Home Free has reached a new high, their vocals, this arrangement, everything just perfect !!! Also Home Free has their own record label and they encourage reactors to they are never blocked. Thanks for a great reaction.
I love Pentatonix but honestly no one compares to Home Free. I don’t mean any disrespect to Pentatonix. I just believe Home Free is beyond great talent. They’re on a playing field all their own.
You really can't compare the versions because they are so very different. I love the smooth R&B spin Home Free puts on it. It's easy to listen to over and over. Adam's beatboxing is epic and Chance does a fabulous job taking over the Bass role.
Beautiful song, made for these guys. Love the perfect harmonies of Home Free. The beginning of Tim is so beautiful. Someone once compared it to dark liquid chocolate, fantastic. It's also always fascinating how the guys can switch roles. Chance is great with his bass line. And Adam's beatboxing is out of this world. Good reaction, thanks for that!
You mentioned in a previous reaction that it looked like fun making the video. Home Free has a series "From the Vault" - the behind the scenes filming of their videos. I think the people making those videos must feel that they're herding stray cats! If you want a change of pace in Christmas music, you could watch "Cold Hard Cash" (co-written by Austin), "Full of Cheer" or "Snow globe" (both written by Tim).
Adam Chance was carrying the bass in this, though there's a debate about whether that bass growl is Adam Rupp the beatboxer or Adam Chance the baritone. Either one of them can do it. We're just not sure who did it here.
THE ARRANGEMENT, POWER, PERFECTION OF HARMONIES, STRENGTH ON SYNCHRONIZATION alone is SUPERIOR to any .... and if you are going question the set and grass ... I have to say I am not thrilled with the criteria used ! GBjj
Love the title to this one. 'We wouldn't compare but . . . ' It would be best not to. There are some Pentaholics that would flame you saying Home Free is better. And you would be killed by Home Fries saying PTX is better. It is best to realize they are different styles. Good reaction guys. 😀
The original recording of "Mary Did You Know" was done by Michael English in 1991. The song's lyrics were written by Mark Lowry, Michael's fellow Gaither Vocal Band member and friend, and the music was written by Buddy Greene, a musician traveling with the GVB.
Home Free's version really hit a much more R&B vibe with Adams beat-box more so than drums. It really was a very different arrangement. I'm sure they were like, ok if we're gonna arrange this song, years after the epic PTX arrangement, what can we do that's new and different and fresh. And they nailed it. Ultimately this is not to glorify any singing group, rather Christ Himself. So any new arrangement and lifting up of Him is wonderful! Some will surely resonate more with folks than others. Great video reaction guys! Well done.
Adam’s sound is somewhat like a high “tom tom” with a little electronic filtering. It’s a superb way to make the song a bit more of a crossover song which different “younger” audiences will appreciate.
I love this. You don’t have to compare. You can enjoy both. I love Home Free’s harmonies. And Adam’s beatboxing is amazing. I love the serenity of this setting. Just the manger and the Star of Bethlehem…so pretty. Well done. Have a very Merry Christmas!! 😍
Actually Austin is from Georgia and when they met him he had worked very hard to lose his southern accent. When he joined HF they asked him to get it back. Rob and Adam are from Minnesota, Tim is from Southeast Texas, Chance is from Alabama and Austin is from Georgia.
It’s no instruments at all in this video. Watch Adam Rupp drum solo..WOW he is amazing with his drum solo and beatboxing! ITS A MUST WATCH lol This is a beautiful song amazing harmonies and beatboxing! Great reaction! I love Home Free😊
Austin is from Georgia and Tim from Texas, both southern states with southern accents. Chance grew up in Alabama which is also a southern state and he speaks with a southern accent too but he lives in California now and Austin does have the biggest accent in the group so some can't understand him as well unless you live in the south (like me) and can understand that type of diction.
Another Southerner (from southeast Tennessee) here! I think they "tawk" & "sang" just fine! You can hear the South more when Austin talks but not as much when he sings (except when he's trying to sound Southern in "Man of Constant Sorrow"), but it seems to be the opposite with Tim sometimes. Merry Christmas, my Home Fry "friend"!
I like both versions. The PTX one is more dramatic and, of course, stunning. HF's is a little warmer, more intimate sounding. But the BEST is Voctave's version featuring Mark Lowery (he wrote the lyrics). I only recently heard it, and now realize the difference it makes when a singer truly believes the words with his whole heart and soul.
Great reaction guys! Did you mean being surprised when TIM sings high because Rob, with glasses & beard, is their tenor, not bass. Tim is the one who started the song & he's their bass singer with a 5+ octave range. He can sing anything! Also, Chance is making some of the "strange noises" doing the bass part. By the way, Tim is from South Texas, Austin is from South Georgia (Tifton) & Chance is from South Alabama! This is the most incredible version of this song that I've ever heard. It's warm with the simple background & the focus is on the message of the song & not how high or low they can sing or how many vocal runs they can do! I LOVE THIS! You guys have a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
The THREE REGISTER VOICE OF "bassist" TIM FOUST is off the charts great ...... add his lead and LOW as ya go talent - Rob sweet smooth Tenor ... and jump up to Austin in the stratosphere High Tenor - Adam Rupp beat boxing - Chance Baritone / Bass as needed JUST GREAT ... far better than Pentatonix which is good !
TIM - TEXAS / AUSTIN - Georgia / Chance - Alabama / Rob & Adam are from Minnesota ... none are close to another ! { America proper is almost 3000 miles BY 2000 miles ..... so 50 states do make for a stretch in travel / culture ! GBjj
I'm pretty sure he is too! If you watch his throat when that strange, I call it a "sucking noise" 😁 or "jaw harp" happens, you can tell it's Chance! Merry Christmas & I hope we ALL have a Happier New Year!
Mary did you know that your baby boy will become a god?? And definetely you yourself will become : a GOD'S MOTHER. or a MOTHER GOD. (Were those English???) (Or we're all dumb???)
There are 2 types of copyrights when it comes to youtube videos. You have audio claims and video claims. These claims are a big reason why reactors pause their videos. With audio, it’s hard to work around, but with video claims there are ways to work around the claim which means adjusting the video from it’s original form, in this case putting text over the video. As I only react to music related videos, for me, the audio has priority over the video, so I don’t adjust the audio except for a little volume reduction sometimes. With video, I do my best to work around the claim whilst still having the video partially visible. It depends on how strict the claim is. I hope this is a valid answer to your question? 🙂
Musically Pentatonix is beautiful; but it doesn't really fit the mood of the lyrics. Home Free is more somber fitting the lyrics better. It's a prelude to the crucifixion. It's not supposed to be bright.
You need to rewatch some of Home Free Rob never sings Bass he is a true tenor Tim has a 5 octave range Chace has a 4 octave range so you need to review some us home fries pay attention

