My mother served during World War II, 1943-46, and was extremely proud to be a member of the US Coast Guard. Tomorrow, I will bury her at the age of 93. She was always a brave and exceptional woman. I am making sure the US Coast Guard is present at her burial. Semper Paratus was a theme by which my beloved mother lived.
I kindly thank your mother for serving. And although I personally don't believe in God as a holy being, I wish to bless you and your family. My cousin is currently serving in the navy, my uncle's in the army, my grandfather is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and my dad attempted to serve in the Air Force just to name a few. No matter what the USCG is considered, whether military or simply defense, I will always understand their importance and how they have helped this country just as much, if not more than my relatives.

I played Sousaphone in the USCG Alameda Training Center Band in 1971, back in the days before we all had video recorders with sound. Boy, I would love to find a film of that on line.

@@Szgerle The Coast Guard is the only service that works to help people, other than the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (which is considered a uniformed service and can be deployed to war). The Coast Guard will go out for search and rescue operations in the worst weather, if you are lost at sea your savior will look an orange and white helicopter.

I liked our uniforms of the '70's. Flat top cover with US Coast Guard on the front band. I still have mine.
