Here's a test for those with excellent hearing and those with crappy hearing. Place a live band in a room each spaced about 3ft. apart. Guitar, Bass , Piano and Drummer. Blindfold the participants and ask them where each instrument in the room is. Then play a song on the best speakers you can find and ask them is this a live band or a recording? Almost all will fail the first test and everyone will be able to differentiated between live and recorded in about 2 seconds no matter how expensive the cables are.

Thank you. I was looking for the words that could gracefully explain to the average listener that just because they couldn't hear the difference doesn't mean that I can't either. Quality cables belong to those ears that deserve them and as such deserve to be elevated. However, I personally find tinker toys to be crude and childish . Instead, I would recommend the drs-hifi audio, crystal, shock suppression cable risers. This is the key to sublime, holographic audio.

I would like to know if this person has had any recent hearing checks? How can we validate that he can accurately hear in the first place to know he can hear any difference? (I also feel this should be a yearly requirement for anyone that reviews audio also).
I have demonstrated multiple times cables make no difference, the uber expensive ones I used to run at home are nothing but some branded coax cable, and no one can tell the difference between them and the replacements i made from Amazon basics cable...
My multiple championship winning sound quality car audio setup ran 20 year old stock speaker cables just to prove a point (Also had a competitor blame the flat AA batteries in his RCA's to why he didn't beat me at a comp)

Everyone knows you need a species emitting a low hydrocarbon footprint (i.e. spruce or white oak) thereby achieving the best fidelity, warmth and impactful sound stage. Top tip, hanging any >$2500 cable suspended by the tinker toy cable trough from the ceiling gives improved headroom rendering superb imaging to overall listening experience.

Cables do make a difference. Single ended audio (rca connectors) need coax cables. Most high end cables are not coax and will impact the music; negatively. Boosting some frequencies and cutting others. But the cheap crappy coax have no impact unless you hear above 15MHz.
Cable elevation. Changes the radiation pattern of cable, which can direct the beam pattern of radiating noise in different directions. Correct height is 1500 feet off the ground.

Peter Aczel ended it for me maybe 20 years ago. "The biggest lies in audio". At the time, the $$$$ Kimber for example, cost them $9.00 per foot to make. The astronomical markup was pure sucker bait. I took some expensive cables and put them on a comm test bench. I found 5 things. 1. Signal was intact at output. 2. Signal was rolled off at output 3. Signal was not intact at output. ( cable issue) 4. High capacitance and inductance. 5. There was never a "boost" in anything because wire has no gain.
Danny Ritchie is doing it all wrong. Cable risers need to be made of African Macassar ebony, and blessed by Druids during the equinox, and carved by a master Italian luthier in ceremonial garb. Short of that, use some of those glass utility pole insulators.
This is where I say "YMMV" because it's a catch-all and absolves me of any responsibility to the truth. I'm going to try different wines to see what I get. I liked the Cavit pinot grigio , and want to try the Reisling.

Cables do make a difference. You would not take the cable that connects your 40w bedside lamp to the wall socket and use it to connect your 1500w heater to the mains outlet, would you. On the other hand. You could take the cable that connects your 1500w heater to the wall socket and use it to connect your 40w bedside lamp to the mains outlet. It would however not make any difference to the performance of your 40w lamp, because the bedside lamps stock cable was more than adequate.
All that having been said. I did recently purchase a 5 feet cable from my local hi-fi store, which was reduced from $3500 to $500. I used it to connect my Miele 1800 spin speed washing machine to the mains outlet. I was stunned. My washing machine now reached its maximum spin speed much more quickly. At full speed the machine was a lot smoother and quieter and no longer danced around my utility room. Though I attribute that to the cables tethering properties, not its electrical properties.
The caveat, because there is always a caveat. My teenage daughter used to derive great pleasure from sitting astride that machine when it reached full speed. That damned ultra high end cable has denied her that basic, primal pleasure.

Yes, he's a politician trying to straddle the issue. Why? Our friend Danny primed him to do this by putting him up at Danny's house, asking him if he's a car guy (allegedly first words out of Danny's mouth) and taking him to the drag races, introducing him to the family and being kind to him in general. A smart man engaging a critic will go to work trying to turn that person into a friend before getting down to business. It will ALWAYS soften the criticism.
Regarding cable risers, just as it's critical to have them, the materials they're made of are of equal importance. Tinker toys are the preferred method for getting optimum effect.
Regarding the statement, 'they don't hear it so there is no way you can hear it'. I have to agree, the placebo affect whether in applications of medicine , sound, or taste are subjective. Placebo will work on one person, but not on another, but regardless the effect cannot simply be dismissed off hand. The human brain (not the actual science of the sound) is complex and belief will appear to make things real for a person. The trap that we should not fall into is mistaking the placebo affecting our perception something that can be proven scientifically with the object being observed, or felt.
Regarding guitar cables, there is a distinct difference between the quality of sound between a very cheap guitar cable and one of reasonable quality due to how minute the signal is leaving the guitar and thus susceptible to picking up noise (usually power line frequency) and interelectrode capacitance (rolling off the high frequencies) and cable inductive reactance (rolling off the low frequencies) This is all very real measurable science and can be heard sometimes if a cable is dramaitcally bad but it should be noted that at audio frequencies the latter two effects on the signal is quite negligible. If it applies in the world of hifi it would only really apply to RCA interconnects as well as the circuit design of the equipment in connection. It would not really have anything to do with power or speaker cables as well as digital signal interconnects.
I don't agree that our ears are more sensitive than equipment. The frequency sweeping graphs that have the x axis as frequency , and the y axis as db level would have to show a fairly dramatic difference in order for the human ear to perceive the difference, especially in a dynamic setting like music that provides lots of different frequencies at once. I would challenge anyone to show these charts where they could get variations due to power cable changes or speaker cable changes.. the only changes I've ever seen regarding speaker cables were graphed up to 100kc where the Z of the cable came into play.. Far above the audio range. They all show a flat line up to 20kc which screams snake oil. If I can't show you a relevant chart I'll create an irrelevant chart instead.
Comparing wine tasting to hearing is a red herring, non sequitur.
Chris obviously doesn't understand the means of creating frequency response graphs of the spectrum which everyone uses in audio testing as well as RF testing and measurement. The point being to apply as even db level of frequencies while sweeping the frequency range and reporting the level of how those signals are passed. This sounds like a waterfall, or the old fashion TV set tuned to a channel where there is no signal.
I mean no offense to Chris but he sort of reminds me of the old saying, 'remain silent and be thought a fool, speak and remove all doubt'.
