay!
Pretty much 😃😃😃 I love making the videos and playing music - gotta do it with a smile and enjoy the moment. And that permeates into my everyday life as well 😊😊😊 have an amazing day!!!
What are you using for your reverb and delay? These are what sound like all Axe FX or Kemper effects. I love this pick up! It has that Paul Gilbert "awe" sound sound don't you think?
Ah cool! I understand now 😊 🙏 I add the verb and delay in at the production stage so they are running as send effects in Cubase when I mix the track (tracks are recorded dry). I use the SoundToys EchoBoy delay plugin on the EchoPlex setting and reverb is SoundToys Little Plate. Thats all the effects I run. When I plug into a cab I use a Strymon El Capistan for delay - usually don't have reverb on my live overdriven sound 😊 The pickup does have a great deal of clarity for sure. Thanks man and have an amazing day!
Thanks so much man!!! Much appreciated 😊 🙏 Yep, I have a couple of BKPs in my guitars (Rebel Yell, Nailbomb and Blackhawk - had an aftermath as well which I sold, which actually likes in one of Rabea Massad's guitars now 😊) - I still have an endorsement with them as well! 😊 Great pickups - beautiful tones! Have an amazing day!
Thank you so much Stefan! Much much appreciated my friend!!! Some of the tones courtesy of your RedStuff 1987 which is just exquisite 🙏 Have an amazing day my friend!!!
Thanks so much man!!! Much much appreciated 😊 I play through a Friedman BE-OD pedal and BluGuitar AMP1 - This is my full set up - still using pretty much the same - sometimes I use different IR cabs - ua-cam.com/video/Bf7datORaqs/v-deo.html - Hope that helps. Enjoy and have an amazing day!!!
It's a great pickup and I liked mine a lot when I had it. When I swapped it for a Schecter sunset strip I liked the latter more tho, sounded more muscular and less brash (which is something I didn't like about the Aldrich at times)
Very cool. Ah interesting about the Schecter pickups - I didn't know about those. The other ones that I'm loving right now are the Bertozzi Guitar Works HotStar pickups - there are like a cross between the Aldrich and Thornbuckers 😃 Perfect combination for me! I will have a video of those up in about 3 weeks 😊 Have an amazing day!!!
@@jayguitar they made pickups since 70es but the brand is known more for cheap metal stuff than their custom shop products so their pickups are sort of hidden gems, but they are damn nice and full of character. A blend of Thornbucker and Aldrich seems amazing! I didnt know about the brand you mentioned, definitely checking asap and waiting for your samples, even tho you make even a cardbox guitar sound amazing man 😁
Hello Genius, how are you, I love that sound, incredible. Can you tell me exactly what model they are? Another query, I have an ESP M2, do you recommend these pickups for that guitar? Thanks Jay.
Hey Roque 😊 How are you doing man? I'm great dude! These are the Suhr Doug Aldrich humbuckers - bridge and neck. Yes, I think they would work really well in an M2. I love these pickups - one my my current favourite sets! They sound and feel so so good! 😊 Hope that helps - have an amazing day!!!
Thanks man! Really appreciate it 😊🙏 yeah, you’re right - the later era GL playing definitely influenced my playing more so then the Dokken era playing. Still love that playing though 😊 enjoy and have an amazing day!
Thanks so much man! Much much appreciated 😊 Yep - they are just the right amount of hot - and they sound amazing backed off as well 😊 Great balance in these pickups. Here are some more clips you can check out - ua-cam.com/video/yOKFjUQ-fNY/v-deo.html - enjoy and have an amazing day!!! 😊
@@jayguitar i think we want more alnico II or III to sound warm for the neck pickup so not like the bb pro but in my opinion the DA pickups would be better
Jay no matter what you play you always you sound great man ! But I heard Seymour Duncan just came out with another George Lynch signature pickup called " The Hunter ". I was wondering if you tried it yet, and if you have how does it compare with the Doug Aldrich pup and the Mr. Scary pickup ?
