@@komea12 I guess. I've never had a problem talking truth and being direct. Let's not pretend like people don't know what I'm talking about
It’s funny how the guy explained about how he got his girlfriend’s dad to open up with alcohol. Mostly because he sounds just like my uncle, who is a stereotypical silent and seemingly unfriendly old Japanese man, but gets really chatty once he gets drunk. It’s unfortunate that it has to take alcohol to have a positive conversation though.
and when you're an asian american, its always the ethnicity they're interested in, rather than the "american" part. at least, thats my experience. you have the face of a local but the mannerisms and mindset of a foreigner. its very confusing. gotta explain my entire life story everytime i meet someone.
Same my experience being an Asian /pacific islander American. For me people in general will they assume things and ask weird questions. But now I m less offend by the questions., And I just politely correct them on what the question they ask because most of the people don't mean to be offensive. I'm still excited about going to Japan with my husband. I m just so glad there are channels like this so I get an idea of what it might be , when we finally get to visit Japan.
Ya this is true. But you really don't have to explain your life story. The confusion comes from the fact that they don't even know white Americans have their origins in Europe. Simply tell them "I'm American" and let that be the end of it. Eventually it will catch on that Americans don't have to look a certain way.

Sorry to say, Japanese people tend not to be "woke". In any ethnically homogenous society there will be some xenophobia that comes with that. Try asking some Japanese folks whether their parents would approve of dating a foreigner, and you'll see this guy isn't wrong.
I think that dude that said only 5% are interested in dating foreigners just looks creepy so he gets turned down a lot. The people he talked to are probably saying they wouldn't date foreigners cuz they think that might give him hope.
Do you live in Japan? What's your experience dating there and why should it invalidate his experience? Sorry to say Japan is not a "woke" society and xenophobia is real there
I feel like thats a pretty legit assumption that 5% of the population would only date a foreigner in a country with solely one nationality. As many wouldn't want to date on the basis of cultural values and also language barrier so it makes sense. But, the kinda people that foreigners surround themselves with and generally make friends within these countries where the culture is vastly different from their own are likely going to make friends with locals that fit into this 5% and therefore be more open. Thus, making a synthetic inflation of this number from the observers point of view.
The "5% interested" estimation really strikes home with me. I've been in Japan for about 3 years and have had about the same success rate. However, still better than my at home percentage which is about 0.5%. Lol

I wouldn't say more popular but it has been gaining attention. There's this data that shows that K-entertainment consumption has outperformed Hollywood.. but in Southeast Asia only. But again, K-entertainment is currently up there, only second to Hollywood.
@@chickenman2949 Of course. American pop remains number 1. I'm just surprised how easy it is for the U.S to promote Kpop when they could just produce more American music videos and monopolize the internet to remain superior. At first, it gave me cringe when a world-power nation started joining the Kpop hype and play safe with this Asianbaiting.. I mean of course, America is still the home of legendary and iconic artists who started and invented pop on this planet. But with what's happening and the slowly-deteriorating produce of new American artists, it will no longer be shocking if the next generation would see POP as simply "Korean" as that's the first thing the young ones would see on the media. In fact, it's slowly happening now. Some younger delusional fans would claim that BTS choreo is all original when in fact it has 75% Western influences. The kids in my neighborhood would quickly say "Kpop" when they see a sort of fashion that's colorful, stylish and when they hear random auto-tune instrumentals in some gatherings. Seriously, Hollywood needs to wake up.

I love your videos, but you should have asked the question most channels don't ask: "What about marriage or long-term relationships?" I've been in Japan for more than 5 years in total and I feel like most people I've met with we're mostly looking for ONS or short-term relationships with marriage in sight (many told me that they only wanted to try doing it or dating with a foreigner).
Hello Asian Boss. This topic covering American experiences in Japan, Korea and China is much better than your previous topic of ‘Why do Americans live in…?’ It was more dynamic and had more energy than your previous topic covering the American in Japan experience. I think your interviewees represented the Japan dating experience fairly well. Dating outside of Tokyo, however, is very different. The language barrier is the biggest challenge. A highly schedule driven (and excessive) work culture is another reason. Many Japanese are conformist and view foreigners as ‘other-worldly’, so they’re either afraid, shy or reluctant to interact with foreigners on even a surface level. For many Japanese, they don’t see it as realistic to even meet a foreigner. This is largely due to lack of access and language and cultural barriers. For those who are surprised by the number of Americans who live in Japan, it is not a large number. There are roughly 50,000 Americans in Japan, a country of 125 million people. A high concentration of Americans live in Tokyo, a city of 36 million people.
I think this channel receives money from the United States to advertise them. they just talk about the united states all the time, they wouldn't do it for free.
4:40 it’s because people prefer surrounding themselves with those who are like them. We prefer someone of our own culture, that way we share the same values and principles.
How do you know foreigners won't share the same values and principles though? As a foreigner who has lived in Asia 5 years, I came here bc my values and principles match more with country I'm living in, as do most foreigners who move long term to another country. To me, this is not a culture thing, but more a person by person (case by case) situation. Imo, ppl need to stop judging everyone based on social media and pop culture. Stop seeing color, start seeing humanity.
@@Mecks089 Hmm, I don't think herd mentality applies because there is no sense of trying to conform but rather being comfortable with what is familiar to us. When people say herd mentality, it usually refers to people following others or conforming to the majority.

