By the way Tim not doing the bass in this...Chance pulled the whole bass....you kinda overlooked him :( But this arrangement with a soft R&B rythym vibe is awesome
@@bobcieslinski No Chance was the bass at his last gig - Street Corner Symphony - which took 3rd place the same year that Pentatonix won, & that Peter Hollens was with another group. Chris Rupp of Home Free decided to leave in May of 2016 & Adam Chance was picked to replace him.
You should react to Home Free's Do You Hear What I Hear. It was arranged by Adam the beat boxer. It is an older video and has Adam's brother Chris in it. Later Chris left and was replaced by Chance. But the arrangement of this song is unmatched by any other group. Distinctive!
The guys in Home Free were asked how they collaborated with Adam about his beat boxing when preparing for their songs, they said they didn't, they let him do his own thing. He intuitively knows what each song needs. There are songs where he sings instead of beat boxing, "How Great Thou Art" and "Helplessly Hoping" are two for starters. Absolutely loved your reaction, looking forward to more, especially Home Free. Blessings always and a very Merry Christmas!
Love your reaction Bob. Yes, everything you said was spot on. The arrangement is so good and it’s so different. I love that they used Adam’s beatboxing in this. I noticed the boys were kind of swaying to the beat too. I think It’s Chance (left in the picture) who did the growl. He’s the baritone/bass and will do bass while Tim is singing. I’m so glad you heard it because not many reactors do or comment on it. It’s amazing. If you want to hear more of Tim’s bass try Brothers in Arms (no beatboxing in it though) and you might want to hear more of Chance’s bass in I Can’t Outrun You….it’s wonderful. Good analysis and I subscribed. Have a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks Baby Fry for thr kind words! So glad you are enjoying these and Home Free keeps putting out hit after hit. I’m having so much fun checking these out.
It is my suspicion that dropping bass growl you were noticing was actually done by the beatboxer, Adam. I've heard him make that exact same sound in his beatboxing solos on stage at concerts. The rest of the bass was done by Chance.
Adam Rupp is really actually a tenor - and Tim is singing baritone/tenor for most of this song. I think the drop may have been Chance although it could be a layer of Tim in production. But I think it's Chance because Tim sings the last words of the song over the bass growl at the end. Chance is too often overlooked - he's a great bass in his own right and has a delightful vocal quality. Chris was great, but Chance's addition to the group really spurred their creativity and allowed them to explore new sounds and music that was previously closed to them.
@@terrycassis1864 Actually, Adam Rupp's range is quite extended, as arnieadam mentioned above. Bob, those amazing bass sounds are from Chance. He & Adam made this beautiful version even more spectacular with their background! This is my favorite version EVER! Merry Christmas!
Beautiful song, made for these guys. Love the perfect harmonies of Home Free. The beginning of Tim is so beautiful. Someone once compared it to dark liquid chocolate, fantastic. It's also always fascinating how the guys can switch roles. Chance is great with his bass line. And Adam's beatboxing is out of this world.
If you really want to hear a treat go to Tim's Faust Music Channel on UA-cam recently-released a doo-wop solo where he is singing all the parts to( Come go with me ) he goes from way down deep in the basement to way up high and everywhere in between
Home Free was very fortunate to have found Adam Chance to join their group. His experience with bass in his previous group has helped to mold and change Home Free's ability to expand their talents. Tim now has more leads and baritone solos too. Adam Chance can do it all as well and did a great job singing the baseline in this song.
How do you do this without someone like Tim? I was a barbershop (chorus) bass, and I can still reach a lot of those notes, but not fat and clean like that. I guess you could do a mixed group in a higher key, but the male-female blend just isn't the same.
Yep so right. I sang some barbershop in college. Couldn’t do low clean notes like that now. Too many years singing to first graders in their voice to model it.
I'm sure others have mentioned about the bass drop being either Chance who is a 4 octave range star in his own right. He was the bass in his last group. The other possibility that has been brought up is that Adam can make those kinds of sounds too. He does something like it in a few of his beatboxing videos. Please go back about 5 seconds when you restart the video. It gives continuity. Beside that, I enjoyed your reaction. I like learning about the music; it helps me appreciate a spectacular group like Home Free even more when I know what they're doing. Nice job.
The deep bass growl is something else Adam can do (And so can Chance. Oh, and Tim, too). Check out the end of their collaboration with Peter Hollens on U2's Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.
I usually listen exclusively to your PTX reactions but I saw Mary Did You Know. It is one of my favorites ❤ Thank you introducing me to Home Free. What an awesome group. As usual a stellar reaction.
Home Free is a fabulous group...I was never a big fan of a cappella in the past, but these guys came into my life in April and not a day goes by without some Home Free. PTX and VoicePlay are also good, but Home Free has the ability to fill all the empty spaces in the music and my heart. It would be great if you reacted to some of their other pieces, like Helplessly Hoping, Go Rest High On That Mountain and End of the Road. If you're into humor, check out Story Time with Tim, particularly Watch Me Whip Nae Nae. Enjoyed your reaction very much, so I subbed and look forward to seeing more of you and Home Free.

