this *IS* a masterpiece, well at least to my amatuer ears. The harmonies are off the charts, and I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a better 5-part harmony than this one. Some people dismiss Home Free as "country bumpkins" but this proves these guys are serious artists & are truly professional vocal artists. This is a cover of a Dire Straits 1985 hit, written by Mark Knopfler, to memorialize the more than 600 British Royal Marines, Royal Navy & Royal Army troops that lost their lives in the 1982 Falklands War between the UK & Argentina
A great tribute to all soldiers, fire fighters, policeman all over the world. To the ones that are serving their country, that have lost some "brothers" and to the family of falling men. Don't take for granted what they do cause most of them come back "broken". Tim with his low bass voice throws this song right in your face. My friend (a soldier) came back with PTSD. I keep all soldiers, fire fighters, policemen in my heart no matter were they are or in which country they live. I salute you all. Great song that is even more greater sung and with the clip so lively, Well done Home Free.
This song touched my heart and my soul! I have never seen war or the death of war. But the lyrics and the amazing harmony of Home Free , lift me to the misty farmlands and the deep cold valleys where our soldiers have taken rest. America please pray!
This is actually a cover of a cover. This is a cover by Club For Five, Finnish A Capella group. This is their five part harmony arrangement. Tim asked Tuukka, their bass for the arrangement and he sent it to them. Tuukka highly praised it, and said the echo sequences Home Free added were wonderful.
This song makes me cry Every time I hear it, their voices just touch you deep inside and knowing it’s from the perspective of a dying soldier is even more emotional. I can’t imagine my son in that situation. Thank you to all soldiers all over the world.

I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.
This was a cover of a Dire Straights song. That was released in 1985. It was written about the British, Argentine war over the Falklands Island. The story is told from the perspective of a soldier talking to his comrades as he is dying. Verse 1 he tells that this mountain will be his home when he dies. Verse 2 he glad that his fellow soldiers did not desert him even though he is mortally wounded. Verse 3 talks about the different cultures they come from and that they should not kill are fellow brother in arms. This is one of Home Free’s best releases that they put out.

Loved this by Dire Straits and of course, this is my very favorite version. No matter how many times I hear it, I always have chills from head to toe.. they are superb. @@bobcieslinski also the black rectangle in the window is the border of a flag (the POW/MIA flag) if you notice their silhouette when they are framed in it matches the figure on that flag outside.
Poignant ! There is a deeper resonance here than in the original (no distracting instruments). Songwriter Mark Knopfler really wrote a great song with greater purpose. Home Free just set it free. They made all the right choices For The Song not for anyone's ego. That is the Magic they do. Thanks for reacting to this one it deserves attention more often than Just on Armistice Day.
I really appreciate your reactions to Home Free. You bring out so many interesting things about the harmonies. I think you'll love their cover of "Go Rest High on That Mountain" (Vince Gill). It has all the elements that seem to move you.
Ghosts singing unto the Lord their understanding and regret. This was written for the dead of the Falklands War but was gifted by the Finnish arrangers to Home Free. The number of American Soldiers I worked with from 1990 to 2014 who yearned deeply for the closeness of the Brotherhood of Arms they experienced and felt lost without it until they found their way home. The depth of understanding of the heartache of the other side’s Brothers. Not a sad song, a hymn gifted to the Lord, of understanding a truth.
This song hauntingly beautiful yet sends a powerful message. They remind me of a pipe organ at the climax. Shivers up the spine. No beatboxing. I would love to your reaction to their cover of Helplessly Hoping.
A farmer from the Lowlands figures he'll grow old and be buried there. Then he and his mates answer a call to arms. Sent to the mountains to make war on an enemy and his brothers in arms, he falls. As life fades, he knows he will never see home again. Played out in wars down through time, the symbolism of the singers having light pass through them lets us know we are listening to the voice of the fallen.
