this is why i love computer monitors. while tvs get bigger and bigger, they do nothing about resolution, but as monitors get bigger, they crank up the resolution loads. its great
This has got to be the best unboxing video I have seen in ages! I must give you credit, Elric, for a very intuitive and creative new style of videos. Well done! It was hilarious!
You said you weren't going to use the DVI that was packaged with the device. Is that because there's a quality difference between plating/hdmi/dvi, or is it a preference thing?
I've had this monitor since June 2011. It's great, I power this monitor with two Radeon HD 6950's in crossfire. Looking now to upgrade to either two GTX 680's or a GTX 690 if I can find one in stock.
@TalesOfWar I'm 95% certain I've read in the instruction manual that the HDMI port on the back of the monitor will not support resolution any higher than 1920*1080. And I tried with a 1.4a cable powered by my overclocked 6970, 1920*1080 is the highest you can achieve with hdmi on this particular display. There's a reason why they have the dual link DVI hooked up when you open the box.
I hope you don't plan to use the HDMI ports because you will not be able to use 2560*1600 on anything else but the DVI ports. HDMI will only allow you to use (insert resolution I can't remember here) * 1080. I actually own one of these and my only complaints are: I needed to recalibrate my monitor on arrival because it was very off and the monitor actually takes a long time to "boot up" and show images but after it's up and running it is a complete joy. I couldn't live without it.
You seem to always Get excited about "Disply port" .. but i dont really know what that is ... Would it be possible to do a Explination video and Tell us why it is beter then HDMI if it is beater
@TheDarkIn1978 "DisplayPort is a digital display interface standard produced by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). The specification defines a royalty-free digital interconnect for audio and video. The interface is primarily used to connect a video source to a display device such as a computer monitor or television set." It isn't an "Apple proprietary cable", they were just the first to start using it on their machines. Like USB and SATA back in the day.
you're one of the few reasons that makes me go to youtube. if it possible with every unboxing you could actually turn it on , so we could see it in action .
@ShadowwwLFS You can daisy chain DisplayPort too. You can run 4 1920 x 1200 monitors from one cable and port with audio on each. Assuming the GPU can power than many displays at once of course.
i am very surprise when i hear you describing the monitor..... as i do sell this monitor and some info is wrong.... response time is 7ms GTG including cable is DP cable not HDMI this monitor is not mainly for gaming but for professional that requires color accuracy and high resolution (this later reason is more or less for gaming.) and that is no regular DVI cable. that is a dual link DVI cable. use a normal DVI cable and you wont see 2560x1600
Hey Eric how far away is this monitor from your face ? i was planning to buy one but my table is only 28inches long , does your eyes hurts since your are so close to your face ?
I don't understand how the monitor can pass the connectivity of all the ports through to the computer. When you use the card reader how does the moniter pass the info to the computer?? through the dvi cable?? Answer would be appreciated, thanks
@Napalm13092 Care to find a cheaper 30" IPS panel? Usually all monitors bigger than 24" and cheaper than this thing are shitty TN's which make your eyes bleed.
@Napalm13092 It is priced that way because this screen uses the IPS panel, which is by far the most accurate for color reproduction. Most monitors use TN panels which are much cheaper and not nearly the same quality. For people that do a ton of graphic design or video editing the more accurate color reproduction you can get the better.
@JeemOfRunescape you should try get your hands on 23inch 120hz LCD monitor. from what i know CS player wants it for the refresh rate and professional CS gamer has already moved on to this 120hz LCD
LED is the back light, Old flat-screen TV's = LCD + CCFL. New flat-screen TV's = LCD + LED, you can have CCFL (those tubes) or LED. CCFL is better because it allows for a wider color gamut but LED uses less energy. This one uses CCFL.
@cojeapetru just viewed the video in 1080p. i am very by the shape and the size of the plastic grip (there is a hinge you can push down when you wan to remove it from the power) that is definitely a DP cable
My new DELL U2412M looks pretty much exactly the same, but difference is its 24" and has "only" 1920x1200. Got it for 230 bucks, german power ftw. Dell Ultrasharp's new e-IPS panels are really owning it up, much better then comparable Asus or Acer-panels. TTTT , together to the top.
Just so you all know: the bottom of the two USB ports will provide the devices connected to it with a little bit more power, which makes it perfect for charging your smartphone or tablet, since they will charge faster.
@snipekill2445 Fair enough. Many people suggest using a TV as a monitor and seem to miss the point of resolution and the whole "this is made for watching from 10 foot away" thing.
@Perfectguns89 With HDMI you'd need a 1.4 cable and 1.4 source to push this resolution. I high recommend DisplayPort on this kind of display and resolution if your GPU has it.
@TalesOfWar i do agree that the only dell branded product you should ever consider buying is a monitor but even with them their are far better choices at better prices from competitors and my older Dell monitor had ghosting issues just saying
hey elric a couple things that were incorrect but i thought i share it with you and everyone. That monitor has a V.E.S.A mount on the back and its 7ms gtg response time. i loved it you showing love to all mexican people and those of us that have the mexican blood pumping through our veins!!!!
Hey Elric or anybody in here, what is the best monitor brand out there? Don't tell me your opinion, but tell my why is it the best brand. And whats the best way to hook up this monitor and why? DVI or display port? And is there a monitor out there that's beyond 1080p and it supports 3D? And btw, does DVI or display port support 3D, or only HDMI 1.4? And I also read that HDMI 1.4 can go beyond 1080p, is that true? And if its true, which one is better HDMI 1.4 or display port 1.2 or DVI?
Possibly right about the gaming part but the u3011 is one of the top 5 IPS panels around if not THE best IPS panel. It has 7ms not 5ms as mentioned in the video and 60Hz which for professional gaming and more so for FPS competitive scene is simply not enough + the size of it as you mentioned. Other then that, brilliant monitor and for general gaming its amazing eyegasm.
@MrMohaimn You answer your own question buddy you cant compare a 27'' 1920X1080 Monitor against the Dell 30'' its apples and oranges as far as resolution and size...
@sk8andgame I bought one for $1,215 on eBay. There are a few sellers that are offering them. Some of the sellers just have the item drop shipped from Dell. You can save a lot by getting the monitor from eBay, rather than directly from Dell and you still the exact same Dell support.
I have a Samsung 243t 24" monitor with 25ms response time the kids were I work tell me I can't use it on my Xbox 360 or as gaming monitor because it is so old - but guess what I use my Samsung 243t 24" monitor with 25ms response time on Deus EX, RACE 07, Race Injection, Richard Burns Rally, Rayman Origins, Portal 1 and 2,, WRC 2, Dirt 3, Grid, F1 2011 and Project CARS in a word NO, but depending on the monitor if is TN type of monitor there a newer e-ips such as Dell U2311HM at around $320
@alterbr33d Those are batshit expensive though (for example, EIZO RadiForce 56" with resolution of 3840x2160 costs $40 000). Cheaper to get four of those (Dell U3011) monitors for 7 times lower price and put them in 2x2 square.