Everyone else got a shoutout, especially Adam, who you seem to be "fan-girling" over for his talent. Not cool, and doesn't deserve a thumbs up from me. Will move on to more invested reactors.
They did an incredible job on the song!! Since you’re starting Christmas listen to their collaboration of beautiful star of Bethlehem with the Oak Ridge boys and Jeffrey East! Also listen to the funny ones like cold hard cash and grandma got run over by a reindeer! My favorite of all there is is I’ll be home for Christmas or Rob takes the lead! Nice reaction!!

really liked your reaction and perspective on the set up and singing of this song but: I don't think you gave Chance near the credit that he deserves for carrying the bass in the arrangement. New Sub here.. see you next yeat!.. btw. check out Auld Lang Syne... Home Free does an absolutely Fabulous cover of that one!!
Never, ever liked Christmas music except for one song, All I Want For Christmas Is You by Vince Vance and the Valiants, until hearing Mary did You Know which blew me away and Grandma Got Run Over by A Reindeer and I laughed so hard at them and their antics. These guys are just heads above everyone else in this field.
Just think, they have five guys that can sing tenor. Two bass guys. All of them can do instrument sounds and they have the greatest beatboxer in a cappella music. Check out the instrumental interlude in their cover of Can't Stop the Feeling. Listen to Tim's trumpet imitation in the opening of Thinking Out Loud or Adams harmonica solo in Man of Constant Sorrow (or Working for a living). Austin's strumming banjo in Flowers on the wall. Guitar sounds in Hillbilly Bone and who knows how many other tunes. They are a step above the rest. Even if we're just talking vocals.
I never really enjoyed this song. Whenever I had to sing it, I was forced to suck it up. Then my favorite group, Home Free, does this arrangement, and can't get enough of it. Thank you for your analysis.
Thank you! Love your reactions. Home Free is special for their own talent, but then you add the incredible arranger that produces their music, Darrin Rust (from the Blenders) who they say oftentimes sings every part ahead and presents it to them to see how he thinks it might sound, then wow, we are truly blessed! Home Free helps keep me sane. Just play them over and over every single day for the past what, 6--8 years, whenever the Sing Off was! Been to six live shows and cannot wait for the next one when post-COVID possible here in the NW. Love these special guys who are so great to their fans. It's part of why we are so super loyal to them. Take care!
Bob, listen to it in stereo; the vid is in mono. In my LR, it's the difference of being between the speakers(still good), and being enveloped by the music. Much nicer.
This is such a great song. You may not want to do them bac-to-back, but if you want to hear two other equally moving arrangements of this song by premiere a capella groups, you should try the rendition by Pentatonix and Voctave. Voctave one is led by one of the composers of the song, Mark Lawry.
The thing about Home Free is their synergy. Every one of these men is a wonderful singer - but together they are so much more. Their voices not only blend musically, but they make each other sound even better. There is nothing on earth like these men. I thank God that I have lived long enough to hear these men sing. If you haven't done so yet, check out Do You Hear What I Hear. Adam arranged it. Best arrangement of this hymn on the planet.

New Sub here.. see you next yeat!.. btw. check out Auld Lang Syne... Home Free does an absolutely Fabulous cover of that one!!
Thanks for thr kind words Sally and for also subbing! I’ll add your suggestions to the list.
For some fun try butts medley, 9 to 5, All About that Bass, and working for a living. A live performance called Guilty Pleasures derailed
Sounds good to me I’ll add those. Thanks Ann!
❤❤
Never, ever liked Christmas music except for one song, All I Want For Christmas Is You by Vince Vance and the Valiants, until hearing Mary did You Know which blew me away and Grandma Got Run Over by A Reindeer and I laughed so hard at them and their antics. These guys are just heads above everyone else in this field.
This is a great song Sherry and Home Free are sooo good.
Thanks for the great info and suggestions William! I just finished up Man of Constant Sorrow. I hope you check it out when it comes out. Thanks!
I never really enjoyed this song. Whenever I had to sing it, I was forced to suck it up. Then my favorite group, Home Free, does this arrangement, and can't get enough of it. Thank you for your analysis.
Thanks Betty I appreciate your comments.
Take care!
Thanks for thr comments and kind words Connie.
I love your reaction videos. Especially of Homefree. I like how you call attention to the individual parts they sing.
Thanks Lisa I appreciate the kind words!
Bob, listen to it in stereo; the vid is in mono. In my LR, it's the difference of being between the speakers(still good), and being enveloped by the music. Much nicer.
Thanks I’ll give it a try!
Great reaction!
This is such a great song. You may not want to do them bac-to-back, but if you want to hear two other equally moving arrangements of this song by premiere a capella groups, you should try the rendition by Pentatonix and Voctave. Voctave one is led by one of the composers of the song, Mark Lawry.
Thanks Alan for thr great suggestions. I’ll check them out.
The Home Free is on of the most awesome and pure singing style that is what's makes them one of the finest performing group around today ❤❤❤
Yep I agree. They are awesome in concert.
Thanks GaiaOne for the great comments. They really are great and I am enjoying listening to them. I’ll check out your suggestion thanks!
Chill bumps everytime I hear this
👍❤🎄🎇 Loved it!!
I absolutely love Home Free! If you like this listen to Pentatonx . I think you will like their version. It so beautiful.
I’m interested. You always have a great suggestions Dixie! Thanks!
