The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.
As I've stated many times, The Ed Sullivan show gave a total view of whatever happened in music and theater for almost 25 years. Every program deserves to be saved, and, if possible, made available for viewing as a historical record.
totally.
Unbelievably beautiful. Brava.
I truly didn't appreciate what I was hearing when I heard her as a child and my response now is WOW.

vilken röst.....
Nobody has to this point been near what Callas did. Sometimes considered ugly, but with the FEELING, intensity, most of all the legato she was the master of. Staccatio is a nono for us older operalovers.
I agree - Callas at her best was spellbinding, and the dramatic intensity of her performances remain unmatched. Of course, Birgit sings some wonderful notes, and that final "cosi," which is treacherous if you are running out of breath, is well sung. I think we were blessed with hearing the last of the truly great singers.
This dress showed off what a wonderful 1950's hourglass figure she had. She looked heavier than she was because she had no neck which was ideal for singing.
Did Mario Lanza ever make an appearance? Also Pavarotti when young? I know Coloratura Soprano Julie Andrews did...although she didnt sing operatic material.
Nilsson is great, but Callas is even better.
It is silly to compare them at all. Completely different voices, but we all know Callas fanatics can’t help themselves.
Il BARONE - I watched her final appearances with Di Stefano. Her voice was diminished, but the dramatic intensity was still spellbinding. And, of course, we remain under the spell of THE ENCHANTRESS.
