I happened to be home alone this evening UA-cam surfing and came across this performance by Madame Price! I don't know much about Opera , have not paid it that much attention but I decided to watch this video. I immediately understood that I was being given a magnificent gift. How could anything so beautiful , so wondrous as what I was hearing come from a human being? Now here's the thing, I am a grown 77-year-old man. And here I am lying on this sofa with tears running down my face,. I suppose I should be ashamed to admit that, but somehow I'm not, I'm just not! Thank you Ms Price for your stunning gift to me and to the world.
The fact that she's still alive at her late 90s make it the more better. She can still sing, I tell you that for sure. Very very few opera singers are gifted. Most singers work hard to find a voice for themselves. Only rarely you hear opera singers sing well into their 80s and 90s like Pryce. May God give you strength Miss Pryce.
Now This is how one sings Vissi d’Arte. As close to perfection as a human instrument can get. Spot-on pitch, superbly sustained tempo, phrasing, breath control and intonation. Kids, listen and learn.
I have heard every rendition of this aria on UA-cam, and this is absolutely the best!! Ms. Price's voice is rich, clear and powerful. By contrast, many other performers use muddy weeping voice at the lower notes, and scream at the higher notes. There is just no comparison. Price is the best soprano ever.
She knew how to sing like crazy!!! Proper placement. And she was free to interpret however way she wanted because the technique was secondary to what we call the artist. Ms. Price is an American for all ages. Tops!!!!!!!
I remember watching the Diva perform Tosca on television when I was a kid. I had never seen an opera, had no idea what was going on but her sound and that magnificent carriage fascinated me. Truly the Stradivarius of singers.
What did humanity ever do...to deserve such. a sublime voice that this Diva of Divas is able to deliver to us? Until my last breath. leontyne will always have a premiere place in my heart.
This is beyond human emotion. This is the emotion of angels. I am not ashamed to say that I wept. Incredible technique. Incredible instrument. Incredible artistry.
The first time I heard this song by Ms Price, I was 10 yrs old. I refused to listen to anyone else. When I saw her at the Kennedy Center, the last song of 5 encores was this song. My dream came true. To this day after 50 yrs, I still stand by my words. I refuse to listen to anyone but Ma Price.☺️💐
You beautiful lady out of the deep south you came to us with the voice of an angel God bless you I will thank the heavenly father. For giving you to us
There are so many wonderful renditions of this aria, Callas, Caballe, Verrett and the list goes on and on. But, there is something about this live performance from the divine Ms. Price that makes my heart cry happily. I just can't say enough about it.
To me is that beautiful primal voice that only Madame Price possesses. The most beautiful voice to come out of America. I'm so glad I saw her Live Twice something truly fantastic. 🇫🇷 Arnuad Bourbon Amaral
The tone, the emotion, and the depth of the Aflat coming off the high Bflat (to me thats the best note in the aria)...its like this subtle, heartbreaking cry.
She was really that last of the prima donnas. So glad i heard her often and had the courage to meet her on several ocassion. After the first time, she remembered me and called me by name. Larger than life yet down to earth.
It was those uniquely beautiful colours in her voice that made all who love the most beautdiful of things fall in love with her. Her voice was like molten 24K GOLD! PURE! I was a boy in London, when I first heard that angelic voice. I got married to it right there and then. There will be NO DIVORCE!
I’ve listened to so many greats sing this aria but this is the first performance that the diction was impeccably clear and didn’t distract from her tone and vibrato. It was all a single continuous line of pure auditory and artistic silk. Brava, Mme Price 👏🏼
Leontyne Price....! What a timeless treasure she is as an artist and performer of the highest caliber! Her full lips, dramatic gaze, and heavenly presence all compliment her beauty in delivering her gift....which is of course THE VOICE!!!!!
Clara no, Zelmira is correct. Leontyne’s voice was one of the most open, technically correct voices in the entire era of recording. More modern singers have smaller, more congested, and, even, nasally voices - which is the current standard. Her example remains a standard for all servants (as Maria Callas once called all opera singers, musicians) of the art form. I can’t recall hearing a singer with such power, balance, and uniformity of my generation.
Elle avait tout beauté physique et vocale, merveilleuse présence sur scène avec autorité, musicalité et sensibilité, intelligence musicale de plus une voix puissante servant avec style Verdi, Puccini et plusieurs autres compositeurs français, italiens et anglais.
Leontyne’s voice expresses the unexpressible to its depths!! Her voice makes us feel safe and emotionally lifted!! Thanks be to GOD for Leontyne and her Voce Assoluta!!!
I love Sutherland, Caballé, Callas and Gruberova, but Price's Tosca is Heavenly and out of this world. It just bring tear to my eyes to be able to listen such perfection at once. When I die I want Leontyne to wait for me in the doors of heaven singing this magnificent piece. Signora Brava!!!!
That in my mind was the best version I've heard. It's such a hard piece to get right, Keri Te kanawa can pull it off, Callas just acts her way through it, though with a beautiful passion, and Leontyne nails it and sings through a third element, her soul.
I met her voice almost 40 years ago in "il trovatore - tacea la notte placida" on LP. Her voice went to a higher note spilling around me - You know what I mean - only she can sing like this. My God, who is it? I listened to the aria over and over again. Clash with Leontyne Price. No one has a beautiful voice like her. "Bitter" in the low register and angelic in the high notes. She cannot be confused with anyone else. I'm an opera fool I have. My friends find it annoying. The first opera love is forever love.
97 today, all blessings and love, to the great Diva.
A voice from an age when singers could actually sing! A long forgotten art! Heavenly simple heavenly!
The greatest performance of Vicci Darte you will ever hear. The gold standard for every soprano.
"Vissi"
remarkable! I hope she knows now, in her late life, how much she is appreciated still today!

