This has got to be the most realistic model train set up that Iv ever seen on video or real life. The fact that you use real coal with all the staining is so cool . Thanks for sharing. It’s fascinating to watch and to hear the squeaks and creaks . Pure Gold .
Wow! I never imagined how effectively natural outdoor sunlight and shadows in conjunction with real rocks and vegetation could completely eliminate any artificial or scale model appearance. I even consciously tried to see the presumably real trees in the background as being out of scale and far too large compared to the trains, but I simply could not see any artifice nor even the slightest subconscious "uncanniness" even when consciously and purposefully attempting to do so. Amazing and fascinating! My mind even seemed to insist on seeing your satellite dish as an enormous radio telescope, mentally scaling it up instead of the train down. Thank you for sharing this with everyone!
I used weighted Dash 9's for heavy hauling. Mac 70's were factory too light. just a thought. years back I had a 12 ft tall flood loading tower , but never go far enough to build it to hold the coal and flooding operation. massive task. I still have the Kadee rotary coupler that I made. but that was it. Great job you did.
So cool You inspired a fun way to garden FOR hauling COMPOST AND WEEDS NOTE MY GARDEN COMPOST KINDA LOOKS LIKE COAL TOO 😊😊😊 SO COOL. A FUN WAY TO HAVE A G SCALE RAILWAYS IN A HOME GARDEN AND A PRACTICAL WAY TO USE IT ?
Im a retired "C N. North America" engineer, Sarnia , Port Huron based. I really like the realism to your layout, your B.N.S.F. locomotives caught my eye because I was transporting them on a train from Sarnia to Battle Creek mi. Back in the 1990's, they were brand new and the envy on the railroads at that time, I was lucky because we were using the Canadian National wide cab and s d. 40 locomotives replacing the Grand Trunk Western Geeps which were pretty Old at the time but we still envied thise B N. Locomotives. Just thought i would share my memory of railroading.
I really enjoyed watching this video and it's a good learning tool. Everything was explained in detail so that the viewers could learn in a easy-to-use process.
Wow !! Very impressive operation !! Over powered trains aren't any fun !! Your operation actually NEEDS the power !! Very cool, well done !! The coal loading operation is pure genius !!
Outstanding set up, I am in the process of building a g scale layout. Have often thought about being able to load coal or ore. Thank you for this video, great engineering 👍👍👍👍
Really cool! You took the realism of model railroading to another level. Your description of the coal loading, locomotive placement and train handling is very informative. Love the scenery of your layout and weathering of your locomotives and cars.
I work at a coal fired power plant in southern WI, we also get our coal by train from wyoming and nebraska, we dump our 114 car trains with a rotary dumper as well. Awesome vid.
That sqeeky wheel at the end of the train is the cherry on top for me i mean this setup blows anything eles out of the water, great job more then great im speachless
Great Layout! LGB tracks for Standard gauge trains faces the fundamental challenge of having track ties and rails already too large, but despite that, you managed to have realistic paint textures, speed and track radius etc.
In the cabs of our units with smart displays we have a slow speed control. Set it and turn it on and it compensates for speed changes. To slow it increases the speed of the traction motors and to fast it lets it coast until it hits the set speed. Our tacks mostly flat so I haven’t seen it try and apply brakes or anything.
Time stamp 16:00; well what’s so great about 16:00 well that’s when he finally stopped talking. How many times did I hear 3 on the head end 3 mid and 1 DPU. Great video though 😊😊😊
Wow! Very similar to how we dump iron ore at Cleveland Cliffs Steel(formerly AK Steel) in Middletown, Ohio. Whether right or wrong, I always referred to it as a Swing Dumper, since it was uncoupled and did not use true rotary couplers.
I live in Cheyenne Wyoming, and I've seen my fare share of coal trains. Even the long ones, maybe a mile long, will only have 3 engines on front, one in the middle and one at the end. Although I think the one at the end, is more to help with braking. I had to wait at a crossing once for 20 minutes as a coal train went by. I think I have seen one coal train with 5 front engines. Plus the middle and end one.
