Happy little rifles. Wonderful
Ha ha, That explains why I want to paint friendly little clouds on my AK.
"There's no right or wrong." Good luck.
Caleb has better hair than Bob
You must have never seen PSR on UA-cam
As an automotive painter many tips in this video is what we teach when painting cars 👍🏽
thank you for a very informative video ,
Painted a 15 inch midwest industries combat rail and upper receiver with the magpul fde alumahyde II and it came out awesome. Been a solid finish for a few years now. Great in depth video
How durable is this paint? Will it take bumps and scraps?
@@chrissewell1608 it is the most durable paint I've ever used
I didn’t do any of those things still got a great finish. Alumahyde good stuff. Been 5-6 years. Looking at painting for a new project.
Great videos Caleb.. Keep them coming....
Excellent tutorial. Thanks 👍
Great video!
Great how to video. Glad I watched this first. 💯
Glad your doing this series, would be interesting to touch on ammo patterns, colors, techniques and layering colors, layering coats of paint. If you want to compile everything but I’ve seen a lot of others making videos on regular paint jobs. 🎨
Mondays video will cover a basic camo pattern.
I bet Caleb's house Is so perfect and clean! ❤
I’ve been painting cars in a collision environment for the past 20 yrs. The #1 best tip for application is so not apply the paint so wet! Especially on 1st coat. Med wet coats until coverage is achieved will give the best results and better for curing.
Looking forward to my Aluma-Hyde project.
I used Alumahyde black to update a rusty XD slide. Fantastic stuff, and easy to use.
Only happy accident trees grow on your modern art masterpiece AR - Caleb Ross
That hair is what makes Caleb what you would call a Hard Top Convertible. Still sayin' that the hair is removable, and with it off, you get, Caleb, the regular guy look. Put it on, and Caleb, master gun guru.
🅱️aint it!
They make a thing that you can put on a spray can to where you dont use your finger to push the button. You use two fingers and squeeze it. Works a whole lot better and you dont get the paint all over your fingers. And the thing doesnt cost that much and is reusable.
Great Stuff 💯 Thank you 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
In regards to getting your glove in the way of the nozzle, you should be holding your finger back far enough to preclude you spraying your finger tip. Another option is to wrap all 4 fingers around the can and use the tip of your thumb to press down directly on the nozzle, easing the strain on your finger and further preventing you getting a digit in front of the nozzle.
I have used this stuff a few times, you really have to be patient, I let mine hang to dry & cure for at least 2 weeks
Great
I paint and then let it set for 7 days then I pop it in my oven for 2 hours at 195 , no smell no nothing and it makes sure its a good hard finish before I start installing parts
Man, I’ve used countless cans of Aluma-Hyde and spray paint on my guns and I still learned a few things by watching this.
There’s so many different/contradicting posts and vids out there on applying Aluma-Hyde. I’m glad you put one out straight from the horses mouth.
Your comment about loose gloves literally just happened to me last week with your Earth Brown going on a 10-22… Totally my fault but luckily I caught it instantly and didn’t end up with any runs. Solid series here Bro. Thanks.
WWDD....🅱️ain't it!
Thanks a lot for the content! Will be the aluma Hyde also available on german brownells onlinestore? Greetings from Germany
Good tutorial. Seems to me that spraying the inside first lightly would be the first thing to prevent handling the outside trying to do it after it's been sprayed. Any overspray or build up on the inside after spraying the outside vent surfaces wouldn't be visible anyway.
Wish you guys had some of the bronze colors
Can you do a video on the best way to get the paint off?
I see some parts with hideous paint jobs that could be salvaged if brought back to an unpainted part.
Use a lazy Susan type rotisserie to hang parts like that. Makes painting work easier.
What commercial ovens do you guys recommend new to painting and too inpatient to wait two weeks
An old gas grill makes a good paint oven, as long as you NEVER cook with it again! And you can control the temps low enough, and the paint does NOT catch on fire!
Can you speed cure it at lower temperatures? For example 140 for 6 hours? Is there a chart showing cure time vs temp?
You said you could cure Aluma-Hyde by heating it to 195 degrees for 3 1/2 hours, will that work for a synthetic stock? Will that temperature damage the stock and forearm?
Wolf Gray being delivered tomorrow! I don’t want to use our kitchen oven to cure, can I technically cure by hand using a heat gun (receivers and hand guard) while monitoring with a temp gun? Keep around 195 and sit there for 3 hours lol 😂. I don’t want to wait 2 weeks for air cure, I want to assemble and go to our range ASAP!
Is it best to allow it to cure naturally over the 10-14 vs oven? Is one better than the other?
A black trash bag a few bricks and a sheet of glass makes a good solar oven.
Yes it works.
How long does it take to "do" your hair ? Do a video on that🎉
50-50 overlapping at a 45° angle
STILL DON'T HAVE THE DAMN NOZZLES " IN STOCK ".
If you put it in the Microwave is the time shorter, LOL.
Yeah for the microwave 😂
@@MoY206 I remember years ago when I put a piece of meat in with " TIN FOIL " WOW SPARKS ALL OVER THE PLACE, I DIDN'T KNOW. It was cool though, LOL.
Just use your meat smoker like the rest of us, ha-ha!
Will plastic grips be ok at 195 degrees for 3 hours or will that generally be a problem?
Seems like it would melt after heating it that long...?
Big 🅱️aint hero
GOBBLES
@@cajunmaker6917HA BARB LET U PAINT UR GAT TOO HOSS? BARB SAID NO HAWG CRANKIN WHILE THE PAINT DRIES !
BLESS !
Damn ya did it sir,🅱️ain't be with you.
Put on a big afro wig for the next video Bob Ross....
My AK barrel is phosphate finish, so sometimes when I stay outside it gets surface rust, I am considering painting it, but I think the paint will just burn off the barrel when I shoot. What is the best solution for protecting a phosphate coated barrel from surface rust?
High heat paint or just keep touching it up every now and then
Field maintenance. Clp before snuggling into the bivy sack, CLP after waking up.
@@Rudyelf1 CLP smells pretty loud! lol
What chemical do you recommemd to clean the spray tips with? Acetone, mineral spirits, what?
Ah..."Acetone!" I asked to soon. 😊
Just one coat is enough?
I usually put 3 thin coats on but that depends on how much coverage you're getting.
Or what color you're painting over & thickness of your coats.
@@NoWr2Run I have done 3 thin coats on the couple things I've done so that's why I asked. It seems to be holding up well although the one project hasn't seen much use (turkey gun in 12ga super mag) and the other I just finished (9mm carbine)
Caleb always does one coat only. Alumahyde is meant to go on thin and if you are using the proper spray technique, one coat is plenty. Remember, any additional coats must be done within 30 min of the first coat or after the coat is fully cured.
@@mattfreimark5248 My experience also & it was my Turkey Gun, LOL.
Didn't do any of my AR'S yet bought what colors I wanted so far.
@@brownells I did the coats all within that time frame.
Psh Psh
Does anyone have a Bob Ross wig that they could send to Caleb? He could at least do one of his shorts with it and that would stop all of the rude comments about his hair😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh ,just so you can show people how scientific you really are ,the reason the paint won't adhere until it's fully cured is because the pain produces gas as it dries and if you put a coat on before that stops the paint can't bond to the vapor being released .
We love ya bro but wtf is up with the sideburns
Step 1: remove socks
Can you just make a God damn purple alumihide already and stop teasing me wolf Grey and purple ar drools
Good to see LGBT members joining in on the gun culture.
