@@dannymcguire3623If you!re not going to use him why would you let him get worse by not giving him minutes. Its better to trade him if you want OO to progress and start
Finally someone acknowledging Okongwu. His stats already say a lot averaging 10, 7, and a block per night on 23 minutes is very impressive considering he's on the backup center role, and as you said in this video, I also love his strength and athleticism making him comparable to bam adebayo - an all-star caliber center which is also undersized but plays bigger than he is. Thanks for the vid man
I love those in-depth analyses of lesser known, less appreciated players; it is such a breath of fresh air from the media landscape focused on rehashing the same old points about the few megastars
From the moment that the Hawks drafted OO, I think the expectation was always that one day, he would replace Clint. It looks like that time has come. Great video!!!!
What i like more from him is his lateral mobility, thats why he can be interesting starting, as he is basically the same player ad Capela on offense so he is going to give you the same there. If Capela is traded, and Dallas seems to be the place, i think i would want draft compensation or, make it a 3 team deal to get a defensive minded PF that can play open
he's a much better finisher around the rim + as you say, much more laterally mobile. not to knock Clint's tireless running of the floor, rim threat and elite offensive rebounding, just that O is a safer pair of hands when it comes to getting buckets
As a grizzlies fan he does what Steven adams does which is set brick wall screens so the pg can use that as a launch pad to get the roll defender to step up or back off which leaves open the floater, midrange shot or shot at the basket and if the team send help that leaves shooters on the wings or corner open. This helps players like tre,ja and it helped Westbrook get his mvp
nah, okongwu is more mobility based setups, he lets other players control the play. Adams is more like a dominant presence owning the paint and setting up passes. both are top off ball forces, similar roles to the team, however they do so with different team play styles. if i had to explain how i think about them, adams is like a norse viking in being stoick, where as okongwu is more like a samurai, strong in presence but flowing in his attacks.
u doing a great job with thumbnails titles and content first and foremost so many hoop channels tryna do the same thing same thumbnails same titles u actually landing the execution for the most part, succinct, balanced, actually accurate, detailed and little hyperbole good shit man
Capela is a good player but Okongwu is basically the same but have better potential than Capela. That's why I like them to trade Capela for a 3-d wing if its possible but if not, I'm ok keeping him but I want Okongwu to start.
It’s a skill to set that grey area screen that you act like your just trying to adjust your self after the screen but it’s more of a moving screen I LIKE IT! Gotta be smart to do it.
i hate this watching modern nba always doing illegal screens. 90s screening was perfect with stockton malone as the best example. guards know how to wait and use screens. modern day guards just use athleticism and speed with the risk of commiting illegal screens
He still really needs to work on his fouls averaging 3.1 fouls in 23 minutes which is one of the worst marks among centers, on the positive side his fouls per 36 have decreased every season
Why do i feel like im the only one who thinks okongwu needs a bigger role. I think he still has a ways to hit his ceiling but i think he has tons of potential to get there. And thats from just a fan of basketball and a pistons fan.
If illegal screen setting is a skill then getting to the line should 100% be considered a skill too. James Harden got so good at it the league started to punish him for it and people hated/discredited him. That’s hypocrisy. If bending the rules to your will is okay once, it’s okay all the time.
They should go ahead and let Clint go , it’s not that he’s a bad player. He’s just redundant. You know what your going to get from Clint. I think OO ceiling is higher. He’s a good defender to help protect Trey Young as the video shows.
the problem with the nba is exactly that notion of refs picking and choosing when to enforce certain rules or not. being selective like that brings games into question and really the league into question in terms of how true is the sport? how can i trust the nba champions at the end of the year when the refs dont follow any particular set of rules. the rules seemingly are there or arent there conveniently depending on the player or the team on the court. why should i be invested in a sport thats inconsistent with its ruling and has blatant biases for higher paid and more well known names. thats not how this sport should be played at a professional level. you have a rule book. enforce the rules consistently. you got one job.
It’s a bit complicated for him to be an all time starting center because the limitations he has on his size and strength. His best role should be that multipositional PF like JJJ but his lack of shooting makes it difficult to put him at 4
@@Thebackendhugo3229 Well, that's also because of a non-defenseive backcourt and being their best 3&D wing is Isaac Okoro. Compared to ATL having Dejounte & Hunter on the perimeter. you got a point on the Playoffs, but they still have depth to bench Capela or Okongwu if really needed. But against teams like Bucks & Sixers, gives a good chance
Illegal screens won the Golden State Warriors go last championship as a Celtic fan that finals was so hard for me to watch cuz all I could see was Draymond Green and kayvon luzy sitting illegal screen after illegal screen there was one possession I wash green monster at 3 illegal screens in the same possession literally walking backwards into a defender
Considering he was drafted 3yrs ago and missed a chunk of 2nd season with a shoulder operation, its nice to see someone who follows him closely chime in...
Should Onyeka Okongwu be the starting center for Atlanta next year? If so, should they trade Clint Capela?
Capela can still be a rim runner/lob threat…keep Capela, stagger them and let them square off for minutes.
There’s absolutely no way you should bench CC. If OO is starting Clint is gone
yes
@@dannymcguire3623If you!re not going to use him why would you let him get worse by not giving him minutes. Its better to trade him if you want OO to progress and start
That was always the plan, and yes, OO should start.
He also played on the undefeated chino hills team with the ball brothers
Amazing
As a freshman