Awesome!!!!!!! Because of the chance of communication issues, since the helpers are separately controlled from the head locomotives can you use all 4 helpers on rear??? In reference to the rotary dumper, could you put another magnet on the exit side to unhook those cars as well?
Wow! I know that train is expensive!!!! I have ho scale … 105 coal cars 8 locomotives NS…2 gevos 4 sd70ace 1 dash 9 … 1 ES 44AC …and that’s a couple of grand + , 1 locomotives is 289.90 HO with sound decoders… ho much is one G scale locomotive?
You aren't the only person in America to do this. I, too, haul actual coal on my G-scale train. In addition to this, I get paid $1 for every $22.5 in revenue the train generates. I'm not allowed to say anything else about this because it's a government secret.
You might consider putting the rotary dumper station uphill from the loading chute so it's a gravity reload. If I had one of your hopper cars and a section of track, I could build a scale rotary dumper with scale steel girders, a 1/8" thick steel chute mounted to 1/16 scale truck tires, with a vibrator electric motor to make the coal slide off. A gearmotor in the rail bed just after the rotary dumper, with a slowly-turning brush, could give the empty car a gentle push. I used to build dioramas. Diesel-electric locomotives are kinda boring to me because the family home is next to a freight line, with a turnout 30' from the bedroom I'm currently watching this video in, and a crossing 200' further along. Friends find it hard to believe I can sleep through four horn blasts and multiple whining-throbbing diesel engines vibrating the whole house. My friend gave me a (Buddy L No9 ?) 260 steam locomotive, tender, caboose before he passed away. I think the manufacturer designed it to be slightly off from G scale but I only got it for a model to scale up to build a 24" gauge smoker grill, with the tender car acting as a refrigerated bar. Grade can be assessed by the use of some clear plastic hose almost filled with water, to measure the rise over 100" of track. The water will be the same height at both ends. Working with 24" gauge we use garden hose with clear hose at either end. Really cool setup man!
Just listening to those last two that you pushed forward that went down the hump those couplers definitely did kind of a crunch. Hope you don’t break any couplers. You may have to think about putting halfway down the track the cushion breaks or a cushion brake system for the cars rolling down Ease up on those couplers,
One day, I’ll get promoted from N to G with a good amount of space God willing. Tried to do this same set up with Nscale but I paused that idea for now.
I'm shocked that you need a lot of power, I thought for sure G scale trains had an option of some kind, where you could have sanding if you really wanted to add it in the sand fills, but suppose I was wrong.
Very awesome! Your track work also looks great. I'm on the verge of laying my own track, and I'm curious - is your track floating, or is it fixed to something beneath it? Thanks!
so not to brag but i deal with real coal trains everyday (adds smirk) nah but for real this is baddass man id like to see this irl one day. on a side note yes i work for bnsf on the powder river division so i see coal everyday hence why this is so bad ass its my everyday life but on a mini version.
Love your work Mate, at 17:30 minute mark with the train going around a right hand corner listening to the creaks coming from the sleepers (ties), I'm Australian, that's realism. Do you have steam or just diesel's? Have you considered running a Y6b and a A class doubleheader with another Y6b on the rear? This really nice and well made production. What width is the gauge? Is it 15 mm or 50 mm gauge? I personally don't know the width to your G gauge?
I run g scale which is 1:29. I have one steam loco for now, Sierra railway #3. Check out one of my earlier videos. I plan to get more steam in the future. Glad you enjoyed!
when I saw the thumbnail, I was like "another coal train" then I looked again, "Wait THATS G SCALE"!
Yeah. It's G scale
Coal trains need love too.
It was almost perfect, only the fake coal in view gave it away.
is it yours?@@Mikediorama6301
1. I’ve been waiting to see someone apply modern trains and tech to g scale exactly like this.
2. 200lbs + holy crap this is some next level stuff

