I liked my 3011 so much I kept it all these years in the closet until I got the energy to work on it.
Thanks to you, the biggest hassle was easy, ie, taking it apart! i have a electronic guy who works on circuit boards, but not monitors due to the size. He said if I bring the boards to him however, he'll check it out. Got them out & ready to get them to him.
Keeping my fingers crossed the problem is the same as yours AND he can find the parts.
Thanks for the very helpful video.

I have an old dell u2711, some years ago it started to have a problem: it only works whe the brightness and contrast are set to low, when i try to increase any option, the screen turn off, i have to set them back to low (the buttons at the right lateral still works), turn off it and turn on again and the image appears.. after watch your video i opened it, tried to reatach the cables and done a little cleaning, but the problem persist, didn't find any bad capacitor on the boards too... i'm considering to replace the power supply board... do you think there's a higher chance of have another board with problem or have any other suggestion?

I fixed two of these. After about 4 years those two (first one of) 2200 uF capacitors die. Just need to replace those that costs less than a dollar. It all starts as random back light shut down, but when you re-connect the power it would work for a day or two, but that trick would stop working after a few days and week. Then you just replace those caps.

Today I've bought this monitor in not working condition for 30€.
I've found that all output voltages (5V, 24V left and right) are missing.
With a bit of troubleshooting, I've found the power switcher TOP266VG cracked! With a smoke mark under it, on the PCB.
I think that this switcher pilot the secondary transformer and looking the pin-out, I've got 0L between Source and Drain.
Now I'm waiting for replacement part, but this monitor has a huge power supply.. so look all power IC, power MOSFET (there are 5 in primary side). It's possible that one of there are faulty. Also you need always to check if you got 300/380V on big primary capacitor.

I have had an issue for years now where the proximity sensor on the buttons doesn’t work right and often the buttons do not respond at all. Also the DisplayPort connection causes issue an issue where the monitor refuses to go to sleep and remains powered on with a black screen. G'day Nathan, sorry for the late reply mate. Too be honest it's hard to say. With a symptom like that it could very well be the main board OR the power board. I'd say it's more likely to be the power board though. I know with T.V's some of them (like the Sony's) have temperature chips on the main board that turn the tv off if faulty. The best part is, if it's the main board then finding one of those is definitely more easy compared to needing to replace a P/B. The reason for this is that like a TV the main boards are interchangeable between all sizes of monitor. So theoretically are a little easier to find. Where as the power boards are pretty specific to the size of the screen... if that makes sense. I think finding a power board for this monitor would be pretty difficult considering it was so expensive when released, meaning there wouldn't be as many floating around. But hey if you're smarter than me (which wouldn't be hard) you might be able to fix the board :) Sorry I couldn't shed more light on your problem. Let me know how you get on mate. Cheers

@@thiagodocoutoesilva1224 Fixed one of these at work. Turned out to be the IC chip overheating in the center of the power board. I detached the two transistors, heatsink, and IC chip from the board. Removed all old crusty thermal paste, and reapplied new paste and everything works as normal. I hope this helps some of you out there that don't have a spare power board.

My U3011 works half of the time. Sometimes the picture just disappears for no apparent reason. I have two of these monitors and I tried swapping cables between them, but the problem is in the monitor. The computer still thinks the monitor is on and I can navigate my mouse there to pause/play videos, but no picture is displayed. Idk what to do. I opened it up, but everything seems ok to my unprofessional eye

Sounds like a back light issue mate. Same thing happens to tvs. The power going from the board to the back lights is only working intimitantly I reckon... but I could be wrong.

My u2711's lights went out recently and I heard you say that they weren't backlit ? Are they just not LED backlit or not backlit at all ? If there is backlighting, am I any chance of getting replacement ? And removal re-fitting instructions ? Or if you a Melbournite are you interested in doing the job or know someone that might ? I've loved this monitor and would like to have it repaired................Gerry

Sorry to here that mate. No I'm not local sorry, plus I wouldn't feel comfortable I'm afraid. Backlights going out is normally a power board issue on this monitor. They are not LEDs, they are tiny thin fluro tubes. I think the term is CCFL backlights? What tvs used to be. Very unlikely to be a bulb issue, but possible. More likely to be a power board problem. So unless you can find someone who can repair the board you will need to get a replacement and do the same thing as I've done in the video. But your probably better off just finding a used monitor I think if you love the model so much. But agreed, it's an awesome monitor. Even today it still holds its own 👍