wt u think of Dell ultra sharp U2410 coz its cheeper then ur monitor and smaller coz i don't want big screen i hate it for gaming its like too big any way i just want ur opinion if u ever saw 1 or used if u think its good for gaming and watching movies :D
Wow 2560 x 1600? thats impressive. Expensive im guessing but my 1920 x 1080 plasma 42" is great for me for now :D but i would love one of these. Be careful with that stand Elric though, it maybe me but it seems very flimsy but other than that its epic.

@themetalgod50 There is DVI port on this monitor, there's just no DVI cable included in the box.
We are almost 2013 and nothing beats this monster, just amazing.
This has got to be the best unboxing video I have seen in ages! I must give you credit, Elric, for a very intuitive and creative new style of videos. Well done! It was hilarious!
@Hokrollo1 VGA is 2048x1536 actually.
Haha, the beginning was pretty funny. That's a badass monitor too. Nice unboxing!
@To0t Dell U2211H is 21.5" and it's 1920x1080.
Hey how is the testing of the 212 EVO going? Eager to see what that is like :)
You said you weren't going to use the DVI that was packaged with the device. Is that because there's a quality difference between plating/hdmi/dvi, or is it a preference thing?
You made a mistake in your unboxing: the back is a VESA standard 100mm. I have one mounted right now on an Ergotron MX arm. Works great on an arm.
I've had this monitor since June 2011. It's great, I power this monitor with two Radeon HD 6950's in crossfire. Looking now to upgrade to either two GTX 680's or a GTX 690 if I can find one in stock.

