Statistically it always makes more sense to go with steal no matter how much you trust the other person. In the end of the day you only need to focus on convincing the other person to split. If the other person splits, you walk away with money either way and it’s better to go steal as you get more money. If the other person goes steal, you get no money either way and frankly I’d rather that person not walk away with the whole jackpot. Never go split.

Guy A also promises Guy B that after he steal the sum, he would split the money after the show to Guy B to push him to pick split.
Since Guy B wants to at least have the chance to get the money, he chose split. This would be in Guy A's favour since outright splitting would give Guy B a chance to steal like in this video.
And of course, Guy A actually picks splits and this would lead this game into a guaranteed split
It's a game show and your opponent is a total stranger. It's not a crime to win. It's actually a game of skill. You have to steal but also convince the opponent to split. Both sides know what they are signing up for.when they agree to go on the show. It's like a game of Poker. that said, I do love it when two decent people both split. It's lovely. I just don't approve of the opprobrium aimed at anyone who wins as though they have done something wrong. They're contestants, not muggers!

With the way he was talking he just shouldn't have been trusted.
Statistically it always makes more sense to go with steal no matter how much you trust the other person. In the end of the day you only need to focus on convincing the other person to split. If the other person splits, you walk away with money either way and it’s better to go steal as you get more money. If the other person goes steal, you get no money either way and frankly I’d rather that person not walk away with the whole jackpot. Never go split.