This is pure perfection, the pureness of the high notes, how relaxed she is, is astounding.

Je n'ai jamais entendu une perfection si naturelle pour chanter cet air. Léontine Price, la plus belle voix du XXe siècle.
She knew how to sing like crazy!!! Proper placement. And she was free to interpret however way she wanted because the technique was secondary to what we call the artist. Ms. Price is an American for all ages. Tops!!!!!!!
Happy 95th Life Anniversary
To Her Royal Highness,
Leontyne Price
Grandest Of Them All!
Very different than many other Tosca's I've seen. Darker voice. Absolutely beautiful
I first heard Price in 1960. There has never been another voice for me.........
Leontyne Price's beautiful voice is explanation enough of the lyrics!
I remember watching the Diva perform Tosca on television when I was a kid. I had never seen an opera, had no idea what was going on but her sound and that magnificent carriage fascinated me. Truly the Stradivarius of singers.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Extremely good. Live long and prosper.
THIS is why I love UA-cam. God Bless the people who upload gems like this. Now, excuse me while I wipe away the tears.
I literally don't understand how she can make it look so effortless and sound so flawless
She's Leeontyne Price. It's what she does.
Practice, practice, practice, talent, practice, practice, practice, then practice some more. That's the recipe.
The best. Period.
This is beyond human emotion. This is the emotion of angels. I am not ashamed to say that I wept. Incredible technique. Incredible instrument. Incredible artistry.
Thats totally true even i have my oun interpretation and i want to ear youre personal opinion

@@LupitaJaled3 While I can tell you are having fun, your rendition is terrible.
Thus, in that order most definitely!
This is a prime example as to why we love her soooo much!!!

I have no adequate words to describe such beautiful singing.
You beautiful lady out of the deep south you came to us with the voice of an angel God bless you I will thank the heavenly father. For giving you to us
An absolute great soprano, powerful and with total mastery of the vocal range. Outstanding.
There are so many wonderful renditions of this aria, Callas, Caballe, Verrett and the list goes on and on. But, there is something about this live performance from the divine Ms. Price that makes my heart cry happily. I just can't say enough about it.
+Phillip Beverley I am gonna have to agree!
To me is that beautiful primal voice that only Madame Price possesses. The most beautiful voice to come out of America. I'm so glad I saw her Live Twice something truly fantastic. 🇫🇷 Arnuad Bourbon Amaral
You forgot to mention that it is the most beautiful lyric soprano of the twentieth century with the possible exception of Anna Moffo.
The tone, the emotion, and the depth of the Aflat coming off the high Bflat (to me thats the best note in the aria)...its like this subtle, heartbreaking cry.
For me, that note is the measure of this aria. How she manages to distill the entire plea of the aria in that one note is miraculous.
Price was one of the great "breathers." Brava!
She was really that last of the prima donnas. So glad i heard her often and had the courage to meet her on several ocassion. After the first time, she remembered me and called me by name. Larger than life yet down to earth.
She is one of the reasons why i love to sing ópera
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Extremely good. Live long and prosper.
I have listened to Price since I was a little girl. Such purity , utterly sublime. Thankyou 💖🏴
Bravo, obviously marvellous. 👌
The most glorious voice. It comes from deep, deep inside. She brings me to tears.
Oh my goodness. She killed it. Pure beautiful voice!
Beauty in every note. I can listen to her everyday!

Beautiful performance. Her performance transcends this old media. It literally raised the hair on the back of my head.
I feel blessed and honored to hear this singing.
One of the truly greatest voices of the entire 20th Century. We are so blessed that there are so many recordings of this magnificent woman!
This is NOT a human singing ! It is an ANGEL that came on stage to sing Tosca !!!
That's what you call a free and open throat,a superb instrument and technique, something we're not too accustomed to hearing today.
+Zelmira
Er...yes we are. You must've been asleep the past 30 years.
Totally agree!!

so true!
I would be curious how she developed her voice. I bet she never forced her voice. She just let it be.
There is pure vocal GOLD!
One of the great marvels of the twentieth century! Such an exquisitely beautiful SOUND. Frankly Matchless!
Without doubt one of the most amazing voices of all time!
There are no words ........
I am moved to tears.
Beyond beautiful.
Love her. Superb.

Marco Puente she’s very alive...
@@YDVDNVRR I think he believes he'll out live her!!
Brook Eggleston but nothing can be assured. Specially these days.

DHDP Well put!
Callas owns this.

Glorious voice.
Excellent!
Damn that voice!
I would love to listen to this song while I’d study. It’s only recently I learned about her full career and finally found this video! Amazing!!
I met her voice almost 40 years ago in "il trovatore - tacea la notte placida" on LP. Her voice went to a higher note spilling around me - You know what I mean - only she can sing like this.