Just found your channel. Just watched your reaction to Man of Constant Sorrow and loved it. It's nice hearing someone that knows music and especially vocal music! I'm an old guy that's been in vocal music all his life and have played blues harmonica for 50+ years and Adam Shupp could have saved me hundreds of dollars had he shown me how he does that a cappela! Tim is a basso profundo that can also sing tenor as he did in that Christmas song. (can't remember the title) His vocal cords must be a foot long. lol Anyway, you have a new subscriber!
Ethereal. Haunting. Gut wrenching. Soul stirring. Angelic. The only thing missing was the seraphic choir backing them up. Excuse me while I track down my soul and stuff it back into my body...
I wanted to jump past the phenomenal performance of this incredible group and even past the creation of the magnificent music/story by DS - I truly appreciate you own review and analysis. Well done.
Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits wrote this song in 1985 for the Falklands War. It's the POV of a young soldiers fatally wounded on the battlefield whose 'brothers in arms' won't leave him as long as he's still alive even though they're putting themselves in danger. In the 35+ years I've been listening to the song, first by Dire Straits, then by Home Free, it has never failed to bring tears to my eyes. The lyrics, the sadness to the music always goes straight to my heart.
I just recorded So Long Dixie today so be looking for that one soon. They are so good. I saw them last October in concert. My first time and they blew me away
Mist-covered Mountains are a home now for me but my home is the Lowlands and always will be No conflict here. A young man grows to adulthood in a rural community in the Lowlands. That will always be his home and he sees himself dying there of old age as a grandfather of dozens. But it is not to be. His nation goes to war with the people of the mountains. It sounds the call to arms and the young man answers the call. During an intense battle in the mountains, he is mortally wounded. Exigencies of Service being what they sometimes are, not every fallen warrior goes home to be buried. The young man finds a "home" and final resting place there in the mist-covered mountains but his heart will ever think of his home in the lowlands.
I am a devoted fan, what they call a "home fry", I think. It has been my experience that very many men are afraid to acknowledge how great these men are... as though they might come off as weak if they actually expressed their admiration. They took a Dire Straits masterpiece and did not un-masterpiece it. They gave it a new dimension of masterpiece. The word "outstanding" seems too tame for many of their renditions of the songs we all love. Vocal heroes... each of them. Closer to outright impeccable than most musicians get these days. Mark Knopfler wrote the song a few hundred years ago, and I've listened to him sing and play it a few hundred times, too. So I do know what I'm saying.
I guess the thing about this song, and Dire Straits for that matter, is that Mark Knoffler has a bard like quality, he's always telling a story . Added to that is his guitar work that delivers emotion. If you haven't heard the original , you're missing out. That said , the vocal in this ,brought tears to my eyes.....AMAZING!!!!
You need to listen to this again. You unfortunately paused just as Tim’s bass was about to sound like a pipe organ with the other harmonies in at least two occasions. As a retired Vietnam vet this really hits hard.
I’ve gone back and listened more and you are totally right about thr pipe organ. Wow amazing! Thanks for watching and especially Thank You for your sacrifice and service. It means a lot. I organize a big assembly where we bring in Veterans for Veterans Day and we give them a free breakfast and we have other activities. It a small way to say thank you but they really appreciate it. I’m lucky that I can do that for them.
Now you need Voice Play in your life as well. Home Free is amazing and VP is right up there with them. They work so well together. Unbelievable. Hope you enjoy your trip down Acapella lane. I look forward to seeing your reactions. 1st time viewing your videos.
Thanks Elizabeth I’ve got a Voiceplay that is recorded and needs edited and then it will be out. It was pretty awesome. I’m so glad to have you on this ride down music lane with me. Thanks for watching!
Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥
A small town kid from the Lowlands plans on living and dieing there until he needs the call to arms. Sent halfway around the world to fight in the mountains and falls there. As Life ebbs away, he realizes he will never see his beloved Lowlands again. He will die there. Thus, "These mist-coveted mountains are a home now for me but my home is the Lowlands and always will be".
