I agree with everything you're saying. People are who critical of Bonamassa are being ridiculous. He is absolutely the best when it comes to the marriage between technical playing and soul. It simply is not done better than this performance. As far as it being someone's favorite, it's a matter of taste of course, but I'm not talking preferences. It simply is what it is. His vocals on this are the same way. Thanks for the heads up on the video release.
I agree Randy - Joe doesn't get the recognition he deserves. This is a great song from the Rockpalast concert, and I think "Takin' the Hit" is just as impressive.
@@chuckdunkhase5103 I guess you can't compare them - Eric is a solo bass player par excellence and Michael (sadly) was the strong backbone for many great bands ...
He's great. I'll be 74 in February and I never heard of him until about 8 years ago. He's definitely fantastic. Totally awesome. Can't believe it took me so long to find him unless I was to drunk or high to know him
That trio was a special thing. The bass player is one of the best, a guy who can read the song from every direction, and knows when to overplay it. He looks like he has fun doing it too. The drummer is much the same. This concert opens with him playing a nice fast groove to start “Taking the hit.” When you hear it, you just know it’s going to be a great show.
To me, the most amazing thing about Joe's vocals is the fact that he didn't really sing until he left Bloodline. He woodsheded and worked with vocal coaches and practiced his butt off until he got it right. Yeah, he's a musical giant, but he's also a hard working man.
I really like this guy! And I ain't just talking about Joe either! Everything you said in reaction to this incredible version of Blues Deluxe is the same way I feel about it. We could easily be best friends and I want to hang out with you and listen to some great Blues music! Love you, man.
Joe gets so much flack its amazing. Can anyone look at him play and not see his heart soul mind coming out of his body?! Thanks for posting this. Joe is doing so much to keep the blues alive.❤
That was great. So glad you appreciate his old stuff like this 65 year old. Eric czar and kenny Kramer with Joe an incredible trip. Keep up the good work ✌️✌️✌️
Even though it's been a year since you reacted to this song....I'm just watching it and I have no fear at all about Joe disappointing you or anyone as far as that goes . He's in my top 3 guitarist of all time . Now that's what I'm talking about !
I absolutely agree with you 100%. I love older Joe stuff with just a trio. I just love listening to Joe Bonamassa play the guitar play that guitar at any point in his career, but some of the older performances of his you can find on UA-cam are absolutely phenomenal. I think the rendition of "Mountain Time" from this same Rockpalast show is breathtaking! The guitar at the end of this version gives me chills every time I watch it. I bought the DVD of the show many years ago now, and I love it. Excellent video sir...thank you so much👏👏👏.
Joe Bonamassa is in my top 3 guitarists of all time . He's the King of Blues for this generation I believe and everyone has their own opinion and that's mine.
Devon -- The new Joe is still mind numbing good and is very willing to share the stage with other great talents. Listen to "riding with the Kings' he is fantastic in a more subtle way backing the great talent Mahalia Barnes . Great review thanks !
Some other great tunes from that era are Reconsider Baby and Pain And Sorrow from 2004 -2005 . If you can find them check out the live sets from Tangier . I filmed them but youtube wiped out my entire channel a couple of years ago , but I think that a guy in Holland mirrored my entire channel and still has them up.
I miss the old Joe with the hard core blues rather than the rock and technical sounds he's been coming up with the past few years. Your reaction to Blues Deluxe is priceless. I love watching you almost as much as I love the music. Keep it up,bro.
My man, your facial expressions, LMAO im feelin that. I do the same. Seen pics of myself contorted. Joe and Erik together are awesome...... Their battle together of John Henery is absolutely amazing. Thier friendship, love for the blues and each others talents wnd skills shines out for the world to feel..?? 🎶🤘👍💯JB and EG 💙💜🎸I LOVE YOU
Realize Joe has had a guitar in his hand since he was 8 or 9 years old as a teen he was jamming with the old great blues players on stage. A true phenomenon .
Just saw Joe last night in San Antonio... he doesn't look or act like he's ready to retire any time soon! He and his band were on point all night. Tons of energy and they all looked like they were having a great time. One of my favorites was when Joe did an extended "call and response" with Reese Wynans. Both had big grins on their faces as they traded licks. Outstanding! I'm guessing you've seen the video of Joe and Eric on the 2019 Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea cruise. ua-cam.com/video/e2KTFeapTas/v-deo.html. Saw Joe when he played with his 'power quartet' in Austin last April. Just him, Anton Fig on drums, Steve Mackey on bass, and Jade MacRae providing backup vocals.

This man has mad skills for days if you're not careful you'll go down a Blues road and never come back sort of like I did. Yep went down the pathway of blues with Joe and a woman named Beth Hart and I haven't returned yet. So many different artists there. I still like other music but my go to DVD is Joe. The guys great
Loved the reaction. Seen Joe 6 times and I agree, like his old stuff best. New more polished stuff gets wider audience I guess. Joe produced Eric's new album I believe. Peace
Devon, I agree with you 💯 % about JB's older blues - such passion, tone, and fury. if you thought that was great, watch "Takin' the Hit" from the same concert, Live at Rockpalast. It'll blow you away.
100% agree about old Joe. People got on his case about 'overplaying', and in interviews, you can see it kinda got to him a bit. It's an absurd criticism. There's no shame in playing what you feel! It's all about feel and improvisation, why should we not let the man fly?
Yes he has god given talent but he makes a point to say 90% hard work and we are talking about playing close to 365 days a year 5 hours or more a day, so we are talking about 1000s and 1000s and 1000s of hours of learning everything he could about gear and how to get sounds out of it. He is phenomenal. 😎🎸🎙️🔥
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Awesomeness. Thank you Devon. Hope you do more. Joe and Beth Hart are phenomenal. They do a redition of Id Rather go Blind. Hope u check it out
One of Joe's best. A masterclass in blues guitar that only a handful of men can achieve. What a talent. One of the GOATS! Great reaction brother!
Thanks! 🤘🏾
everytime I watch Joe, I say to myself, I don't practice near enough.

Joe is very technically sound, and can play with a lot of soul!
I agree Randy - Joe doesn't get the recognition he deserves. This is a great song from the Rockpalast concert, and I think "Takin' the Hit" is just as impressive.
Joe's on another level, for sure. But let's give some love to his bassman, who was doing some amazing stuff of his own there...
He most definitely did
That's an amazing bass player. He still isn't Michael Rhodes though. Michael is a beast.
For sure he was playing a great bass
Eric Czar !

There is really no way to describe such talent its just unreal. He is up there with the best ever ever.....

Love it when Joe and Eric take the stage together, they really push each other.
Nothing but facts on that
Omg this is the first time I've heard the old Joe Bonamassa
Badass!
He is such a great blues singer too!

The duel they played of John Henry is amazing!!!

I never heard of him before this video he is great. Just got into blues music with SRV. I live the guitar playing on this one.
Joe is The King. Beth Hart is The Queen
You are spot on about “the old Joe Bonamassa”. He is one of greatest of all time but like all performers, his style changes over the years.
Nice comments on this video. It was a pleasure to hear some analysis of the way this was performed.
