Let me first say - When you've got it, you've got it! Sam, where you've taken your channel in the last ten months is nothing short of amazing! The quality of content, the level of editing - both visually and audio pleasing is perfect! Something is happening here, I see it, as well as all of your views, you've elevated your game and this now the real deal. Great job with the music choice, felt like I drifted back in the day to Little Havana and time stood still. Also worth noting is the attention to detail, so through with all of the provided information and real world hands on experience. Now about the MDX Type S Ultra as featured here: Fantastic vehicle Acura has brought to the party. 3.0L Turbo V6, 10-Speed Automatic, 21" rolling stock wheels, Brembo Brakes, Air Ride Suspension, 25 Speakers ELS Sound with 1000 Watts of power, Massaging seats, Ambient Lighting, Panoramic Roof, Acura's Suite of Safety Features. This is a serious contender in the competitive segment is falls within. Thanks for continuing to deliver interesting, lively and detailed reviews and drag races. Awesome work!

this vs Genesis GV80 which is also cheaper, this price is too high and everybody knows it. Now I don't think it's a bad vehicle, it's solid! But this is just too high it's absolutely silly, the RDX is similar, when you compare it to santa fe calligraphy, GV70, that model competes evens worse then the MDX which is a better car and is a good fit for fomse.

In Canada Ontario, My biggest love is Acura MDX 2022 Platinum Elite, after carefully chosen from MDX , X5 , GLE350 , RX350 , Q7 , GV80, QX60 and test drive them, I have driven MDX for 6 month till now, everything is fantastic fine, enjoying the MDX on-road feeling everyday to/from work !
comparing MDX Type S, I didn't care about regular MDX's 1 second behind, but the reliability. Turbo charger engine will always less reliable than NA engine. gas consumption is not my concern, although my regular MDX 2022 gas mileage till now is about primum 13.5l per 100km, it is not bad either.

Honestly, the Type S powertrain should be the standard powertrain for the MDX.
As a 22 MDX Tech owner, I enjoyed my test drive of the Type S. Aside from braking performance and that ELS Studio 3D, it didn’t wow me…..especially at that price point.

    • @drivescene6747
      @drivescene6747 2 роки тому +15

If the Type S powertrain was standard, then the starting price for the MDX would be around $65k. The majority of MDX sales come from the base, tech and ASpec, the base is around $50k, the tech around $53k and ASpec around $58k. Having the Type S powertrain as standard takes away the value proposition of the MDX, Acura is smart to have an MDX to basically cater to everyone.

    • @AFCompany

If that was the base power train the MDX would be much more expensive.

    • @TheBreakfastLover

I'd argue the majority of MDX buyers would prefer the tried-and-true naturally aspirated V6 over any turbocharged option. Typical MDX buyers are value and reliability-centric that want a luxury 3-row rather than winning a "30 roll" or dig race.

@@msrr1303 I have a base motor type A. It is not fine compared to my previous 2008. The 2008 3.7 v6 with a five speed transmission was much better tuned. They worked well together. This new one does not. To me it is not a smooth motor transmission combination. Honda and Acura have lost their mojo. My old Accord 2002 was a great handler and with the v6 pretty fast too. My Honda S2000 2004 was likely the best overall sports car I have ever had, and my other sports cars include Vette and Porsche 911. Traded ‘15 BMW X5 for ‘24 MDX Type S.
My X5 was low tech, very responsive with incredible synchrony between the engine and transmission. Handling was excellent, but overall comfort was lacking. Not dissing BMW since that is what you expect from a BMW.
With the MDX Type S, I get to choose comfort or sport. Acceleration and handling may be better in the MDX, but not by much in the opinion of a guy that uses this as a daily driver. The MDX just seems so much more comfortable for a guy in his late 50’s.
As for reliability and maintenence costs go the Acura may be better. My 9 year old X5 was pretty reliable. No major problems, but I only drove 7000 miles per year.
BMW and Acura make great vehicles. Just need to know what your wants and expectations are.

I test drove a brand new one last month. I love the exterior, quality of materials, and the room. However, transmission was clunky and the radio software/controls are horrendous. 10 years dated. Ended up buying a 2024 X5. ZERO load time, no lag and way more features. The MDX software takes forever to boot up, no touchscreen, and horrendous controls for CarPlay. Ended up with MDX S Advance over X5. Not quite as fast, and maybe slightly less sharp overall, but interior comfort, and real personalities with the various drive modes, plus a third row, won us over. Seats are incredible. The 25 spkr ELS signature sounds better than any system I've heard in a car. Type S seems really responsive in the 40-80 mph range.
Really, can't go wrong with either. Nice to have options. Unfortunately a lot of the armchair critics have never driven either. There are both great cars and I don't fault anyone either way.. But the F pace S is still the best feeling car in the segment to me.. I still prefer that to the MDX when we go for a backroad drive.

I thought that all Honda V6s 2008 and after paired to automatics (including base MDX, Pilot, etc.) have VCM, which is Honda's lingo for cylinder deactivation. In fact, this feature has been very infamous due to issues with VCM engines from the late 2000s and early 2010s. I have a 2022 MDX type A. Before that I had a very well kept 2008 MDX and before that a 2004 MDX. I did not take enough time test driving the 2022 before buying it. I just assumed after really liking the 2004 and loving the 2008 as SPORT utilities that the 2022 would be similar. Plus I have had a Honda S2000 and two Accords, all good handling fun cars to drive. The problem with the 2022 MDXs, all models, is they are not fun to drive. I did not wait to get a type S MDX because all my Honda products in the past have been normally aspirated motors without turbos and I like no turbo better, way better. Don't get me wrong, the current and past MDXs I have owned are all made well and fairly luxurious, but the latest one is more like driving a Yacht and not a Speedboat.

21 TLX Type-S owner here. The infotainment system is complete trash. I hate it and work on a laptop using a TouchPad all day. It just doesn't work well and Android or Apple is even worse. The TLX does have VCM. Just no V-Tech. The MDX is gorgeous but way too $$$. That push button shifter gotta go too. I've had a Acura with that shifter now since 2016 and I hate it. 6:43 Mark, why can't Acura allow the 360 Camera do full-screen on the TLX like this does? Seems fixable via OTA.