Now that was cool to watch !! I just need a bigger back yard.....And my wife's permission. LOL..
I love rail fanning I and I like really realistic remote trains I love your videos and I’m subscribed to your channel

@@SERA52Railfan I was referring to the original Aristo D-9s with their extra weights. LOL The new ones do not have them.

Thought this was a another live coal train video, what an amazing G Scale 👍👍👍
Very, very nice! Great vid, thanks for sharing.
This is literally the COOLEST Layout EVER! 🤙
33:22. Love the giant dinosaur photo/video bomb ❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much for posting this video, one of my goals is to simulate live coal loads in either 2 rail o scale or g scale one day. This is inspiring!
Wow !! Very impressive operation !! Over powered trains aren't any fun !! Your operation actually NEEDS the power !! Very cool, well done !! The coal loading operation is pure genius !!

This has got to be the best setup I've ever seen and running live loads. It is a crime that this channel doesn't have more subs.

You are an absolute master of scale! The entire system looks so real that I am positive if somebpeople didn't already know, they couldn't tell.
awesome! well done all the way around! Bravo!
amazing, well done
Outstanding thank You for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
That is by far the most realistic video Ive seen
Wow. Excellent and beautiful work! Keep it up.
Thank you! Will do!
Those are soooo realistic the thumbnail looks real
Everything in the video looks real

I use both LGB and USA trains track and much of my layout is flex track!
What's the saying? As close as it gets to the real thing. Unbelievably Awesome.
That’s what I was going for😁👍. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
That is a freaking nice outdoor layout. Awesome video, thank you!
Glad you like it!
This is so awesome, if I had the funds I would start building one tomorrow!
Really impressive ! Greetings from Germany
This is so great and realistic good wethering etcetera, also good camera work ! Greetings from the Netherlands
Did I say "very nice"? I mean this is absolutely great.
This is incredible! Agree with you, never seen anything like this before. Amazing layout and video, and definitely looking forward to more!
Subbed!
Very realistic operation of a rotary dumper you should be featured in the OGR forum Very impressive 👍🏻✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
Good video my friends awesome 😮 fantatic locomotive Greeting 🙋
Wow this is the coolest coal G Scale I’ve seen yet great job Brother keep up the great work 💯💪❤️
Thanks 👍
Wow impressive.
Now this is proper G-scale; awesome!
Great design and explanation!
Thank you!
I like it!
Wow this so amazing! I can only hope to have a layout one day as great as yours! Thanks for all your amazing videos. CP
Thanks for watching!
epic
This is some next level stuff bro! I love it

Traxxas has cruise control I don't know if you can adapt that or not
This Inspires Me To Build A N Scale Layout Around My Room!
Do it! I started with an idea to go around my office. Now my office turned into a complete train room.
Fantastic
there is a hand hold magnic you can use open the cuple which give you feeling that you there working.
Too real!
Deeply impressive, if a little concerning.
Just curious if you ever tried pulling the coal trains with all of the power on the front end, 7 or 8 locomotives ?
When your model train can move an 1/8th of a ton....

They are all used for pulling and braking. IRL.
when dynamic braking is an actual requirement on a model railroad 🤣

you should construct a conveyor system to load the tipple for you
This might as well be the read thing at this point.

I love your idea and believe and considered it but I don’t think the topography on my layout would allow it.
This is Genius...have you told the story of how you built this and the years it took...
A runaway on this line has real consequences! Now...if Kadee would make a rotary coupler for you!
Where can you buy the engines and cars they look amazing i wanna buy one sometime.
Just listening to those last two that you pushed forward that went down the hump those couplers definitely did kind of a crunch. Hope you don’t break any couplers. Pretty cool. I imagine you don't have to do much weathering since you are using real coal.
I'm shocked that you need a lot of power, I thought for sure G scale trains had an option of some kind, where you could have sanding if you really wanted to add it in the sand fills, but suppose I was wrong.
even a rotary coupler, what happens when your track seperates and goes away from your train. DERAIN AND DAMAGE occurs. Bad idea.
speeds vary from 0.2 - 1 mph when loading.
Very awesome! Your track work also looks great. I'm on the verge of laying my own track, and I'm curious - is your track floating, or is it fixed to something beneath it?

How many pieces of rollingstock on your layout at one time? Do you have a large railyard? Do you have a trackplan we could see?
What's the hole for on the side of the black coal shoot? Thxs
excellent ! your topography looks like California Sierra foothills?
What if you link the head end to the mid train power. Making that dp. Then, making the rear end a manned helper?
What are those strange UP SD-units with a hood much lower than the cab?
