@mitchellpeck592 Unlikely. I'd say only authorised persons can access that. For the privacy, confidentiality, and decency towards the uncle and other people that wish not to be on the internet.
This a track off of a concept album from the point of view of a man that is having a very hard time coming to terms with what his life means and questioning if he should keep going. This is the first part of a 3 track run near the end of the album of him recalling stories from his past, hearing people tell stories of horrible moments from their past and wondering what was it that let them keep going on. In this story here, he wasn't even party to the events, just something he heard on the news. He's basically having an out of body experience and going back in time, a specter viewing the story from a 3rd person view, wondering how someone handles doing something that the subject of the story went through. This story is based on a true series of events that happened in Grand Rapids, MI, where La Dispute is from.
Great comment. The running theme of the album is the narrator is struggling with his own suffering but also struggling with how minor it appears next to what others have gone through. I’m crippled by a break up - how do others lose a child to cancer and keep going?
I love this song and it kills me every time. The line that always starts the teary tingles is "I see them younger this time, playing games and doing homework"
If you guys dig this, their whole discography is amazing. They're really good at portraying stories in their songs, been a fan of them since like 2013!
I’ve seen them play this one live (almost close enough to touch the stage) and it is intense. The whole crowd shouting along to the “Can I still get into heaven…” part. Chills
i read that line when i was .. 11 or 12? on a lyric page. i was hardcore christian and didn’t understand. it was a few years, age 15? i heard this song, and i realized these lyrics were from that post i misunderstood.. hit me so much harder. never listened without goosebumps
This song was devastating for me the first time I heard it. I was tearing up when the interlude came in with the line about a mother bury her child… hits like a truck
This is one of those songs where you can't put words to. You can just look at someone else who listened to it and nod. That ending will never not shake me.
I love the analysis of the song and glad you enjoyed this story. La Dispute took this real story that shook a community to highlight the heaviness. Loved watching the breakdown y’all.
this whole fucking album is a masterpiece, la dispute has a unique way of portraying stories, listening to their music you're able to paint a mental picture of whats going on in their songs, I highly recommend their other songs 1. Edward Benz, 27 Times 2. I See Everything King Park is based on a real shooting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Kyle Keenan(20) shot David Witherspoon(16) after Kyle flees to a motel and is then surrounded by cops, his Uncle, called him over the phone telling him to turn himself over to the cops which is why Kyle asks "can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?" Kyle was pronounced dead in the motel with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head most if not all of La Disputes Wildlife album is based on events that happened in Grand Rapids Michigan, wither experienced by him and friends or stories passed around by media or gossip
King Park is an insanely impactful track, glad you took a look at it even though I know la dispute aren't necessarily your style. Great to hear your thoughts!!!
Im sure someone has said this because this isnt a super new video, but I strongly believe it's all told from the perspective of the lead singer. He heard about this happening in his home town and this song is his way of trying to understand why.
It is. Or rather it’s the POV of a nameless bystander who is trying to make sense of the senseless violence by traveling the emotions of the people involved
Saw them live a few months ago and it was truly such a hype emotional vibe. My 2012 emo self was so happy😭 Please listen to them more!! Their story telling is amazing
Its quite the reflection of what goes on in this world to the point you guys were joking about the line, "just like last month (or was it last week?!)" But it also shows the impact of how great the storytelling is when the lyrics, conveyed with the vocal styling, sobered you up in just a few lines when they mentioned the unintended target being a kid. Im a fairly new father, my first and only , just four yrs old. And its stories like this that inspire me to be a better father, to make the best out of life for all of my loved ones, cuz we never know when we'll get side swiped by unintentional death. And the ending gets me too, the reality of the shooters situation.
i felt the mix of emotions through every segment and lyric of the song.. just like me , even now. goosebumps and even tears if i’m especially emotional when hearing agaun
I don't know how you guys go about choosing songs for these videos, but this song, Edward Benz 27 Times, and I See Everything are all songs about stories the lead singer was told, or events that happened around him that shaped his worldview very heavily, and these stories and their messages come together later in the album in the song "All Our Bruised Bodies And The Whole Heart Shrinks"
My idea has always been it’s from the perspective of someone (perhaps also young) who watched this kid die but didn’t see it happen so his dreams are haunted by this crime scene, so he’s trying to figure out the reason why this kid got killed & slowly realizes that there really is no reason for “senseless” violence, it’s in the name. Beautifully haunting jam tho always loved this song
He didn’t figure it out. The perspective is of a “fly on the wall” for the whole song. First indication of this is “And I travel backwards through time and space And I disintegrate, become invisible I wanna see it where I couldn't when it happened I wanna see it all first hand this time I wanna know what it felt like…. From here it’s him “traveling through time and space” to be close to all of the effected individuals, ending with him outside the window of the hotel looking in.
Mad respect for branching out in your music but he fully describes how he is just imagining what happened when talking about the shooting with someone else who also wasnt there. La dispute always says so much in a few words so understandable that a song you hear one time you miss a little bit of set up
He’s remote viewing the scene through astral projection . Look it up. It’s a real thing. You can go to clinics that literally help you meditate out of your body
I always find it fascinating when youtubers who generally listen to rap, check out hardcore. For a little while there they had very similar vibes and you can even find hardcore (or hardcore adjacent) samples on a few songs. If you liked King Park, I would highly recommend checking out some Touché Amoré or Title Fight.
dudes, if you are ready to go down the rock music path, there is so much heart and meaning in most of it. I have been mixing bands for 20+ years and can pummel you with vital recommendations. Start with Boysetsfire - White Wedding Dress, Thursday - War All of The time, Glassjaw - Piano, Knocked Loose - Mistakes like fractures, Kublai Khan - Swan Song
i love u guys but ur overthinking this. its not the pov of thru the spirit of the shooter or kid, its just the narrator- as the lyrics say- wanting to see what happened and see it up close, following everyone who witnessed it or was involved.
This song is based on a true story. The shooter did in fact take his own life.
Incident happened near where two of the band members worked, singer said it shows the brutality of everyday life.
The Shooter who ended his own life called his uncle while the police were outside and said "Will I still get into heaven if I killed myself?"
@@simply_titanIs there a audio recording or something on the internet of that phone call?
@mitchellpeck592 Unlikely. I'd say only authorised persons can access that. For the privacy, confidentiality, and decency towards the uncle and other people that wish not to be on the internet.
Now we know how it ends
"i felt the burdon of murder that shook the earth to the core"
....faaark.