About ghosting, I think it also depends on how your personality fits the culture because for me it's the opposite. When I lived in the US, it felt like I would get ghosted everytime I thought I made a new friend, man or woman. People whom I thought were my friends would also frequently stop contacting me. Basically, I don't know how to make/keep friends in the US, lol. However in Japan, it just works naturally. I'm rarely ghosted and friends stay friends.

It would also be interesting to see the same stuff but with non-American foreigners living in Japan, to see how other cultural backgrounds mix with Japanese culture.
If you got game in your country, you’ll have game there. I dated a woman for 2 years who had never even met a non-Japanese before. We still chat now and then, 20 years later. Never had a problem meeting people.
I had no game when I was stationed in Japan and I dated a few Japanese girls. I had to learn game coming back to the states. I was 5'11 and in decent shape because I was in the military, which that could play a role into it, appearance wise. Just in the states, after learning game, just telling a girl she is cute in the states doesn't hold up that much weight compared to telling Japanese women that they are cute.
I think we’re just more comfortable talking about things like this in public. I’m happy to be your American pen pal! I’d love to come visit as host someone. I did that in highschool with an exchange student and went to Italy and it was such a great experience.

Japanese bathing culture is definitely something that is a struggle for many Americans 😂 I think most Americans are like "why would I take a bath daily?" and finding out that that is the norm in Japan can be quite shocking. Another thing I learned when I went to college in Japan, is that the Japanese students would always shower at night, and were puzzled about why the Westerners would always shower in the morning. The dorm cleaning ladies came in the morning and it was always weird to us that they would come clean at the most high-traffic time when everyone was getting ready for their day. Once a Japanese friend explained that most people shower at night, it made a lot more sense to me.
It’s interesting how all these people have already adopted more of a Japanese tone and pace to their voices than what you would hear the typical American talking like such. Goes to show how malleable we are when we live amongst different cultures than our own
My roomate who lived in Japan for 4 years just said that "dating in asia as a sub bottom is disapointing" and I'm not actually sure what that means xD Do I even want to know?
I've dated many Japanese women in America and here in Japan. They all had extremely different personalities. The vast majority in the US were just out for sex and money, and had a fetish for dating caucasians. I thought of giving up on dating Japanese women, but here in Tokyo I found my soulmate. Been married happily for 10 years now. Not all Japanese women are the same, there are good and bad in all cultures and people in the same culture also have different ways of interpreting their own culture. A lot of Japanese women do have different cultural values.
people who are considering moving or are currently living in Japan should watch "Tokyo girl". It shows you how their dating culture is and the progression of life there.

He can probably only date 5% of American women as well so it makes sense

18:51 ''tell me you are American without telling me you are American''
I get the feeling that the young gent with the blue shirt hasn't dated extensively, he is vibing jaded+desperate simultaneously.
Now i really want to be friends with Americans. I like it how they express their feelings and tell their opinions on such topics like this.
you talk as if others aren't expressing their feeligns and opinons at all LOL.
You will quickly get tired of us I'm sure 😂 we get sick of ourselves
lol as if yankoids are the only ones capable of expressing their feelings
I think we’re just more comfortable talking about things like this in public. I’m happy to be your American pen pal! I’d love to come visit as host someone. I did that in highschool with an exchange student and went to Italy and it was such a great experience.
@@dickthebirthdayboy2132it’s a matter of directness, openness, and honesty. We don’t have a culture of saving face so people won’t lie or pretend in order to “protect” feelings or reputation.
for the guy at 10:14 I think thats just the women/men trying to not be upfront with them so they dont directly hurt their feelings, and to avoid that sort of conflict they just stop talking to you and hope to probably not talk to you that much at all anymore
Lol the guy who talks about learning things and calling it data made me laugh.
“I blame Disney” lmao 😂 so casually-said
This video made me so happy bc I Just watch the video with Koreans dating foreigners and it was so ridiculous that it’s just me out but now you’re in the video about Japan makes me more comfortable and makes me wanna go there even more
Japanese bathing culture is definitely something that is a struggle for many Americans 😂 I think most Americans are like "why would I take a bath daily?" and finding out that that is the norm in Japan can be quite shocking.
Goes to show how malleable we are when we live amongst different cultures than our own
I just realized as a Swede that Sweden and Japan have a very similar culture
Appreciate the last woman’s comments that we can’t generalize-essentialize others
My roomate who lived in Japan for 4 years just said that "dating in asia as a sub bottom is disapointing" and I'm not actually sure what that means xD Do I even want to know?
Sub bottom?
omg i got it and well i guess they're right lol
Lololololol omg

18:52 glad she brought this up 😊
Ikr, Americans gotta check those privileges.
It would be nice if they do these interviews with other nationalities too.
Winnie... SO this is where you.. Miss you over at NHK!!
Continued success!!
"Where's my bento?!" LMFAO 😂
Yeah, where’s my bento????
We love Americans~
Love from Japan ❣️❤️♥️
We love Japan as well.
thank youu😭😭💞
You want more love from them like those in hiroshima and nagasakhi
Hey, non-japanese people
↑The one like this guy is the one of the reasons we don't like foreigners
Japanese people don't write like that.
All these people are so cool... Like I would love to go Japan just to meet them
Yes
I've noticed and these people are truly international people, citizens of the globe
people who are considering moving or are currently living in Japan should watch "Tokyo girl". It shows you how their dating culture is and the progression of life there.
I lived in Tokyo for 2 years, and most Japanese people in Tokyo mostly date with in their own, and there is nothing wrong with that. I dated 2 Japanese women when I was there.
at the same time?
Loved the people that were interviewed, they had great answers. Nice video!