Thanks so much Matt! Thats much appreciated man! 😊 🙏 Oh yeah they released that last year - kinda rebranded more then anything. It used to be a custom shop model that used to be referred to as the Dokken'bucker that could be ordered via their custom shop (MJ used to make them). Its a good pickup, not my thing as it has a ceramic magnet, but great sound, very Dokken era tone 😊 I much prefer the DA and Scary pickups for my personal sound. DA is probably my current favourite - warmer and rounder which I really love 😊 Hope that helps! Have an amazing day!!!
Hey dude 😊 Great Q! They are differently voiced for sure - the BKP has more of a mid range hump - the Aldrich is more balanced I think. The Aldrich works better for me personally but both great pickups - similar amount of punch and power, just different sounds 😊 Thanks so much man! Have an amazing day 😊
DA pickups are so awesome 😊 Love playing them! You know, I'm not sure if the guitars are available right now - I checked the Keipro Guitarworks website and it says its under construction. Its an awesome guitar - love it! Its one of my 'go-to' instruments 😊 Have an amazing day!
Yep - they are very very cool indeed! I am loving them 😊 great pickups - really cool vibe and feel fantastic to play 🙏 thanks and have an awesome day John!
Hi Thoras, Thank you so much man! 😊 Much much appreciated! Yep, neck pickup is an Aldrich as well 😊 Love the tones from these pickups!!! 😃 Have an amazing day dude 😊
Thanks man!!! Much appreciated! Should work great on that combination! 😊 I love using swamp ash for my guitar builds - that combination should give a pretty punchy tone 😊 enjoy and have an amazing day!
Thanks Jay. Im sure you are familiar with the Duncan JB. How would the Aldrich model compare tonally in the same ash strat? Really enjoy listening to your original playing also!
Seems this is only a demo of the Suhr Aldrich Bridge Pickup... I never see your pickup selector switch move off of the bridge position. did you do a demo of the Aldrich neck pickup somewhere else perhaps...?
Hey Glenn, used the neck pickup for the clean rhythm part on the track. I rarely use neck pickups for leads - much prefer the bridge pickup - anyways, enjoy and have a great day.
Hey Sebastian! No, just a touch of compression to even out the clean tone - most of it is just how the pickup is reacting to my gear. I can't recall if I used a software compressor or hardware compressor, either way it would have just been a moderate amount 😊 Hope that helps and have an amazing day man!
Lol dude! You’re like a kid in a candy shop but I don’t blame you I got the modern candy apple drip with HH Aldrich’s i’m 55 and it’s the best guitar I’ve ever played with the best sound God bless John Suhr! Oh and I really enjoyed your video rock on dude!
Hey Barry, I haven’t used Screaming Demons for many years now my friend 😊 I have them on a couple of my guitars (mainly my GL Guitars) but usually I don’t play them. They are great pickups but I like a lot of others more so - the Suhr pickups, yep right now I would choose them over screaming demons for sure. I love the tone, response and feel 😊 enjoy and have an amazing day man!
Hey Jay which is the best pick up arrangement when using the EMG 61 silver and EMG 65 gold n my les Paul ,currently I have the gold in the bridge position ? Thanks brother!
Hi Dana, no idea about EMGs my friend - I have one in my Ran guitar which was given to me (I think its an 81) - I'm afraid I have very little experience with EMGs 😊 Have an amazing day man!
Hey Dana 😊 I don't use either - never have 😊 I have an all analogue chain - on the first clip it was a Friedman BE-OD pedal > BluGuitar AMP1 Clean channel > direct out into my audio interface > Impulse Response Cabs. Second and third clips same set up but I used a RedStuff 1987 pedal 😊 So no tricks involved. You can check out my full signal chain on this video - ua-cam.com/video/Bf7datORaqs/v-deo.html - Enjoy and have an amazing day!
