I think Americans aren't looked at as seriously because Koreans think it's only temporary (they aren't living there permanently, even with visas). And the stereotypes go both ways, their ideas of what an American is, is the same as an American who travels and wants to date because of K-dramas. Korea is still very much an homogeneous country, so most of their ideas on foreigners in general comes from media.

Those westerner guys in the past decades who flocked Asia only to hook up and get them impregnated then leave them didn't help either.
Here in this "particular" Asian country, Asian-Americans who grew up in the states and went there to visit their families or whatever, are often described as "too liberated", and often frowned upon for their "very American behavior" and ill-mannered way of speaking to elders and stuff like that. .

I took a language course at Seoul National University and I know how their teachers categorize students from western countries and underdeveloped countries. I was so disheartened that I left the course in the middle. Although, I was so hurt but I have a message for all people around the world who have or still are facing discrimination, looked down at just for being born in an underdeveloped country. If anyone thinks they are superior, this thing only exists in a box which is their mind. It has no reality outside. If someone discriminates or uses hateful words, it shows their own low shallow self. Keep in mind no matter how hard the wind blows, mountains are never moved by it. Be happy and strong for who you are, not because what they think you are.

I actually saw a video of a black girl who was mistaken for a prostitute in one of her many trips to Korea. For some Korean guys, that may be partly where the misconception is coming from. Many Korean guys go to brothels during their mandatory army time and it is quite common for human traffickers to trap women into prostitution in foreign countries. The way black women are treated in porn or popular media (not too different tbh) wouldn't help either.

In the past days Korean women couldn't have chance to take higher education like going university and learn language, that luxury was only for men. But now most girls go to university and they are well educated and have manner. Also they are getting to make their careers, women are more independent in the financial way, still get paid 2 of 3 comparing with male workers but they're trying. In opposite, many men are likely to get more assertive in the way they make relationship with women and men both. I still don’t know how to react to these actions but i just learned how to keep my eyes and ears close whenever someone trying to offend me.
Sometimes i cry just because I cannot defend myself. I try to keep my tears till I arrive home.
On the other hand, if you want to get used to such situations it is better for you to live or work somewhere there are many foreigners similar to you :) or make alot of foreign friends.
Keep in mind that not all ppl are similar to one another they may not get offended after seeing how their korean friends treat. It depends on how individuals come from and their personalities.

You need better friends - ones who have decent principles, standards and boundaries. Asking if someone is married/single/has children is one thing - whether that is seen as rude to ask to a stranger can differ among cultures. But a man asking sexual questions to a woman he has just met is rude and unacceptable in EVERY culture on planet earth.

10:15. I love these interviews so much. Their way of storytelling reminds me of my friends.
Also, all of these are horrible things to go through, and unfortunately happen just about everywhere.

These were some very great and forthright interviewees, therefore, this was an excellent video and gave a realistic view of life in South Korea. You should go to other cities and to towns where there are foreigners to see how they live because I think it would be very different from living in Seoul.🌺🌺🌺

This was a great edit/mix of views and experiences! I liked the woman's opinion that, despite or perhaps because of the forced awareness of cultural differences, some relationships and communication can be strengthened. The points about fetishization were a good counter example -- just like some Korean guys could be inappropriate and not see the woman as an individual, I'm in the US and have known guys here who fetishized certain Asian women. In all these cases, it would be such a small but beneficial step to pause and ask them or check oneself with, "Wait, would this be something I'd say to someone NOT of XYZ culture or race?"
Those are the easy "Don't be a jerk" lessons. The more difficult lessons are where one culture's idea of acceptable good behavior ends up being some degree of unacceptable in another, despite a person trying their sincere best. In my experience, that's been much easier to get blindsided/surprised by, and cause unexpected problems.

    “Superficial”

Vietnamese people are kind and they are just like the climate of their country, mostly sunny. Just notice about making close relationship with people in the pool of your status, like your colleagues, in the similar residence, because quite many people know you as your fund.

For me I like the Korean history... Their history is pretty wild.
I hope to Visit Korea in the coming years. Heck I might even decide to live there.
That and my Grandfather fought in the Korean war which led me wanting to know more about South Korea.

There are so many stereotypes on both sides.. I am sure that you will do the opposite and ask men what it's like to date a non Korean and you will hear so many of the stereotypes of foreign woman. I really love the lady with the red mask, so full of self esteem and strong

Ah Koreans, love em or avoid them. Here is a short life-story ; had been in kind of a friendship circle with about 20 or so from Seoul to Jeju and everywhere else between and one very strong trends they all had in common : I'm treated more like a country than an individual !! I'm from Northeast India.

Dating in Korea is hard to do with a pandemic since the most natural way to date is not truly available. Yes there is the dating apps and stuff like that but you only see what the person wants you to see on a screen. I hope that there can be more natural opportunities to meet out and about in Korea.

Question: Is it easy to meet new Korean people and make relationships?
Answer: It much depends on your nationality. It is indeed easy for Americans or British or Germans... But it is not easy for people from "less refined" countries. Its a shame. But this is the reality

😂😂 No disrespect to the people in the video but these 'what's dating like in X for Americans' vids are hilarious. Almost like comedy to me. The black lady in burgundy mask has an amazing personality. I could listen to her all day! And the guy with the accent! 'Taking your 35 years old gf out at 7pm and have to ask the parents' permissions was a big one!' 😂😂
