    No truer words have been spoken then when you said, "prep is all the key to tiling". After doing tile for a lot of years I figure I should learn about these spacers. I have never used a spacer other than on walls.

    Can you use these tile spacers to align the swimming pool tiles? Unless you nail the spacers in place then I couldn't use them.

    For me, it's the Schluter corners that get built up and causes tiling to be a headache. Might give these a try though.

      It really depends on what size tile you are installing I use 12 spacers on a 12”x24” tile laying the tile on a brick pattern. Hope that will help

    I've use this leveling system and I don't quite like them, every time you tight them, they slide and create a bigger space then they intended to, that's on the floor, I haven't try them on the wall

    • @crdriscoll1
      @crdriscoll1  3 роки тому +2

      I see your point that definitely will happen not so much on a wall but you got to make sure you don’t over tighten with the pliers I like to hand set the use pliers and eye the tile to make sure it don’t move.

      @@crdriscoll1 Amazing the amount of names used in America for what we call tile adhesive in England, l've heard it called (in America) glue, thin set, mud and adhesive, are there any more? A bathroom installer from England.

      I think these are practical with rectified and 2'x2', and 2'x4' in main traffic areas. Showers are not practical, these things don't get them 100% flat...and tbh i can lay tile just as flat without these a bit quicker..but some floors are so fucked up that these things actually really did come in handy. I just dont think they are necessary for every tile, or every tile installation you do. You can make walls flat by touch, rubbing your fingers over the lips of the tiles resting on eachother without spacers, use a level to make sure you aren't building the wall out..then space them out after you have them where you need. And always stairstep your rows when installing.. A lot of jobs you don't get time to sit there and be nit picky with floating walls and doing "perfect prep"...so you get dramatically better setting tile over wavy substrates and learn how to read wall/floors better by seeing how much thinset is under the tile after you've set it. then the next row in that same spot u can expect it to be a hump/dip and roll with the floor..same with showers, and look at a side profile when you are coming back in with your cuts to see how wavy that wall is. Helps you understand how to apply more and less thinset as well and using your trowels properly.. Obviously if you're on your game and there is plenty to do on a job its easy to come in real quick and skim coat low spots on floors/walls while doing something else..tomato, tomatoe... My opinion it's better to learn without these and get excellent, and use these sparingly on those rollercoaster floors with LFT's.

    How do you know what to set the pliers to

    • @crdriscoll1
      @crdriscoll1  3 роки тому +2

      Basically it’s all about not over tighten the spacers. If over tightened the will break off. So I set my pliers accordingly to thickness of the tile I’m installing. Best rule of thumb that I have learned is I’ll install a couple of the wedges by hand and gage my pliers off of that. Hope this helps

      They are Raimondi Tile Spacers, not sure where the QEP Home Depot tile spacers came from in your comment?

  • @Antiorganizer
    @Antiorganizer Рік тому +1

    Those things cause problems! They stick underneath the tile, and raises the tiles away from the surface too much! It becomes easy to not end up with enough mortar and a tile can become loose. Or even accumulate water behind it as a result.
    You end up having to add a whole lot of extra mortar to ensure it's thick enough.
    So, the directions you see from things like the Schluter Allset and whatnot, that tell you what trowel to you, that information goes out the window, because it's incorrect, because those darn spacers lifted the tiles up. If only these things were hair thin, but they're not. They're thick as hell.
    Bad product, not designed right at all! Beware. Shitty tile jobs as a result all over !!!

    • @crdriscoll1

      They have never gave me a problem I always use 1/2”x1/2” sq notch but I lay larger tile with these have not used little tile with these spacers but I get what you are saying. Thanks for watching