Good playing man. I think the Aldrich pickups are nice too. That Keipro is a killer guitar. Cool vid. If I have any thoughts about your playing, it feels as though maybe, maybe, you’re rushing; at times just in front of the beat, so your phrasings end slightly early; but maybe not, maybe my ears suck today 😂 Regardless, you’re a killer player 🤘🏻
Thanks man! I appreciate it. Yes, you're right - I am rushing. I reviewed this song a few weeks ago and realised that I could have been much tighter to the beat and inside the pocket of the song 😊 Anyways, good learning experience. Have an awesome day.
I currently have 498T in the bridge of my Lp (I assume similar to a slightly under wound JB)....have you compared them to a JB ? I assume they’re close...?
Hey dude, very cool 😊 I haven’t compared them - I know the JB has a mid bump, the DA has a more every response so I’d say it’s different. The JB I would compare to the Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell - that has that same mid bump thing going on 😊 have an amazing day!
@@jayguitar Thank you for the response! What about the A8 magnet in 13s, does it feel similar to A5? I am hesitant about that magnet, afraid that it will turn out something similar to Ceramic.
@@mertmermerci218 that’s a really interesting question! And one I have experience with. Think of the A8 as a cross between the A5 and a ceramic. It has the warmth of the A5 but the extra bite and punch of the ceramic. I really like the sound of the A8 magnet.
@@jayguitar final question, which one would you prefer, aldrich or 13 in a LP? My hesitations are aldrich being very overwounded and hot with 17.5k and the feel of Alnico 8 in 13s. That is why I am also considering the Triple Clone from Arcane with 10k resistance and A5. Do you have any further suggestions? Thank you for the support.
@@mertmermerci218 I have an Arcane 13 in my Chibson and it sounds really good on that guitar - granted it isn’t a real Gibson but relatively close. I did a video a month or so back on which you can hear it - and one last year where I speak about the while Chibson experience (spoiler alert - there were some major regrets!) so you can check out those tones. It works well. The Aldrich is tested and proven in LPs - Doug plays LPs 😊🙏🏽 in fact I saw the Dead Daisies last night and Doug’s guitar sounded amazing as always. The overwind compresses the sound a little more but it is a pleasure to play. Alternatives - I am a huge fan of the Pariah pickups. I love the work that Sean does - his pickups always make me smile when I play them so they are worth checking out too. His Pasadena Black is probably my all time favourite pickup (Alnico 2 Van Halen style pickup). He used to do one called the Skere as well which was a take on the Arcane 13. I preferred the Pariah as it had more bottom end definition. A lower resistance pickup will give you a more open sound if that’s what you’re after, and this can make the pickup brighter sounding too. I have a set of the Suhr Thornbucker are they sounds amazing. I have them in a superstrat but it is maple on mahogany so pretty much LP spec and they sound incredible (bridge is a Thornbucker+). They are lower resistance so much closer in sound to the old PAFs people like Page used back in the 70s. I have a comparison video of the Aldrich vs the Thornbucker on my channel somewhere as well so you can check that out too. Here is one of the Chibson videos - ua-cam.com/video/0P_Ypieh_HY/v-deo.html - and the other one too ua-cam.com/video/VT1PJmy3R-w/v-deo.html. Hope that helps!
Thanks so much Dana! 🙏😊 I really appreciate that! Production is a big part of my work and a pleasure to share that - when a mix sounds good it’s a pleasure to listen to and conveys the sound mood and emotion. Really glad you enjoy that aspect! Have an amazing day 😊🙏
Thats a great Q - I think they would work well as they have quite a tight response, but there are pickups that are more suited to dropped tuning imo :) Hope that helps. Have an awesome day!
Hey dude, great Q 😊 Just differently voiced - quality wise, they are both on par with each other - very high quality. Voicing wise, I prefer the Suhr pickups - they just work for me tonally. But BKPs are awesome too - I have several of those 😊 Have an amazing day man!
