  • How to create a multi-trunk tree using watersprouts and suckers. In this week's episode I start the journey to recover a Crape Myrtle which was in a mess with most of the tree half dead. So I selected the best branches on one side of the tree and coppiced the other half and now I set out to use both watersprouts and suckers to use as new trunks. I explain how to choose the correct ones (verticality, proximity, etc). Here, there is room for error because you are going to get repeat watersprouts and suckers so if a stem that you have chosen fails, you can try again, and again, until the shape and separation is what you are looking for.
