You realized by now that, at the end, you should have waited until all fuel was drained before re-inserting the plug that was in your left hand?

I thought the system had to be purged before disconnecting pressured fuel line.

I don’t know but I thought you had to purge the system before removing the fuel line?

Will the fuel pump be damaged as a result of running the pump dry?

Too easy? Got a 90 Sporty with BAD gas and don't wanna buy or steal a vacuum petcock pump?
Hate to dis-assemble and invert and use GRAVITY them reassemble but , is there any other way?

Or just drain the gas normal?