@@jayguitar Cool, thanks for the reply. I wonder how the DA pickups will work on VOS LPS? Your video on DA vs Thornbuckers was great as well, those Thornbuckers sounded amazing, different from the DA's.
They should work pretty good - yeah the Thornbuckers are excellent too! More of a vintage vibe. The DA is my favours pickup right now - feels and sounds so balanced.
Hey Jay I just got a set and was just curious…does it matter when the ohms meter measures the DC resistance at like 8.6 instead of 9? Is that an issue? Or do they just round up when it’s over 8.5dc?
Hey dude, no that won't make too much difference. If the DC were lets say 3 or 4k out them that would be an issue, but 0.5k won't make a difference. The DC generally is an indication of the voicing of the pickup - the lower the DC, the more open and less compressed. Often it is used as an indicator or how 'hot' the pickup is too. Hope that helps. Have an amazing day!
Me and my 14 year old son love you!! How hot are these pups in comparison to a DiMarzio Super Distortion? I love mids, does this have a good amount of them? DiMarzio rates theirs at 425 output where Suhr uses 17.5 k. Are you still using these pups? Thank you!!
Hey Tony, ah thanks man! Thats much much appreciated 😊 🤘 🙏 The pickup is pretty hot - 17.5k refers more to the resistance of the pickup - its often used as a rough guide to how hot a pickup is. For an exact output you'd need the reading in Henris - which I don't have for either pickup I'm afraid 🙏 The Super Distortion has a DC resistance of around 13.8k but I know from people who have used it that its pretty hot so I imagine in terms of output they are probably similar, maybe the Aldrich being a little hotter. Yes still use them - one of my absolute favourite pickups! They are really stunning sounding pickups, especially in my Keipro Guitar 😊 Hope that helps! Have an amazing day!!!
Hey dude, that’s a guitar that I put together myself 😊 you can find out all about it on this video - ESP Spirit Dance: ua-cam.com/video/gyojP4ZnraI/v-deo.html - enjoy and have an amazing for day!
Easy one for me! Pasadena Black! 😃 I love both pickups - but the Pasadena has this bite, growl and low note definition which I just adore! Makes me smile every time i play it. In fact, it would be either the Pasadena or the Patina (which I have in my Spirit Dance now). Nota taking anything away from the DA pickup, still love it 😊 🙏 Have an awesome day!
ah very cool! you’re a Pariah disciple also 😊 yes the Patina is the Jake E Lee inspired pickup that Sean at Pariah makes. similar to the Pasadena Black but a little more compression - same snarly bite and smooth overtones though. Totally love it!
Hey dude, yep they split really well 😊 The clean tone was the neck pickup coil split. There are isolated tracks at the end of the video where you can check out the clean split tone by itself 😊 Enjoy and have an amazing day!
You know, I have been meaning to try some more Iron Gear pickups - the one I installed on my Harley Benton are pretty amazing! 😊 I love these pickups too though 😊 Have an amazing day dude and thanks so much!
Hi Eric, you’re absolutely right man 😊🙏 the title was a little tongue in cheek - hence the question marks and ‘Probably’ at the end - for me they are the perfect pickup right now but totally understand that pickups, like guitars, amps, effects, are a very personal thing. Anyways, thanks man and have an amazing day!!! 😊
Thanks so much Bryan! 😊 🙏 I am enjoying branching out and doing my own thing 😊 Having a blast writing music this way as its taking me in very cool directions which I am really liking. Have an amazing day man!
If you love these, try out the Duncan Custom SH-5. They have the same vibe as the Suhr's but have a fatter/warmer sound...
Oh cool man! I will check them out 😊 Have an awesome day and thank for the head up 🙏
Thanks Jay for the kind words of incouragement, they mean so much, coming from you! Have a Blessed day! Thanks for the Sub my friend ! Again it means a tremendous amount to me! 👉🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Jay Parmar I tried sending you a track called "The Axe Grinder" ✌🏻 peace
Awesome happy holidays
Doug Aldrich is one of my favorite guitarists, and that tone comes out from his Les Paul!!! OMG!! It's amazing!
