"Don't kill when you do not need to." seems to be the moral of the story. [Arthur Brown's 'Fire' song, chickens called 'Hector' on a crucifix about to be roasted saved at the last moment, and an awareness of murder group activities & arrangements being proximate to an understanding of the vignette.]
Basically, he was watching a show at Glastonbury in 1971 by Arthur Brown. Onstage, as part of Arthur’s crew, a guy was walking around with a pet rooster on his shoulder, named Hector. Everyone knew the Rooster’s name, bc it was a small crowd/gig. As part of the show, roadies were trying to light a giant Crucifix on stage on fire, which Hector had flown up on to, but the roadies didn’t see Hector. The crowd screamed to stop until finally, at the last minute, they did and Hector was saved. After, as the guy walked back out with Hector safely on his shoulder again, Arthur Brown told the crowd, “I want you to think of that the next time you have some Kentucky Fried Chicken…”, and Joe had a kind of revelation, realizing that even though it tries to disconnect you from the animals as if you are just consuming a product, the meat industry is serving up animals that all could be just like Hector the Rooster, but were farmed instead. So essentially, if he cared so much this one time about an animal that was possibly about to be burned and killed, how could he go on to just casually eat one in the future as if it was nothing? Because the killing didn’t happen in front of him? Because it didn’t have a name? Joe felt it was hypocritical, and after that day, didn’t eat meat anymore. Don’t know if you’ll see this since ifs an old comment, but wanted to try and help…maybe future viewers w/ similar issues can use google translate or something with my comment to help, haha
