29 years ago I went with my father to see the Whalers play an exhibition game against the Soviet Union hockey team. I wasn't really too thrilled because I would have rather seen Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers clash. Before the fall of Communist Russia the Soviets were considered the unbeatable team and stories of steroids use were rampant. Three periods of intense combat led to a 0-0 score. In double overtime the Whalers pulled their goalie and Captain Ron Francis intercepted a pass from wingman Torrie Robertson. On the breakaway Francis faked out the Soviet team goalie and scored the only goal in the game. A 1-0 victory for the whalers and the crowd roared so loud the whole building seemed to shake! I'll never forget it. Thanks Dad!
Ha ha!! I wasn't asking you - I was telling you ; )` Great story either way, but in my mind Francis, Robertson and any other of "The Whale" who were on the ice at the time celebrated that goal to Brass Bonanza! Still dont Know how they are not relocating a team to Hartford they have an Arena (XL Center), They clearly have a Hockey market in Hartford that is dying for a Return to glory in the NHL, plus more and more Fans of the NHL would love to relive the Nostalgia. It is like the Jets situation all over again just relocate Arizona or Florida over to Hartford and lets get this done Bettman #BringbacktheWhalers!
Attended a lot of Binghamton Whalers games in the early '80s. Always brought the Broome County Arena alive when this was played, pre-game and after each goal. Remember Bob Sullivan, Ken Holland, Stu Barnes, Gilles Lupien and Marty Howe among many others!
I'm a Flyers fan and I remember one night they are playing in Harford and the Whalers are just kicking the crap out of them. Wound up being a 6-1 final. I was getting really pissed off until after yet another Harford goal the Flyers play by play announcer Gene Hart goes, " you know it would be nice if the Flyers could stop this team from scoring so we don't have to listen to that damn song again". I instantly went from being pissed off to laughing my ass off. Now everytime I hear this song I start laughing remembering that

Just saw Brian Burke interviewed on Sportsnet about his book and they played this at the end of the interview. Had it stuck in my head (whistling) so had to look it up here. Thanks! 👍
I was a Bruins fan in the sixties thru 1979. A whalers fan 1974 and beyond I only dropped the Bruins when the Whale joined the NHL. It was tough to do but Orr and Esposito etc. Were long gone.
The greatest sports theme song in my opinion & not just because I lived in Connecticut when I was young. I remember when they changed their name from New England Whalers to Hartford Whalers.
I was born when Whalers were relocated to Carolina, so I don't know much about them (luckily I remember Kapanen played his early years there), but nowadays I've read a lot of them and watched games and tributes.
I’m a Chicago Blackhawks fan. I was listening to them play the Whalers on the radio. When the Whalers scored. I heard this song. Normally when a team scores a goal, the music is 30 seconds and out. This song and went on for two minutes plus. I was intrigued. I heard this now, and it brought back that moment...

back again! great win by the Hurricanes in Whalers uniforms on Friday Feb 19. May the Whalers never be forgotten.
Awesome horns, solid back beat, organ solo. Perfect. Mad props from a Red Wings fan.
good inspection
I randomly heard BB the other day for the first time in a LONG while. Choked me up a little bit. Long live The Whale!
yeah its amazing that nobody else has this remastered copy, they all have the copy that sounds like it was recorded from a VHS Tape
I remember hearing this 30-35 years ago as a kid on the Italian language station in Canada. It was like an advertisement when they would talk about what food was on sale...essentially a TV flyer...lol. No better suited song for an Italian grocery store than old Brass Bonanza. Grapes 50 cents a pound...lol!

@@randomrandomstuff2576 no me Tampa deserves it!
The city that needs a team back is Hartford and Quebec
That's one city now?
How
sharks547 I was just making a dumb joke. You wrote the "city" (rather than cities) and then listed two different cities. Sorry. But, I agree, those would be great cities to put NHL franchises in.
Lol my mistake but yea they should move the coyotes to hartford
They should move the Panthers to Hartford and the Coyotes to Quebec
Still dont Know how they are not relocating a team to Hartford they have an Arena (XL Center), They clearly have a Hockey market in Hartford that is dying for a Return to glory in the NHL, plus more and more Fans of the NHL would love to relive the Nostalgia. It is like the Jets situation all over again just relocate Arizona or Florida over to Hartford and lets get this done Bettman #BringbacktheWhalers!
CowCow be like:

ALL HAIL COW COW
bruh
what are you taking about i got depressed from reading this
your such a fucking comedian
Attended a lot of Binghamton Whalers games in the early '80s. Always brought the Broome County Arena alive when this was played, pre-game and after each goal. Remember Bob Sullivan, Ken Holland, Stu Barnes, Gilles Lupien and Marty Howe among many others!
RALEIGH!!!!!! PLEASE COME TO OUR GAAAAAAMES!!!!!
CAN YOU BELIEVE WE ACTUALLY WON A STANLEY CUP 10 YEARS AGO!?

Slayar OUR OWNER IS BANKRUPT AND IS BEING SUED BY HIS SONS FOR MONEY HE TOOK FROM THEIR TRUST FUND!
Now everytime I hear this song I start laughing remembering that
I’m going to use this song to wake my kids up in the morning for school.
If that doesn’t work, just yell out “RRRRRAALLLLLLEEEEEIIIGGGHHH!”
such a lovely person
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRALEIGH! COME TO OUR GAMES!
With how this past year's been going...
KEEP COMING TO OUR GAMES!
Played it here in Binghamton,NY too when we had the AHL Whalers affiliate in the 80's and 90's.
karstcast sent me here. this song goes hard
Any Toronto FC fans here after hearing this song used as their goal song at their temporary home games in East Hartford, CT?
The true hockey song! I wish we still heard this in the NHL
I'm staring at the Hartford Whalers crest and I've seen it a million times and, just like the arrow in FedEx, I have never noticed the "H" for Hartford in their crest. Wow. I can't believe I missed that for so long. Today is 07 March 2024 and I am 63 years old.
Hartford fans got royally screwed over.
RIP Jacques Ysaye
Just saw Brian Burke interviewed on Sportsnet about his book and they played this at the end of the interview. Had it stuck in my head (whistling) so had to look it up here. Thanks! 👍
Joe List told me to look this up.
Props to that Asian guy who knew the name of this tune.
Bruins Fan Here, this is by far the best song in NHL history, bring back the Whalers
I was a Bruins fan in the sixties thru 1979.
A whalers fan 1974 and beyond
I only dropped the Bruins when the Whale joined the NHL.
PLEASE COME TO OUR GAMES!!