Very cool Jimmy! Agreed - he is awesome! Love his playing and sound and style. He oozes style 😊🤘 have an amazing day man!
Anything with Doug Aldrich's name on it... it's going to be awesome.
Agreed!!!!!! 😊😊😊 Doug is awesome 😊 have an amazing day!
I put these into my McCarty, and it's literally now a Flame-Thrower, and my new #1.
I have a set of them in one of my Les Paul and LOVE THEM ! They won't be going anywhere ...
Aw2esome man! 😃 I gotta get myself another set - I really love the tone! Just works for me - very balanced imo. Have an amazing day man!!!
Great insight and demo.
Doug and his wife Danni are dear friends as well.
All my humbuckers are Doug's Suhr pickups!
Gibson PU's out.
Thanks so much man! 😊 🙏 Oh very very cool about the friendship man! I really dg the DA pickups. I'm finding that its the guitar with those pickups that i'm gravitating to right now. Balance is just right 😊 Thanks and have an amazing day!!!
Oh my goodness Jay those are some seriously epic tones
Thanks so much man! Yep - they sound really incredible. Feel beautiful to play as well 😊 Enjoy and have an amazing day!
I have one in the bridge of my lynch skulls n snakes. As high output as the Aldrich is, it's got a vintage type of tone.
Im.now making the switch from.emg active pickups to Shur Doug Aldridge pickups,in my Les paul custom guitar.Great videos!
Hi Jay, i finally put my Suhr Aldrich pickups in my Les Paul and done a short comparison video on my channel between them and my Burstbucker Pro's.
Oh very very cool Mark! I will check out that video! What were your thoughts? Have an awesome day man!!!
We have here in Germany the Häussel PU manufactory. The PAF 59 of Häussel also sound magnificent. The best one I ever played.
Best Pickup I ever installed in my Strat , it replaced my 1980's Dimarzio Distortion , you just confirmed my thoughts.
Oh man I need a set of these to replace my 57’ classics in my LP. Great vid and tones!! How about a Randy Rhoads video? Maybe some of his licks? Thanks again :)
You’re most welcome! They are awesome pickups! Really loving the tone!!! 😊😊😊 have an amazing day dude!
Wow. Interesting to see them not in a Les Paul. Sound great too! Might fit them into one of my Strat style guitars.
For me the best Pickups for a Les Paul. I play them for years.
Awesome man! 😊 I can imagine in an LP they sound amazing! Thanks and have an amazing day!!!
Markusaldrich yep same here.
Excellent pickups. But I still prefer JBs, Customs and Screamin' Demons.
Awesome demo!! How do you think the Adrich bridge would work in a Strat?
Thanks man!
LEIF HOFFMAN Why would you want to hide the Lynch, Lynch is awesome!!!
I agree with you 100%! Jay has got George Lynch down to an art! I was just kidding around with him (because we know each other) about I can always hear Lynch in his playing. He's recorded with George Lynch! He is friends with him. He spoke with him at NAMM this year.
Thanks so much Leif! Really appreciate it man! 😊 Gotta love that GL vibe 😃 Have an amazing day dude!!! 🤘 🤘 🤘
I ended up having some
issues with my left hand maybe 10 years ago and couldn't shred anymore and became very fussy about which neck profiles didn't bother my hand and ended up selling the guitar and changing around my style to what I could play.
Hey John, yeah they are awesome. Still love playing teh DA set 😊 Have an awesome day!
Awesome video Jay + Awesome Playing and Awesome Sounding Pickups, every note is well defined !!! 👍👍😀😀😀💕💕💕
Thanks man! Much much appreciated Josh 😊 Yeah the pickups are so awesome! I am loving the vibe that Suhr have come up with 😊 These are a fave right now! Have an amazing day man!!! 😃
@@jayguitar BTW, what strings are you using ?