Agreed!
I think the same😃
I agree totally. Home Free's individual voices just sound so different but blend sooooo great together. I'm obsessed with them!!
Eeeee
Tracy Morrison, hahahahaha…..eeeee?

If you haven’t yet, definitely do their version of “Do You Hear What I Hear”, it’s jaw dropping
If you would like to hear a very different arrangement of a Christmas song by Home Free, I would suggest “Do You Hear What I Hear?”.
Thx for the suggestion Anita! Though, for this year I already have all my x-mas reactions recorded and planned😅 perhaps in a future video on them😉
@@YBPlaysMusic oh, sure. I just wanted to give you a variety.
@@anitapaulus937 I'm with you Anita, that is one of their best; out of an array of fantastic lol.
@@lynnriddell9632 I'm gonna agree with you both. That one is the most incredible & impressive! Adam did a fantastic job with that arrangement! 🥰
What Child Is This is an amazing song! It's on Chris Rupp's UA-cam channel and includes all SIX of the guys! It's Amazing! 💕
Home Free is absolutely a freak of nature! Nobody compares
I love this more every time I hear it ❤️ Thanks!
That was great! They never disappoint.

They killed this♡
Adam is making some kind drum equipment sound. Got this from a drummer who explained it…I’m not a drummer….all I do is appreciate his talent 🥰‼️🔥

Do You Hear What I Hear you may do any time of the year. The arrangement is insane and video is striking. I listen to it almost every day.

Thank you so much!
Chance is an EXCELLENT bass... in Brothers in Arms, if you listen carefully, you'll hear Chance & Tim sing the bass line together at times.
CHILL BUMPS
Don't like to compare but I like Home Free's better

You would probably enjoy their latest video, "What Christmas Means to Me."
It's so funny! 😂
Definitely a must see!

My 3 favorites are in order:

2. Home Free
3. PTX
Check out Adam’s beatbox solo an also Tim’s new Doo Wop album, it all Tim

Pentatonic had the advantage with the sound of a cave but love Homefrees rendition as well.
Well, ptx did sounded a bit more like it was in a cave, but you do know both versions are pre-recorded, right?
Nope, it's Adam making it with his mouth, you can see if you watch carefully.

The video is in mono. Stream the song, it's in stereo, and much better. Right in front of you, verses enveloping you.
I could be wrong but I thought Chance was doing the throat noises that sounds like the mouth harp. someone correct if I'm wrong.
I'm pretty sure he is too! If you watch his throat when that strange, I call it a "sucking noise" 😁 or "jaw harp" happens, you can tell it's Chance! Merry Christmas & I hope we ALL have a Happier New Year!
Do a reaction to Mayday by Home Free. Tim will shock you!!!
For me it is Mary Did You Know
1. Voctave with Mark Lowry (the lyrisist and cowriter of the song)
2. Home Free
3. Pentatonix
4. Peter Hollens
Mary did you know that your baby boy will become a god??
And definetely you yourself will become :
a GOD'S MOTHER.

I have listened to both and PTX is better, cleaner , crispy and harmonically easier on the ears.
Sorry. This is really great. But the arrangements belong to Pentatonix
