Hey Mikkel, be a little careful when using stiff clay. I tried making a 40cm wide platter from stiff clay and was straining, huffing and puffing just like you in this video. Unfortunately I ended up with a case of tendonitis that prevented me from doing any heavy work for a couple of months. Remember we are getting older so understand your limits and leave the strenuous stuff to the young folk.
Excellent, thank you Mikkel. It is hard work centering a large piece of clay, I’ve not achieved success with large pieces yet….I admit I found myself holding my breath when you were but at least you had something impressive to show for it. ❤🇬🇧
Thanks for the stoneware grog advice. I've been throwing with normal porcelain and consistently experiencing collapsed rims on my platters. Tooling the inside is also no shame IMO.

Its not as bad as it looks and the firmer clay makes it easier to do the wide shallow pots :-)

Thanks. Just try :-)
@andreag7822 I used to hold my breath all the time, but luckily it's something I rarely do, blue is not a good look lol happy potting

Thanks. Porcelain is more difficult for sure. But not impossible :-)
Here is an example:

I love making this shape bowl, I just need to increase the clay amount to make the my bowls bigger, roll on September to get back to class😊
You can do it!
Do you find that the edges lift a bit on drying and firing?
Depends on the clay and how you dry it but generally yes, edges do raise a bit. But with very grogged clay and slow drying much less so
5 kilos. That’s not a platter for passing… :). Enjoyed watching you wrestle the clay into shape.
Thanks for watching!