Hey Josh, I use 9-46 😊
Omg they sound amazing in your hands!! both clean and otherwise :)
Thanks so much man!± Really appreciate it 😊 Love these pickups!!! Have an amazing day Abhinav 😊
You rock
Had one of these, they're comparable to the PAF 36th anniversary Dimarzio
Oh very cool! I was looking at some Dimarzios and the 36th Anniversary did come up 😊 Thanks man and have an amazing day!
Those dimarzios are around 8.5 ohm reading & these Suhr are over 16.....they sound similar ??
Thanks that was very useful, you’re a real pro
Thanks man! Thats very kind of you and you're welcome for the video 😊 Glad you enjoyed it! Have an amazing day!
Awesome sounds! Your guitar 🎸 spits 🔥! 🤟
Thanks so much!!! 🙏 really appreciate it 😊 Yep it does with these pickups and the Friedman or RedStuff pedals 😃 Love the tones! Have an amazing day!!!
Excellent man! Great about the video! Please do let me know when you do it, I would love to check it out 😊 🙏
Will do Jay!
Are you always so happy? thanks for making these great videos!
Great playing Bro :) Have you tried any of the Bareknuckle range?
Thanks so much man!!! Much appreciated 😊 🙏 Yep, I have a couple of BKPs in my guitars (Rebel Yell, Nailbomb and Blackhawk - had an aftermath as well which I sold, which actually likes in one of Rabea Massad's guitars now 😊) - I still have an endorsement with them as well! 😊 Great pickups - beautiful tones! Have an amazing day!
awesome playing superb tone
Thanks so much man! Much much appreciated 😊 Have an amazing day!!!
Great tone like always Jay...love it !
Thank you so much Stefan! Much much appreciated my friend!!! Some of the tones courtesy of your RedStuff 1987 which is just exquisite 🙏 Have an amazing day my friend!!!
I've seen and heard it , thank you so much! Have a great day too !
i can't find this style of guitar anywhere can someone send me a link i would love to buy one..thanks
Sounds awesome! Great playing as well! What are you playing through? A mic'd amp? Axe FX? Kemper?
Thanks so much man!!! Much much appreciated 😊 I play through a Friedman BE-OD pedal and BluGuitar AMP1 - This is my full set up - still using pretty much the same - sometimes I use different IR cabs - ua-cam.com/video/Bf7datORaqs/v-deo.html - Hope that helps. Enjoy and have an amazing day!!!
Nice review! And I hear many good licks to learn :D
Thanks so much man! Much appreciated 😊 I will be doing a lesson on these licks at some point so stay tuned 😉 Have an amazing day!!!
Good to know JP! Subscribed!!!
*Talk about that BLUGUITAR AMP 1*
@@jayguitar Thank Jay amazing man
Nice playing, you got more of a modern George Lynch style going on. I like it, my style is more like his older style a little.
Thanks man! Really appreciate it 😊🙏 yeah, you’re right - the later era GL playing definitely influenced my playing more so then the Dokken era playing. Still love that playing though 😊 enjoy and have an amazing day!
Great playing. Love Doug Aldrich and his playing. Are they really hot?
Thanks so much man! Much much appreciated 😊 Yep - they are just the right amount of hot - and they sound amazing backed off as well 😊 Great balance in these pickups. Here are some more clips you can check out - ua-cam.com/video/yOKFjUQ-fNY/v-deo.html - enjoy and have an amazing day!!! 😊
DA pickups have alnico 5 for the neck pickup too like bb pro
Yep I believe that the neck pickup is A5 too 😊 Great sounding pickups! Have an amazing day 😊
@@jayguitar i think we want more alnico II or III to sound warm for the neck pickup so not
like the bb pro
but in my opinion the DA pickups would be better
Hi Jay! Have you compared this pickup with Bare Knuckle's Rebel Yell pickups? Both high output using Alnico V magnets.
