    I have found that every time I clip a branch or shoot on a Crepe Myrtle , at least three grow back in its place. Last year after doing a ridiculous amount of research, I found something called Sucker Punch. It is a thick liquid that you apply to each cut on the tree, it contains some kind of plant hormone that tells the tree to stop sprouting at that spot but it does not harm the health of the tree. The stuff is amazing! This year I have hardly any pruning that needs done on my Crepe Myrtles.

      Yeah the do grow back fast. I’m going to check that out because if you don’t have to prune as many off in the future it’s less stress on the tree. Thanks! Thanks for watching!

    You guys need a wood chipper/shredder given all the pruning you do plus it gives you great compost/mulch for the garden. If you do have one would love to see it in action with your pruning etc. Have a great day.

      We don’t have one and that’s a great idea so maybe in the future we will get one! Thanks for watching!

    Nice ! I kinda went crazy and planted 30 crapes in my yard , different colors . I bought them in one gallon containers most were a foot tall 2 years ago. Most are 3 feet now. Will they still bloom if you prune them this part of the year ? A lot of them have branches 4 to 6 feet high but are thin and are reaching west but I hate to prune them even if it looks better.

      Thanks for watching! It usually takes 3 to 5 years for trees to bloom if they are young. If you need to prune them then you can but I would do as little as possible no more then a 1/3 if that. They could still bloom in late summer even if you prune them back. Crape Myrtles bloom on new wood. Hope that helps.

      Yes as long as you are not in a drought situation.

      I am in Texas and we are always short on water. I have an overgrown crepe Myrtle that is still green but has lots of dead branches. When should I try to prune back?

    • @happysfamilywnc
      @happysfamilywnc  2 місяці тому

      @fanyflores9780 any dead should be pruned out anytime, if you want to do more of a pruning then wait until after it flowers and before early next spring. You just don’t want to prune anything off after late March so it will flower this season.
