@@FlashPointHx Oh my God, thank you so much! You know those times when you want to hear some specific song or a soundtrack but you cannot remember it's name so you keep searching for like months for it? Yeah, that was 0 AD soundtrack for me. And you finally revealed me the name of that soundtrack. Again thank you so much! And yeah, it's great song for the type of story like the one of Justinian's plague.
This is beautiful, tied together so many mental loose ends of my slapdash historical knowledge and it did so concisely and engagingly, thank you so much! Please keep at it!
So many thanks to you, I appreciate your work and dedication so much. I have listened to your Byzantium Podcast for years, and you were very kind to offer me membership when I couldnt afford it due to my disability. There have been tens of hours I have listened during times I could not do much physically. Your work is invaluable and a gift. Rock on!!!!! Many thanks.
Then when the Arab conquest came, they would be facing two major superpowers who were in their prime. Islam might never have gotten out of the Arabian Pen
@@FlashPointHx True, makes me wonder what other 'corners' of the Roman and Persian empires could've become major global powers like Islam if things just went a little differently. Like if Clovis and the Franks didn't become Catholic and instead chose a different version of Christianity or even returned to Paganism.
Great content, well presented. My only critique is that Romans and Byzantines could not grow corn since it was a crop exclusive to the Americas until the 16th century.
Thank you so much! Eye-opening and extremely exciting! at 18:55, i do not know what records you used or how you made the animations (great stuff anyway, been following the channel for a while) anyway, back to the video. Adrian mausoleum "converted to a fortress" screams to me St Angel keep, are we sure it's the door south of "ianiculum" and not the northern, lost "cornelia-sancti petri" Gate?
Yeah I think you might be right - I looked up several maps on Ancient Rome and they seem to have the twi mixed. The animations were made using Apple Motion
did you leave the war between byzantines and persians on a cliffhanger? you started going into to it, then started on the topic of plague. I’ve not finished watching your video yet, so I might be speaking too soon, but do you continue with the war after speaking about the plague? i’m less than 20 minutes from the end of the video.
The videos about Justinian are a collaboration with Robin Pierson (the voice you hear) who makes the history of Byzantium podcast. These videos are heavily based on his telling of Justinian's reign
Really starting to dampen my own obsession with Justinian... the dude just blew through the treasury so fast, and for nothing. Didn't even compeltely take italy, not that it really would've done much, but connecting the balkans back with italia would've been much more solid than leaving it essentially an island peninsula separate from the mainland. And 11k pounds of gold to the persians for what obviously would be a peace MAYBE for a few decades was just insanely dumb.
Why would you want the orthodox to regain control. Was it not the ancient orthodox that stared the wars on false knowledge (that the plague was caused because God didn’t like the people and wanted the land purified.) The orthodox did not believe in the science and caused war for what?
It amazes me that black peoples were blamed for these plagues and blamed and exiled from the land, when in fact it was an actual animal that caused the division of the human race. Thank God we have and trust science to prevent situations like this😑 or do we? Furthermore this is why Muslims and other orthodox religions detest dogs and other animals and why cats were praised. It is also why those cultures favored modest light weight fabric. Light weight fabric that could be washed daily prevented flee infestations. A snake divided man from woman. And a rat and flea crumbled man from God by forcing them to kill each other. Humans will never learn.
Well today's plague on American society.... I'll say it's NOT the flea or the rat. I'll leave the rest unsaid cause that's how modern society likes it. In everybody's face & right there in the open ás to the cause, but don't you dare talk about it or YOU are the actual bad guy!

How do you know, bacteria live millions of years?

Wonder how the world would be if the Perpetual Peace with Persia signed by Justinian was actually long-lasting.

That decree still stands. It's unchangeable. Only a predecessor can pull rank..

The segment on the Plague. Awesome.
Take a look at my Black Death vid - think you’d like that one too
Amazing..can't wait for the continuation with Robin.

Corn was not introduced to Europe until 1493, so it was most likely flour Belisarius mill was set up for in Rome.
Corn was a word used for grain, any grain and did not refer to maize as it now usually does.