Yeah I came to say this. The speaker is a narrator, and you have to hear the whole album to understand it 100%
Great comment. The running theme of the album is the narrator is struggling with his own suffering but also struggling with how minor it appears next to what others have gone through. I’m crippled by a break up - how do others lose a child to cancer and keep going?

me too. that line is genuinely one of the hardest hitting lines I've ever heard in a song.
If you guys dig this, their whole discography is amazing. They're really good at portraying stories in their songs, been a fan of them since like 2013!
Then the wind picked up. *jazz hands windchimes*

Yes! Their live shows are so cathartic with everyone screaming the lyrics at each other. So good!!
I was SO confused seeing this pop up on my notifications-! But the emo inside of me was like “CLICK VIDEO NOW”
This song was devastating for me the first time I heard it. I was tearing up when the interlude came in with the line about a mother bury her child… hits like a truck
I just found this song a couple weekend ago. It tears me up but damn is it some top level song writing.
you and i in unison is one of the most beautiful and sad songs ever written. i almost shed a tear sometimes when i hear it
Yeah, what an awesome track that is!!
Man I love You and I in Unison ❤️
This is one of those songs where you can't put words to. You can just look at someone else who listened to it and nod. That ending will never not shake me.

"I see everything" has to be next in line.
“But still it’s hard sometimes to see him in that scarecrow frame!” = CHILLS
I did not expect y’all to react to this, but I’m glad you did
Oh man, please more of these. I love this band, you can't go wrong with a single song.
I just found this, I’m so glad yall were put on to La Dispute. I’m subbed.
you REALLY wanna get fucked up? same album - listn to I See Everything. About a kid dying of cancer. a beautiful and heart wrenching track.
Saw them live a few months ago and it was truly such a hype emotional vibe. My 2012 emo self was so happy😭 Please listen to them more!! Their story telling is amazing
i stipl havnt got to see them been a fan since 2011
These guys are from michigan, where king park is. This was a real shooting and its based on a true story.
i love that you pause through the video to address certain lyrics. many hate it but it’s what i seek in reactions
Mad, I love La Dispute never ever thought I'd see yous listening to them

I can't unhear The Police drum beats at the start, lol. Cheers and thanks for that. 😂
It’s all about pausing the song a ton of times during the best parts to give theories rather than take it in and give theories afterwards.
OG LD fan way late but still just wanna say congrats for discovering them. Listen to Rhodonite and Grief

These dudes are smart af, when the guy on the left figured out the whole narrative at like 4 mins in i was impressed

It’s crazy because my favorite rock band is La Dispute, and my favorite modern rap group is $uicideboy$, I’m well fed coming to this channel lol
Goong to need a BIG🥄 ✌️🍻
Love my friends La Dispute!

You guys need to do the song Edward Benz 27 times!

Reminds me of me withoutyou.
He's just a 3rd person omniscient observer/narrator.
A Voyeur/Watcher.
Who in the end FAFO'd.
Thanks for sharing this even though it may not fit your demographic. Put me on your channel so that’s sick
🧡
Or how many kids got shot ? Could of been two
Nice reaction. It wasn't told from the perspective of the shooter or the victim though.
Yeah it's definitely a bystanders point of view.
@Michael-kn2hz it's the perspective of someone who is affected by the impact to the community who wasnt present or involved. So not even a bystander
yeah reactionist shouldn't try to come up with the story ahead of time or with hypotheticals, just listen man.
Theyre the story tellers not you
Can i still get into heaven if i kill myself?
Dont know, so I wouldn't try it 🙏🍻