Awesome videos btw. Cheers! 😎👌
Have an amazing day 😊
@@jayguitar cheers! Thanks for the reply. Will try them both. 🤘
Love those pickups , there definetly going in my Kiesel custom guitar. And how do you purchase that guitar your playing .
Hell man, these sound so great!!
Yep - they are very very cool indeed! I am loving them 😊 great pickups - really cool vibe and feel fantastic to play 🙏 thanks and have an awesome day John!
What a one of a Kind.. of an Intro, Killer Play n sound👍👍👍👍woow
Thanks! Much appreciated 😊 Have an awesome day!
Hello Jay, awesome tone ! Is the neck pickup a suhr dough aldrich too ?
Hi Thoras, Thank you so much man! 😊 Much much appreciated! Yep, neck pickup is an Aldrich as well 😊 Love the tones from these pickups!!! 😃 Have an amazing day dude 😊
What about the pearly gates Pu
Hi Rez, Really great sounding pickup 😊 I prefer the tone of the Suhr personally but love Seymour Duncans as well 😊 Have an amazing day man!!!
Jay, great tone and playing. Thoughts on this pup in a Swamp Ash Floyd Rose strat with ebony fretboard?
Thanks man!!! Much appreciated! Should work great on that combination! 😊 I love using swamp ash for my guitar builds - that combination should give a pretty punchy tone 😊 enjoy and have an amazing day!
Thanks Jay. Im sure you are familiar with the Duncan JB. How would the Aldrich model compare tonally in the same ash strat? Really enjoy listening to your original playing also!
i have x2n in strat amd trembucker in g&l
Very cool man! 😊 thanks and have an amazing day!!!
Sounds great.
Thanks so much Robert! 😊 Have an awesome day man!!!
Great sound!
Thanks dude 😊 Glad you enjoyed it! Have an amazing day 😊
13:25ish, the percussive neck pickup... is there a lot of compressor on that sound?
Hey Sebastian! No, just a touch of compression to even out the clean tone - most of it is just how the pickup is reacting to my gear. I can't recall if I used a software compressor or hardware compressor, either way it would have just been a moderate amount 😊 Hope that helps and have an amazing day man!
@@jayguitar thanks!
Sounds great 👍
Thank dude 😊 Glad you enjoyed it! Have an amazing day! 🤟🏼
Lol dude! You’re like a kid in a candy shop but I don’t blame you I got the modern candy apple drip with HH Aldrich’s i’m 55 and it’s the best guitar I’ve ever played with the best sound God bless John Suhr! Oh and I really enjoyed your video rock on dude!
Yep! Love what I do dude 😃 Always makes me smile. Have an awesome day!
the sound is nice, but the Doug Aldrich sustain seems to be missing for me? is it the guitar?
Hi Chris, glad you liked the sound 😊 Plenty of sustain - I don't find that it lacks it 😊 Enjoy and have an amazing day man!
Excellent video man but would you give up the screaming demons for them ???
What do they sound like with out the Axe fx turned on? Yeah we know all the tricks, or are you using KEMPER ?
I like the jb but the da creates a different playing style ....da is above slightly
@@jayguitar Ey! Do you prefer the rebell yell or the aldrich Jay. Thanks in advance.
Great video! How do you compare them with Arcane 13 and which one would you suggest?
Thats a great Q - they are just different. The Arcane has a little more bite. Both have good tone. Have an awesome day!
Your not only a great guitarist, your a sound engineer also. The best of both. 🎩

🤘🏻
Thanks so much Dana! 🙏😊 I really appreciate that! Production is a big part of my work and a pleasure to share that - when a mix sounds good it’s a pleasure to listen to and conveys the sound mood and emotion. Really glad you enjoy that aspect! Have an amazing day 😊🙏
May God Bless you and yours today and everyday forward. Peace ✌🏻 Dana E💫
Do you still Rock this pickup 2 years later or has something new caught ur ear???? Ur playing is Excellent 🤙🇺🇸🙏
Hey Stephen, yes still using them - I have them in the same guitar and still dig the tones 😊Thanks man! I appreciate it! Have an awesome day!