This song is so good it's like a punch in the gut! You should react to Home Free singing Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys. Tim hits a low note in that song that's almost sub audible! They did the arrangement such that everyone else stopped at that moment otherwise you wouldn't have been able to hear it! Lot's of fanboy stuff in that video too! Very cool!

Every song Home Free sing they make it there's. He is a good bass singer. God Bless the U.S.of A. They do a great job. I could listen to them till the sun sets. I love this guys. Hill belly Bone is good to Man of Constsnce Sorrow. The beat boxer does a harmonica in this song, GREAT JOB.
when the total product is greater than the sum of the individuals. the remote, forgotten cemetery is overwhelming. sensory overload!!
For sure Glenn. Thanks for watching!
Home Free is the total package. They have phenomenal voices and they know how to create beautiful visuals in their videos
They really do Sandra.
This is truly haunting. Glad you were as impressed with it as we were. Home Free's perfection has made us a bit spoiled and we have really high expectations from other groups now.. rarely happens with others tho! Their harmonies and blendings are beyond perfect.. Loved this by Dire Straits and of course, this is my very favorite version. No matter how many times I hear it, I always have chills from head to toe.. they are superb. Their time on The Sing Off was great.. have you ever seen that show? Lots of talented people there. Thanks for all you do! Stay safe!!
Hi Sally, they are so talented. I did see some of their Sing Off shows. They were good then and certainly great now.
They are phenomenal and have brig me home to music. Seen them twice in concert and will catch then again
So true Cheryl! Lucky you to have seen them twice.
It's an amazingly powerful song and Tim's voice is chillingly great.
I cry thinking about the men and woman who never come home. Hits you right in the heart!
It gets to me too Dixie.
This is one the best they’ve ever done. The harmonies are incredible 🇺🇸🙃❤️. Thank You for your reaction.
Thanks for the kind words Joan and it is incredible for sure.
Dirge is the word that comes to mind - mournful and heart wrenching. It gives full focus to the senseless things humanity kills each other over.
So true Cheri.
Thank you for doing Home Free!!
Many miss the fact the the Home Free logo in the beginning is a grave. You can see through their half dead ghost bodies.
I need to go back and check that out. Thanks for the info and for watching intermenator.
@@bobcieslinski also the black rectangle in the window is the border of a flag (the POW/MIA flag) if you notice their silhouette when they are framed in it matches the figure on that flag outside.
Loved your reaction....this video is just hauntingly beautiful! I just subbed for more Home Free!
Thanks Patricia it really is and thanks for subbing!
Thanks for the kind words Dawn and great info!
I cry for every Person that loses a loved one in war! Mom’s on both sides weep and lose!
Adam Rupp doesn't get to sing often, but when he does, he really adds something special.
Lord, thankyou for these voices here on Earth. Soldiers, thankyou for loving us so much. ..love
Well said Karen.
If you have served or not you will feel the pangs of death and destruction ...... the loss and longing of warriors ! GREAT ! ! !
I have not served but my Father and Father-in-Law both did.
The harmonies and subharmonics are absolutely gorgeous
love from Sweden
Nice to hear from you again. It is so good.
Great reaction, Bob! Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words Michael! I appreciate your time watching !
I am not an American but this song says a lot .... no wonder they are so passionate about their homeland
Awesome cover of Dire Straights Brothers in Arms, amazing vocals from Home Free.
I really appreciate your reactions to Home Free. You bring out so many interesting things about the harmonies. I think you'll love their cover of "Go Rest High on That Mountain" (Vince Gill). It has all the elements that seem to move you.
Thanks again for the comments and suggestion!
To me... This song is a lullaby. Always has been, always will be.
AMAZING AS ALWAYS 💕💕🏆
This song hauntingly beautiful yet sends a powerful message. They remind me of a pipe organ at the climax. Shivers up the spine. No beatboxing. I would love to your reaction to their cover of Helplessly Hoping.
Thanks Peggy! I’ll try to get to it eventually.
I absolutely love the harmonies and it is so haunting.♥️
(can't remember the title)
His vocal cords must be a foot long. lol
Anyway, you have a new subscriber!