@T3chnoJunk13 Its the ability to do the High resolution, no other PC monitor has this resolution...
My Dell 3008 i got DVI duallink and DisplayPort cable...and maybe the blue vga, but now hdmi i think.
It's long time ago...
In plane Switching....nice. How does it go? Next review please...
Nice monitor, got myself the U2711 a few weeks ago, I am loving it.
I hope you don't plan to use the HDMI ports because you will not be able to use 2560*1600 on anything else but the DVI ports. How much GTX 580's does one needs to run Crysis 2 maxed out on this 2560x1600 piece of awesomeness? D:
@Costerguy1234556 Dell U3008 was 2560x1600 too and it appeared back in 2008.
not a single dead pixel on my Q270 SE. absolutely lovely monitor!!
These intros get better and better ahahah :P
@ShadowwwLFS You can daisy chain DisplayPort too. You can run 4 1920 x 1200 monitors from one cable and port with audio on each. Assuming the GPU can power than many displays at once of course.
@motherboardsorg Thats why i love your channel, it makes the reviews and unboxing all the more enjoyable! :) Love you dude! Keep up the good work! :)
Thanx for the video man you realy good one of the best Unboxings on youtube.

Around how much would this monitor cost? I would like to be able to get this for bf3 and play on ultra with this amazing resolution!
@DeanGetYourWings Those stands are sturdy as anything. The arm is made of metal and so in the base, it just has a plastic cover over the structure.
@Redmondo79 We are working on that video using the BETA right now..
Hey Eric how far away is this monitor from your face ? i was planning to buy one but my table is only 28inches long , does your eyes hurts since your are so close to your face ?

Buddy u r funny :) Always like your reviews.
@Hahnck750i That and LCD's don't shoot light into your eyes like CRT's do with the lasers being fired at the glass, so it's less harsh on your eyes.
It comes with the base per-assembled... that's unusual!
@JeemOfRunescape you should try get your hands on 23inch 120hz LCD monitor. from what i know CS player wants it for the refresh rate and professional CS gamer has already moved on to this 120hz LCD

