for me, the imperfection of his voice makes it beautiful. add to that the emotion in his voice and the power and depth of the lyrics - La Dispute is such a phenomenal band. they give me chills every time.
It's annoying how many complain about his voice. Sorry it's not auto tuned bullshit. It's raw and emotional, and thats why his songs are. He's singing about love, marriage, divorce and depression, not just sex, drugs and money. It's almost like he's expressing poetry with music, and you listen closely, you notice the pain and hurt in his voice. I love this band, they've gotten me through so much. Thank you boys.
For everyone saying he can't sing: he's not really TRYING to. He's telling a story. If you don't like it, don't listen. He's more famous than you for a reason.
I don't understand people saying they dislike the vocalist......his AMAZING vocals are a large part of what make the song and band AMAZING. So unique and passionate. AMAZING
is it just me, or is La Dispute's music always better on blast in your head phones, rather than out loud ? like youre in a separate world from everyone else, a better world. like, you can focus on the music without worrying about everybody else. just the music.
The build up as his voice gets more and more passionate is just amazing. I understand that harsher vocals aren't for everyone, but that same effect would be difficult to achieve with cleans.
at first the vocals kinda... turned me off but it's not a "song" in the conventional way tbh, it's more like spoken poetry?? sort of like an acquired taste but once you get used to the (lack of) melody and the rough vocals its just gorgeous
What I like best about this track is that it's not a conventional song and you can still hear the raw talent coming from the band. Even though he's technically 'screaming' the words still have musical notes to them, which most songs done in this fashion no longer have today. And the music itself is different, original, haunting.
I'm not a huge fan. But last month, I saw these guys live with my ex, who was a fan of them. I was in front row, when they came on, everyone get excited. They werent even Headlining. Anyway, after their set, I saw a girl crying, Bawling. I asked her whats wrong, because I wanted to be nice Her wrists had A LOT of scars. She looked me in the eyes, and told me that La Dispute saved her life. I thought about it. Words on a page can save a life. They saved some girl, and my ex too. Thank you guys...
I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes, first time hearing these and this song truly got to me, it's so pure and real and you can hear the pain in his voice. Amazing
Brings back sooooo much..... 09-11....the years I almost died....lived in a blackout....sadly those were the best times of my life.... :\ oh how I wish I could go back....
"I think you saw me confronting my fear/ it went up with the bottle and went down with the beer/ and I think you oughtta stay away from here/ there are ghosts in the walls and they crawl in your head through your ear" Encapsulates substance absuse in a relationship so well
Mannnn this brings back memories. Lil 15 year old me going to shows on friday nights in my little famous stars and straps tees 😭 They were the only local band that didn't totally suck. Miss those days. They were the good ones ❤
The voice makes this powerful. It makes you know there's something tearing him apart, and he's so emotional he's in between yelling and talking and singing. Don't say something's terrible when you don't understand it.
yo am i the only one who *DID* love this on first listen? [it helps that i'm really into (post/)hardcore, emo, &c - my fav thing in music is raw emotion]
His voice is definitely something to get use to. You either love it or hate it. It's like "broken" (for lack of a better term) In my opinion, his voice is adorable and I love it. Regardless though, I don't see how anyone could hate the lyrics. They're so passionate and deep and meaningful.
A lot of people find his voice annoying but i enjoy the fact that it sounds like it could be played in a poetry cafe, and the way his voice sounds is just brilliant for the emotional level which he needs to put in the song. These and Touche Amore are brilliant.
this is the first song i ever heard from la dispute. and it will continue to be my favorite. Along with I See Everything. such passion. i wish other people would just LISTEN to this band, and not only how his voice sounds. i wish they could HEAR his passion, FEEL the lyrics.

Really good lyrics, really hard music to get into (in my opinion). I imagine.. doing this is kinda difficult. I have mixed emotions. But I keep listening to it :/
Now this is really based from his life. Jordan has gone through a lot in his life and his music has helped me through a lot. When I went to his first concert it was me and 4 others standing in the cold for a hour. (Ironically I met my first love while waiting for him) he is one of the most humble people you will EVER meet. When I saw him I couldn't hold back and just had to hug him. Just I can go on and on about Jordan and la dispute. All their music will grow on you.
Yeah, I was the same way. I listened once, shunned it and now I'm back to it. It's something to get used to, and even though the voice isn't what I'm used to, I still love it because the lyrics are so raw. It's definitely new, which I've been needing. Y'know?
I thought I hated this at first but then it grew on me and that seems impossible for a 2 minute song but wow was this a lot of emotion for such a short song
I heard this and thought "those are some interesting vocals" but the more I listened to other songs, and then went back to this song, I decided it was perfect
This gives a pretty bad image to the band being the most popular song. I love La Dispute, and this song is algoods as an intro to Somewhere or starting a set, but that's kinda it. If you heard this you'd expect them to be a typical post hardcore band, but if you've listened to any other song (bar a few) you would know you are very misguided. Post-hardcore. As for bands: Hotel Books, some stuff of BMTH, A Day To Remember (some punk-ish, some metalcore songs too), flatline, dandelion hands (more spoken genre), nothing, nowhere. Just try some of that, idk.
It's post hardcore. The other guy gave you lame bands. Some better ones are At The Drive-In, Hüsker Du, NoMeansNo, Slint, and Refused. Those are the 90's-early 2000's post hardcore bands that really helped shape the genre. If you listen to La Dispute enough you can easily hear how Slint and Refused really inspired their music directly. As for newer/new-ish post hardcore bands you could listen to La Dispute, Touché Amoré, Mclusky, The Fall of Troy, Gospel, Circle Takes The Square, and Evny. Those are just some beginners, listen to those and see what you like and eventually go on to exploring to the genre yourself if you like anything you hear. Glad to help.
Nice Thank you good sir, I literally laugh at my own comment. (I like those bands, it just isn't really post-hardcore in general ways.) Cheers, i love these recommendations myself.
Everything is in his voice. He seems... broken... it's beautiful and terrible in the same time.
+Kakusareta ' its beautifully sad
anna mariagiw: Yes, it is... That's why I love this song
+Kakusareta ' minus the beautiful.

@@summerstorm_ Uhm. So does that mean... Like what are you saying? 😂. Also hopefully i have reminded you of this song
Guys, this guy isn't meant to sound pleasing to the ear. He is deliberately trying to sound broken and and emotional.

That's what she said. Sorry lol but I definitely agree
Frr
I feel like this song and "Nobody, Not Even The Rain," should be combined instead of two songs because they connect in such a beautiful way.
They are supposed to be connected, but they are the intro and the outro of the album so that doesn't work.
I think the thing i love about this song is that you get that sense of emotion in his voice and they dont tell more of a story with their music.
You serious? I tought this song was a joke?
DNLYUSEmeBIADE they are a real band with actual fans. i happen to be one.
such small hands is the worst example of them telling a story in a song
honestly I would say that just the small little details of the sounds and intense moments of the song tell more of a story than the lyrics do
I only just found this song today,
holy shit,
i cant even describe how i feel right now.
this song is speaking to me on a whole new level..

it’s been 7 years you still listening to it?

auriela He's not screaming as much as trying to rap. It somehow manages to work really well, though, and the song gives me chills.
Old but sing and rap and yelling are all still linked to notes
I listen to rap music mostly . Man this dude went offfff . This is a good song
Someone should create a 1 hour version
this is one of those songs you could play on repeat and it'll never get old
