Hello Steve, good to see you and Maple again. I can hardly believe how more you have gotten done to Dragonfly, she getting closer and closer to getting wet. I really like how you think things through on the safety issues, I’m sure you’ll always have precious cargo along with you on her. The piece of music you shared with the guitar sounds excellent. I could zone out just listening to that- nice. Scratch Maple behind the ear for me, I know she’s a good one. See you on the next one, my friend, and y’all take care. Joe 🤙
Haha, yes indeed, or just add a nice big heavy keel. However, shallow draft is what we want to explore the waters of the Murray River. Due to the flow being mostly killed (slowed down) from the locks and over farming allocation, the channel is all over the place and there are sand bars in a lot of the areas we like to travel through. It can be done in a deeper draft boat, and I have done it. But sooooo much easier in a shallow draft vessel. See ya on the water :) Steve and Maple
Hi Martin, thanks for watching all the way from England. I watch a lot of vids on canal boating. It seems there are boat nut everywhere. Thanks for watching, Steve and Maple
Great shots from the bow, with some utubers I tend to jump past the intro but you keep changing the start so I'm not game to. The boat is coming along but I keep feeling sorry for you with al the painting to be done is the future Steve spraying or brushing. Cheers and beers I
Cheers and beers to you too. I am actually looking forward to the painting as that will mean I am nearing the end of the build. Probably spray, but not sure yet. I am not after a super fine finish. Egg shell will be absolutely ok. I don't want his to be a shoes off boat. User friendly is what I am going for. Cheers from me and her.
I am impressed with the building style basically building bottom up in a modular fashion, quite unique but makes sense. with the laminated stringers I do that occasionally but I cut a 45 on the ends. Not really a scarf not really a but joint however less dry joints enough stronger that it doesn't crack when bending into position and stronger if bumped from the side. 45 because super easy with chop saw.
Early in the video your overlay asks "How old do you think I am?" (Something to that effect). I'm guessing you're 62-63, max. I base that on my age (68), and with that said: you're in remarkably good shape for your age-- much better than I was at that tender age! LOL... Now, at 68, with some heart problems and various and miscellaneous other nonsense, I'm unhappy to report my appearance adds some years to my actual age. Not fun. BUT...!!! At 62/63, I most likely would have happily begun a project such as yours, as I was still very mobile. Anyway: love your vids, your project, and I look forward to the launch of Dragonfly! P.S.: New dog is sweet, but I miss Millie. May she Rest In Peace.
it is really amazing that since i started to watch your TV Show Steve you managed to build an amazing yacht and i managed to wear out a computer chair ! i need to get off my tush lol .. Steve when it came to power have you ever considered cute little diesels , step away from the cake !
Would love diesels, however, the whole idea of the flat bottom thing is to have a super shallow draft, hence the 4 stroke outboards as they can tilt up when necessary to get over shallow sand bars etc. Everything is a compromise with a boat as I am sure you are well aware. Till next time, Steve and Maple
Enjoying your videos being in the UK boats like this is not something I've seen before, will you be doing anything to the hull to prevent rot etc like fibre glassing? or just some sort of paint?
Hmmmm, not 57. I see you have done your research on me hey? LOL Yes, I invented an inflatable drum kit many years ago. Won a local inventors TV program and also won a silver medal at the Geneva convention of inventions in the category of 'teaching aids and instruments of the arts'. Cheers, Steve and Maple
Hello American rambler, thanks for your interest and such a good question. The answer is yes, and ibn fact I quite literally just finished wetting out that entire area yesterday. Although never seen, it is standard practice to wet out, seal any bare timber in the voids etc. As you are probably aware this protects the plywood in case of any moisture intrusion. A coat of epoxy can save a mountain of problems in years to come. So, a great question which I was going to address in the next video. Take care over there in USA land, cheers, Steve and Maple (the chewy puppy) LOL
@@steveshierdoesstuff7420 have you come up with an appropriate nick name for maple? I see she still likes to chew on everything, and I expect that will decrease as she grows past her puppy phase, but I am wondering if her emerging character and behaviors are suggesting a new nickname.
Okay, so... somewhere in the ~31.00 timeframe you ask if anyone knows anything about dogs and full moons and weird behavior. Controversial subject. I've heard all my life, and seen in various YT videos stuff about people going bonkers during this time. AND, how police are alert to this and add more coverage at night during these events. Fact is, I haven't found a single post in ANY forum from an actual-- VERIFIED-- police department website or social media account even remotely commenting on this. As for dogs? I'm not even remotely interested in weeding through the acres and acres of ridiculous nonsense I'm sure to find there in a Google search to find anything that even has a modicum of rational reality to it. Good luck, Steve. And good luck to anyone who is even remotely interested in that nut-job stuff.
Hahahaha, it is of course entirely possible that the craziness is actually due to Maple being a 6/7 month old energetic puppy. However, the full moon thing does make a good story. Thanks for watching, Steve and the nutty puppy.
The number of minute details that you have stored in your head never ceases to amaze and impress me. I would need a complete set of prints.
We will see when I'm finished if I should have had a full set of prints or not. LOL Cheers, Steve and Maple

Hey Joe, Maple has been scratched and is very happy about that. Thanks for your positive up beat comments as usual. Take care, Steve and a happy Maple
Maple is most likely a weredog. So simple!
Haha, you're probably right. We'll see what she morphs in to. Cheers from Steve and the weredog.
Hey steve you should lift her up and add a a little v shape the the bottom of the hull then you can use your nice boat in the ocean..

Great job Steve. Love watching these videos from the opposite side of the world in England.👍

Yep, sounds very logical. if there is a next time I will do that. Thanks for leaving a comment, always appreciated. Cheers, Steve and Maple
I would say about 65 yrs young.👍
LOL nope, not 65. Cheers, Steve and Maple
bravo
Thank you very much :) Cheers and take care, Steve and Maple

We are not very much alike. Sometimes I sits 'n' thinks, but most of the time I just sits.
Very witty David. When this project is done, I think I might do some sitting and thinking too, but mainly sitting. :)

Hello, the bottom is already glassed and the rest gets done with a lighter cloth later. Cheers, Steve and Maple
My guess is your a fine 57 model , love to know about your blowup drum kit.

Steve what came in that saertrex box from south Africa.... My country 😂
I think that is the fibreglass cloth.
How much do you think this boat will weigh?
Hmmm, I expect about 5 ton, give or take a bit. Thanks for watching and commenting. Steve and Maple
Are you going to epoxy or paint the flotation chambers prior to filling them with foam?

@@americanrambler4972 We will see. We do call het 'chop stix' sometimes because she is all legs in all directions, hilarious.
