  • Our clients are increasingly selecting the short 144" wheelbase Sprinter chassis for their custom builds.
    In this video, Mike shares a handful of 144" builds to highlight what clients are asking for, and how our team is tackling the challenges of finite space.
    Here is the link to New Jersey Outdoor Adventures, where a client, Julie, gave a tour of her 144" build Robert:

    I'm Sprite's owner (Terri) and want to mention what an *outstanding* job ARV did on implementing my fully custom 144" van. (Second one shown in this video.) I had a number of fairly complicated design requests and they executed on my vision 110%! I keep hoping to have the time to make a full video tour of my van (and have even recorded some segments for that) but life's just been too hectic. I've had the van for about 6 months now and couldn't be happier. If you want a company that really goes all out on your custom design, ARV is the perfect choice!

    OMG it’s my bathroom. I spoke with them two years ago about doing that short bathroom. At that time they had not done it.

      But it wastes 80-90% of the space that it takes up compared to my design. It also has a low ceiling height due to floor being raised and ceiling being lowered at the shower. She often travels with a male companion who I believe is pretty tall so I wonder if he has to duck his head in the shower. Regardless you should never design a van, or a house, that limits the buyers to shorter people or you’ll take a bigger hit in what you get for it

    Mike, what is the lightweight panel material with the cellulose in the middle called? I would love to get that for my DIY build.

    It will be interesting to see how many people still want a B-box after the availability of other sprinters improves

  • @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath
    @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath 2 роки тому

    Is it really necessary to use that lightweight material in order to stay under the weight limit?

    if youre a shorter person, you can raise the floor and use that as storage

      That’s fine if your multimillionaire but if you ever want to sell your van and get much out of it you really don’t want to limit your buyers to short people

    Looks to me like your clients are not asking for enough because I don’t see anything here that I haven’t seen dozens of times in other videos. You obviously have very skilled craftsmen and they can obviously do curved cabinets and you obviously use lots of expensive equipment and materials in your vans and you have the experience but I don’t see a lot of innovation. I’m curious why you’re not painting these B-boxes to match the van

    I love the idea of a 144 for maximum mobility, but there is no way it'll hold every feature I want in a van. A 144 b-box with its extra width could work, but I'm still leaning toward a 170 non-extended van build. It offers more space and can be designed to be stealth, whereas a b-box screams "RV". I want to be able to 'camp' in urban settings without being hassled by police, so stealth appearance is very important. In any case, either ARV or Humble Road will be my builder, but that's a long way off. Excellent work ARV!

    • @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath
      @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath 2 роки тому

      Also in stealth urban camping you are often parallel parked and in some cities like Berkeley, CA the parking rules signs are placed so closely to the curb that they will scratch a reg Sprinter due to the tilting of the van caused by the curvature of the road (in profile/cross section) so a B-box would have to be parked away from street signs or be parked at least a foot away from the curb to not get scratched by these signs risking side swiping by passing vehicles.

    Hello Guys
    One design that I haven’t seen being made by customizes like yourself is a bug out unit.
    Definitely not something I think you would ever make, but the concept is interesting.
    A van that doesn’t have many comforts but has the capability to stay off grid for extended amount of time. Lots of battery power and other was to generate power and heat. Larger then normal water supply. Larger water filtration system. On board Medical equipment and supplies. Large fuel capacity with a engine that can use different fuels. On board welder ( for on the road repairs)
    You got the idea. Something that can be used to drive to a safe location if a major emergency happen in your Province or State.
    Anyway it’s just a crazy idea.
    But in today’s political climate things can get out of hand quickly, and getting out of Town maybe your only option!

    While I appreciate the fit and finish, I never understand using 3/4 material in these vans, that's way overkill and just eats space and weight. 3/4x1/2 cabinet frames (skeleton) with 1/2 or even 1/4 ply or hardwood is plenty strong for anything at all in a van. 3/4 cabinets with 3/4 doors on both sides.. literally wasting 3 inches across the width and then multiples of times down the length.

    Why do people go out of their way to stick the sink in front of a blank wall when they could’ve just as easily have put it in front of a window like it’s done and 99%+ of all homes?

    Naming vans with people’s names is pretty silly IMO and telling others the name as if they should care is sillier. Name IT something clever and relevant to the build or don’t bother.. If somebody tells me their van is Robert I’m gonna ask them if it’s OK if I call it Bob for short, especially if it’s a B-box. I’ll call it B-box Bob.

    Don’t buy a Mercedes sprinter unless you are happy for the roof to leak in time - your precious conversion will be ruined. Take a look at the seams on the roof - they are bolted together and will rust as the years go by, eventually letting in a lot of water and destroying your conversion ! Mercedes have not managed it seems to build a Sprinter van whose roof does not leak in time ..
