- In this video my American and Puerto Rican friends react to Eurovision Song Contest. In each episode we will skip Back and Forth in the History of Eurovision to watch some of the more interesting entries that the countries had to offer!!!

Carola still uses the wind machine in her performances to this day.
This was the first time a wind machine was ever used at ESC. My favorite Swedish winner. Glad you did it. The best way to describe this is as "schlager music".
When she won and made the winning performance she shocked the audience with the English version “Captured by a lovestorm”
Fun fact: In the Swedish competition you can clearly see the two dancers doing a leapfrog move where one dancer jumped over the other. This move was considered too indecent by the more conservative countries in Europe and could not be broadcast. I believe they still do the move on stage but the cameras zoom in real close on Carola as they do. If you happen to catch a clip from the Swedish "Melodifestivalen" in -91 you should be able to see the entire dance rutine.
Johanna Lindkvist the leapfrog is done when she sings "fri men endå bunden til en uppet famn" in the Melodifestivalen, in E.S.C they do a split jump.
Great reaction, it´s so fun to watch their reactions to different entries from different countries. Hope they get to watch Carola´s earlier and later performance as well. Winning Melodifestivalen three timeas and being 3rd, 1st and 5th in Eurovision is quite and accomplicement. In Sweden, the fan, or wind machine or whatever, is often called "Carola-fläkt" which means Carola fan. It was a joke in one skit where it was so strong that it blew her off stage, literally cought my the storm wind. During this perfomance her fan actually had some loudspeakers in the arena to shut off for a while in the second verse, because of a fuse, a power failure, the fan took to much electricity.
The dancer´s names are Dan Malmer and Christian Larsson. Stephan Berg, who wrote "Fångad av en stormvind" also wrote Sweden´s entry in 1997 "Bara hon älskar mig" ("If only she loves me") with Blond. (A entry that I really dislike btw, it´s so extremely cheesy.).
I was ten years old back then and for me it was (and still is) by far the best song that year

Yea, maybe the single song reactions might work better for the channel views (and for anyone to browse through easily to the one they might want to watch again) so I understand it. But I suggest @alexandrumic that he posts them more often, it is very little content, we caaaan't wait for the next :/ and maybe even in a combined video in the end, all of them together :)

The contest took place in the famous Cinecitta Filmstudios, hence the interesting stage with Roman probs from movies in the background

It was going to be in San Remo, but because of the tensions in Yugoslavia and the Gulf War they decided to translate to Roma without many time.

As ^they said, it was supposed to be held in Sanremo but because of all the rising tension in Yugoslavia and the Gulf War they decided to move it to Roma, and at that point only a handful of weeks was left to organze the contest, that's why it's so noticeably not nearly enough rehearsed :"
So glad you talked about the dancers in the end, they are soo cool, I remember watching it as a tiny child, I was four and it was the year I started dance class!
Oh, and, no, pretty sure the suits arn't streachy. That's just very good construction. Waist at the actuall waist, high crotch(there's no high kicks or splits with a low crotch) and enough room both in the back of the jacket and in the pants for all that movement. Streachy just wouldn't look right for this. Carola is in some streachy tights though..

This song really is a bop still! As you wrote, the song title means Captured by a Whirlwind. And it´s about being in a stormy relationship and being so in love with that other person. The refrain translate into "I am captured by a whirlwind, stuck for you. Nothing will stop me, when it blows in my heart. I am captured by a whirlwind, day and night. Here is only you and me, and the light that the heaven left behind." Oh, and your friend from Puerto Rico had a perfect pronunciation of Carola´s name. :D
They should watch the riverdance interval from I think 1994. That was the best thing Eurovision ever done.

Fun fact: I read that Sweden (my country yay) got the same amount of points as France but since they can't have two winners they looked to see who got the most 12 points but both of the countries got the same amount as well so instead they looked for the most 10 points which then Sweden got the most of and that is how we won in 1991. I can't even imagine how heartbreaking that must have been for France hahah. France basically lost only because they were tied to Sweden. I love it when we end up in a battle of other countries in Eurovision and end up winning lol.
The sound from he orchestra was messed up for this live performance, so you can barley hear the melody, but she still won...

No Amina... OK 2015 now, Sweden and Russia seem too vanilla to me for a ESC Best Of, so Italy ? Belgium and Latvia are also option if you want something more modern sounding, and Norway and Estonia for the 2 emotionnal duos.
Aww you were one, I was 13 song was and still is totally up my street. Glad it won over the French song didn't really like that one. I remember the voting was so close and so exciting. X
The exactly English title of the song as she sang it at the reprise was i was capture by a lovestorm
Since this song ended up in first place with the same amount of points as the French entry maybe it would be nice in a next season to react to Amina and C'est le Dernier qui a parle.

Sorry but for me the only real winner of Eurovision 1991 is France with Amina. His victory was stolen from him. It should have been first too because this regulation of the number of 12 points and 10 points is ridiculous. You finish the contest with the same number of points both are first.
I strongly disagree, and also - Amina was, and still is, a woman!

Love the dancers, like the song and Carola's older stuff, but I don't like her as an artist after ca 1995 and even less as a person (based on her statements about LBTQ+ etc)
1991 the real winner nr2 France way better
I believe Carola is quite religious and fairly critical of the LGBT rights movement in Sweden, even in Eurovision. She's got a great career but it kind of tarnishes my opinion of her just a little bit.