Your Reaction the opening and Tim’s solo say it all. I have the same reaction to the opening and first verse. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Ethereal. Haunting. Gut wrenching. Soul stirring. Angelic. The only thing missing was the seraphic choir backing them up.
Excuse me while I track down my soul and stuff it back into my body...
Lol thanks for the comment GaiaOne!
Gives me chills everytime
I love when Adam Rupp sings!
I wanted to jump past the phenomenal performance of this incredible group and even past the creation of the magnificent music/story by DS - I truly appreciate you own review and analysis. Well done.
Thanks so much Scott for those kind words. I really appreciate it!
There is so much respect in HF's rendition of this song that all you can do is be silent and listen with reverence.
Home Free just seems to be getting better. They have just released a new song, Amazed, that is absolutely beautiful. Give it a listen, and be Amazed.
I’m working on that video right now Tribblepuppy. Thanks for suggesting it. Look for the video next week.
For sure it does get to you.
By far the best reaction (heart felt) I've seen. Thank you.
Wow thanks so much Doug. You made my day!
If you enjoy their harmonies you have to check out "Helplessly Hoping". No beat boxing just vocals from all 5 men. It's mind blowingly beautiful.
I just recorded So Long Dixie today so be looking for that one soon. They are so good. I saw them last October in concert. My first time and they blew me away
Tim Foust Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/ Stay
Sound good Reynolds Jobes! Thanks!
Mist-covered Mountains are a home now for me but my home is the Lowlands and always will be
No conflict here.
My favorite group. LOVE THIS.
They are great thanks Sophia!
Chills during the first verse.
Me too.
You need to listen to this again. You unfortunately paused just as Tim’s bass was about to sound like a pipe organ with the other harmonies in at least two occasions.
As a retired Vietnam vet this really hits hard.
Some songs shouldn't be paused at all.
I absolutely love this group.
They are great for sure!
Nice reaction Bob. Magnificent harmonies. Please consider playing Home Free Man Of Constant Sorrow. You won’t regret it.
Thanks for the kind words Michael! I’ll add that one to the list.
I never thought anyone could do this as good as Dire Straits but this is absolutely divine. Great reaction
Thanks for the kind words Donna! I agree.
Best descriptive reaction I've seen in some time...well done.
Thanks Don! I appreciate the kind words.
Now you need Voice Play in your life as well. Home Free is amazing and VP is right up there with them. They work so well together. Unbelievable. Hope you enjoy your trip down Acapella lane. I look forward to seeing your reactions. 1st time viewing your videos.
Agreed! Both Home Free and VoicePlay are wonderful groups.
I like your thought about the reflection Marsha. It could be.
Very cool!
Thanks Richard! I loved the Oak Ridge boys version of that. I’ll have to check out Home Frees.
Song is originally by 70s rock band "Dire Straits". An underrated gem.
Hello!! I really appreciate your channel! I founded you with snarky Puppy and Dirty loops, who I follow this amazing group's over years, dirty loops I remember when they published the cover of Baby - Justin Bieber, and Dirty loops in the same feeling, over and over years ago... but I come here to recomend one of my favorite masterpieces of music, Zhivago - kurt rosenwinkel & OJM, is really really awesome! Until today I can find something new when I watch it. It's so satisfying and gorgeous, it's jazz orchestral, it's beautiful! Take your time to react this one, you should be like it! Thanks for your time Mr Cieslinski! Say hello from Brazil 🇧🇷 we still enjoying the great music here... see you in the next 👍🏻
Hi Matheus! Wow Brazil that’s pretty cool! So glad you are checking out my videos. The music everyone is suggesting is amazing and I’m enjoying it. Thanks for the great suggestion and am looking forward to listening to it. Thanks!
They are so amazing !
If you loved this then try their "Go Rest High On That Mountain"...now that's a service man's song too....
Thanks Robert!
I absolutely adore home free
They are amazing Jayne, for sure.
HomeFree magic!
