Hey, AC. I'd like to point out some interesting notes. The massive UP SD70M roster was inspired by, and spec'd to, the original 24 that Southern Pacific had. On top of that, the largest single model order ever placed-- for SD70M's -- was done in October of 1999 (hard to believe it's been that long already.) The second thing worth mentioning: EMD's safety cab. They first appeared on the Centennial locomotives as part of a wide ranging experiment for future ideas/concepts EMD was working on. Oddly enough, the design went through the changes from the original "Tear-drop style" on the Centennials, to the "Tri-clops" on the CP Red-barns and early SD60M's, then back to the "Tear-drop style" on the SD60M's, SD70M's, MAC's, and 75's. (Sheesh, it's nuts trying to keep up sometimes on certain features. I sometimes get dizzy time-lining these things. )
Indian railways have like 1700 of emd 710 powered locomotives and i just hear them everywhere everyday. Diesel electrics have the best sound and smell no matter how heavy or fast electrics can pull. i am not against electric locomotives.. but if i have to pick between a "12000hp" alstom vs 6000hp ge i would pick the ge twice 😂.
The flared radiator SD70Ms were also built to be Tier 1 compliant. Hence, the reason for the split cooling and flared radiators. Also, the notch cab is considered to be "Phase 2.5" or "Phase 3", while the non-notched cab units with flared radiators are "Phase 2". It's confusing, I know! Lol some Phase 1 SD70M's are referred to as "Phase 1.5" or "Phase 2" because they have updated electronics and controls, but still retain their non-flared radiator appearance.
Grew up on the Union Pacific I love sd70m in service they were really good for crews on Spokane sub and else where their system cn that’s hole different story growing around these I love them when visiting on Union Pacific or bnsf sd70ace I been doing hole research on them Union Pacific loves them however they nickname thunder box cab
Hi AC trust that you are well and looking forward to your next Video. I have a Question, why isn’t NS rebuilding their SD70 M-2 as SD 70ACe? All the best.
Excellent work AC! I live in Northwest NJ. I never see modern freight power as we have the NJT Morris Essex line. We do have 2 short lines, the Morristown & Erie and Dover & Rockaway working branch lines. No more NS....They only allow 4 axle freight locomotives on the Morris Essex. Great work!
Gotta be honest, in my opnion, a EMD unit without the flared dynamic brake resistances feels weird. Its not that I dont like them, its more that they dont have the same feel. Maybe I've been around 40-2 too much.
The wide cab locomotives still look goofy to me, and i still cringe a little when i see the eye sore of BNSF pumpkin orange!!! Still Love me trains though no matter the scheme or if they look goofy or not.👍👍😊😊
Lots of great information AC! I have always been an EMD fan! I just started my Bone Valley series on my channel with a preview last week and the first installment released this past Sunday. Stop in and check them out when you can. Thanks! Cheers, Danny
Too bad, I loved seeing the M-2 lead trains, which by the time I started train watching in 2017, was rare and far between. They had beautiful sounding horns, too. Yea I know, go ahead and call me a foamer if you must.
@@hakeemsd70m Yes. GE turbos have never had the reliability of the EMD's, yet the hybrid EMD turbo is a different animal. Takes much longer to change than the GE's. My disdain over the M-2 is for putting DC motors under a unit designed for AC motors. Not fun to work on. Oh, and a DC output alternator where a 3 phase AC output alternator was meant to be.

Thanks for watching Bishop.
Fun Fact: the Southern Peru Copper Corps SD70s were the very last standard cabs produced by EMD
Thanks for that little nugget, I didn't know that!
Awesome video with some great information, 👍thanks ac.
Thanks Tommy.

I remember seeing a NS notch nose SD70M leading a train in Atlanta, GA last summer. Probably the last I’ll ever see too. Another great video by AC!

I see CN SD75I’s and SD70I’s every time I go RailFanning. If CN only had 25 SD70Is I must be lucky to see them everyday.

The 70M you have in the thumbnail is the one I have a model of.

great video
Great video liked 👍🚄🚄

Use to see alot of sd70ms in local service here in Suffolk Va.
It seems the old timers are leving the rails. and the new DC to AC rookies are showing up
Indeed.
Now does standard cab SD70 Locomotives are still active on NS?
Great catch. Nice video ...
The 70M phase 2 cab seems pretty similar to the ACe-T4's. Awesome video!

Perfectly understood.. CNW's non-dynamic SD45s come to mind for me.
I love ns wish they had more hi hoods still but they are like steam a thing of the past.

SD70M-2 was the worst one they ever made. Always did like the sound of a 70.
Too bad, I loved seeing the M-2 lead trains, which by the time I started train watching in 2017, was rare and far between. They had beautiful sounding horns, too. Yea I know, go ahead and call me a foamer if you must.
The SD70M-2 didn't constantly blow turbos like the ES40DCs did when they were new and still under warranty.

Why don't you go to orther city and film you stay in city which is PA why not san Diego or san Antonio
Cause PA is a state and those two cities are located in states very far from PA