Do you think it suits with drop tunings?
Thats a great Q - I think they would work well as they have quite a tight response, but there are pickups that are more suited to dropped tuning imo :) Hope that helps. Have an awesome day!
@@jayguitar Yeah thanks a lot man! :)
Hey Jay, i wonder how these DA pickups fair against the Bare Knuckles?
The DA is my favours pickup right now - feels and sounds so balanced.
sounds damn great
Thanks Chris 😊 Glad you enjoyed it! Its a great pickup 😊 Have an amazing day!
Coil split?
I cant play like he does but they sound sweety
Can vary by temperature. And your meter. 8.6 is close enough to 9 to not worry about.
Me and my 14 year old son love you!! How hot are these pups in comparison to a DiMarzio Super Distortion? I love mids, does this have a good amount of them? DiMarzio rates theirs at 425 output where Suhr uses 17.5 k. Are you still using these pups? Thank you!!
Are these 50 or 53 mm spacing? Thanks Sorry for all the pesky questions but I value your opinion we have the same taste
Good Q! I have both in 50mm - I like using a 50 in bridge, I think they sound a touch warmer then 53 - just my personal opinion though 🙏
Jay Parmar Thank you so very much for answering all of my questions!!!
@@tonymarinelli7304 You're most welcome Tony 😊
10:29 what guitar is this?
Hey dude, that’s a guitar that I put together myself 😊 you can find out all about it on this video - ESP Spirit Dance: ua-cam.com/video/gyojP4ZnraI/v-deo.html - enjoy and have an amazing for day!
I see,this is Your FrankESPstein? :d
Lol! That's a great name for it 😃 yep absolutely is 🤟🏼
this vs Pariah Pasadena Black. Which one is your absolute favourite? an why?
Easy one for me! Pasadena Black! 😃 I love both pickups - but the Pasadena has this bite, growl and low note definition which I just adore! Makes me smile every time i play it. In fact, it would be either the Pasadena or the Patina (which I have in my Spirit Dance now). Nota taking anything away from the DA pickup, still love it 😊 🙏 Have an awesome day!
@@jayguitar that is what i feel with the Pasadena Black! really cool sounding pickups. what is the Patina? pariah brand? never heard of it
ah very cool! you’re a Pariah disciple also 😊 yes the Patina is the Jake E Lee inspired pickup that Sean at Pariah makes. similar to the Pasadena Black but a little more compression - same snarly bite and smooth overtones though. Totally love it!
Do you have these split by chance?
Hey dude, yep they split really well 😊 The clean tone was the neck pickup coil split. There are isolated tracks at the end of the video where you can check out the clean split tone by itself 😊 Enjoy and have an amazing day!
Dunno, I'd say IronGear are better duo to their price alone :D
You know, I have been meaning to try some more Iron Gear pickups - the one I installed on my Harley Benton are pretty amazing! 😊 I love these pickups too though 😊 Have an amazing day dude and thanks so much!
Dem have balls!
😃😃😃🤘🤘🤘 yes they do! Thanks and have an awesome day man!!!
Well, it's all a matter of taste isn"t it? How can some product be "the best" if everyone have their own style and wishes?
Hi Eric, you’re absolutely right man 😊🙏 the title was a little tongue in cheek - hence the question marks and ‘Probably’ at the end - for me they are the perfect pickup right now but totally understand that pickups, like guitars, amps, effects, are a very personal thing. Anyways, thanks man and have an amazing day!!! 😊
Are those 10s?
Hey dude, the string gauge I’m guessing? I use 9-46 😊 I hope that helps. Have an awesome day!
Love your playing when you’re not being GL.
Thanks so much Bryan! 😊 🙏 I am enjoying branching out and doing my own thing 😊 Having a blast writing music this way as its taking me in very cool directions which I am really liking. Have an amazing day man!