@GamerAndReviewer its worth it if you see its definition up close and the color definition. look up ips vs tn panels
lol you always do something new and funny :D
yeah the Q270 is a cool monitor, I am in love with mine
@MrMohaimn 7ms is great for gaming, only up to 12 ms there is ghosting noticable when gaming in a fast fps game.
@TalesOfWar i do agree that the only dell branded product you should ever consider buying is a monitor but even with them their are far better choices at better prices from competitors and my older Dell monitor had ghosting issues just saying
@smoke1877 Is there any use for 120 Hz except for 3D gaming? Nope.
hello this is maybe off topic but do you knwo what is the best case to fit a 120.3 rad inside?
Do you work for Dell Marketing? I have seen your comments on like 4 u3011 videos :3 Its cool though, just asking.
hey elric a couple things that were incorrect but i thought i share it with you and everyone. That monitor has a V.E.S.A mount on the back and its 7ms gtg response time. i loved it you showing love to all mexican people and those of us that have the mexican blood pumping through our veins!!!!
@T3chnoJunk13 Only sweet 27" monitor out in the wild (Dell U2711) is just $500 cheaper. No way you can get 2 GTX 580's for just $500.
Hi,need some help in this as i'm getting this soon.Does this monitor has an audio out?
Hey Elric or anybody in here, what is the best monitor brand out there? Don't tell me your opinion, but tell my why is it the best brand. And whats the best way to hook up this monitor and why? I have this monitor, and I love it! Especially the INSANE resolutions it can go up to :D
@kgotter is it ips panel or tn because tn panel is cheap and bad and doesnt display true colors, this 30 inch here is a 2560x1600 ips monitor
@MrMohaimn You answer your own question buddy you cant compare a 27'' 1920X1080 Monitor against the Dell 30'' its apples and oranges as far as resolution and size...
Wish I had the money to upgrade to this. I'm using the U2311H.
sup!!! what knife is that????? cool monitor
@UnbOuNdPWneR1 yes but that 50" is still a 1920x1080 resolution that is stretched to fit the screen. that's 1/2 the quality.
@motherboardsorg Are you sure that's an HDMI cable? My U3011 came with a DisplayPort cable, but no HDMI.
elric can i have the DVI cable? i'm still using a VGA cuz my DVI cable was broken when i got it :(
Love your intros man. Keep it up
HAHAHAHA love the intro :) Great unboxing!
is that really a HDMI cable.... as i know that is a display port on the bundle......
Love your random intro's!
lol at the Mars II in the junk pile. You make your videos interesting and clever.
I have the Dell Ultra Sharp 27 and its awesome. Worth every cent of $1100.
LOL funny intro. Elric your the best.
whys the kingston 240 ssd in the junk pile when you just put out a video saying how good it is?
is there a big differance between this monitor and the dell U2711? or is it just the size?
@sk8andgame I bought one for $1,215 on eBay. There are a few sellers that are offering them. Some of the sellers just have the item drop shipped from Dell. You can save a lot by getting the monitor from eBay, rather than directly from Dell and you still the exact same Dell support.
what is the different between Display port and DVI??
In my country this monitor is 950 euro ad the u2711 is 550 euro which should I buy? Is the Dell u3011 that much better?? Thanks in advance :))
lol your supposed to pull the white tabs on the box and slide the top half off
hahahaha elric that intro was the best !!
damn that milliseconds, i would get it as it was from 5ms too 1ms.. but 7 is a bit too long for me.
this monitor is the best monitor for gaming ! i have the u 2711 that is the 27'' vertion of this 1 ! i love it !
I have a Samsung 243t 24" monitor with 25ms response time the kids were I work tell me I can't use it on my Xbox 360 or as gaming monitor because it is so old - but guess what I use my Samsung 243t 24" monitor with 25ms response time on Deus EX, RACE 07, Race Injection, Richard Burns Rally, Rayman Origins, Portal 1 and 2,, WRC 2, Dirt 3, Grid, F1 2011 and Project CARS
in a word NO, but depending on the monitor if is TN type of monitor there a newer e-ips such as Dell U2311HM at around $320
@alterbr33d Those are batshit expensive though (for example, EIZO RadiForce 56" with resolution of 3840x2160 costs $40 000). Cheaper to get four of those (Dell U3011) monitors for 7 times lower price and put them in 2x2 square.

@cojeapetru Dude there is no clear picture of that cable he just take a glimpse of it. Elric please confirm this for us.
if he is buying under DELL USA or CANADA. DP cable part of the standard package. i have yet to see any country that includes HDMI instead of DP for that monitor as HDMI can't drive the resolution up to 2560x1600 (unless it's HDMI 1.4a which is not what comes with the monitor) only DP and dual link DVI can handle that resolution. @Hokrollo1 no it doesn't.
what's the best cable settings i could use for 3 of those linked together
wt u think of Dell ultra sharp U2410 coz its cheeper then ur monitor and smaller coz i don't want big screen i hate it for gaming its like too big any way i just want ur opinion if u ever saw 1 or used if u think its good for gaming and watching movies :D
awsome monitor for gaming and movies,i am looking forward to buy thet bad boy
Wow 2560 x 1600? thats impressive. Expensive im guessing but my 1920 x 1080 plasma 42" is great for me for now :D but i would love one of these. Be careful with that stand Elric though, it maybe me but it seems very flimsy but other than that its epic.

@motherboardsorg So psyched you did this review I've been eyeballing this monitor, for like 2 months. Probably getting it at tax time this year. haha
gonna be getting 2 of these to add onto my existing samsung 305t+
I can't wait to have 3x 2560x1600. Only gonna game on one though, my 7970 is only gonna power 1 2560x1600 display.
I love 16:10
27" monitors = 250
buy 5 of those for the price of one of these
5 screen = 135"
problem?