Shoutout to you, for giving OO some love. I really hope he breaks out this year
Was harping on Okongwu to my friends all season and even picked him to win 6MOTY. Glad I’m not the only one who sees something special there.
One of my favourite young players in the league, I was expecting a major breakout last year but I think this year will be the year.
Started making 3s towards the end of the year so he did at least make a jump there
I love those in-depth analyses of lesser known, less appreciated players; it is such a breath of fresh air from the media landscape focused on rehashing the same old points about the few megastars
Underrated player that just plays frickin’ hard every night 🔥 credit to you for pointing it out 👏🏾

Celtics fan I’m super high on Okongwu. If the Hawks do trade Clint they’re set with him he’s their future big 100%
The thing about 00 is he needs a great rebounding Pf next to him. If jalen can be that we are looking at a dynamic front court
What i like more from him is his lateral mobility, thats why he can be interesting starting, as he is basically the same player ad Capela on offense so he is going to give you the same there.

It will be crazy to look back at that Chino hills team if he ends up being the best player
He will be the best player from that school 4sure
@dirtybirdxx I think so too man. Just gotta wait n see how Melo plays. He does have a higher ceiling but idk if he wants it.
Capela is a good player but Okongwu is basically the same but have better potential than Capela. That's why I like them to trade Capela for a 3-d wing if its possible but if not, I'm ok keeping him but I want Okongwu to start.
This is great context. Just found your channel and I love it. Definitely going to blow up in the future!
The art of setting illegal screens is equivalent to pitch framing by catchers in baseball
Okongwu just covers so much ground on defense it feels like he is everywhere on the court
He’s gonna be perfect against wemby
yessirrrr! nice to see Big O getting seen for how good he is.
Definitely learned this from Zaza and David lee film😂
finally yall showin love to my guy 🧘🏿♂️
I love content like this. Finally subbed! Could we get another pistons video? Maybe Jalen Duren

Keep up the great work! Was just wondering when your next video would drop, great timing
I really feel like its a bam/hassan whiteside scenario they have going on there
Most fun name to say in the League for sure
Great video go Hawks!

my goat is gonna start next year and be in mip conversation
The onyeka jalen Johnson tandem is gonna be so good for us next year
Great Video!
My Lakers need to get him in the future
No they don't and LA need to quit copying these teams style
Yes they do need him
hate when fans of big market teams post like this. Lakers can gtfo
He still really needs to work on his fouls averaging 3.1 fouls in 23 minutes which is one of the worst marks among centers, on the positive side his fouls per 36 have decreased every season
crazy how stats can be measured whether a player is on or off the court
As a Bucks fan I've known this man is great, he gives Giannis trouble whenever they match up.
I LOVE ONYEKA OKONGWU
I do like his offense a lot.
Why do i feel like im the only one who thinks okongwu needs a bigger role. I think he still has a ways to hit his ceiling but i think he has tons of potential to get there. And thats from just a fan of basketball and a pistons fan.

getting to the line is 100% a skill. any analyst worth their salt constantly says as much!
Damn so this is why my NBA Live Card is such a top tier defender
Like Draymond, he's a physical player from jump ball. Certain players are just officiated differently.
They should go ahead and let Clint go , it’s not that he’s a bad player. He’s just redundant. You know what your going to get from Clint. I think OO ceiling is higher. He’s a good defender to help protect Trey Young as the video shows.
OKC needs him to complete their rebuild
He snitching on Okongwu smh
If draymond can make a career out of much more egregious screens than he’ll be fine
Can u do bennedict mathurin
I think it helps he’s undersized for a Center to get away with illegal screens
He will be the GOAT according to my NBA 2k23 MyGM because he avgs more rebounds than prime Bill Russell
He'd be perfect on the warriors
Thats why they tryna trade Capela. They know they gotta give him more minutes
This is the guy that Luka/Dallas needs lol
the draymond green special
get this man with melo n zo

Warriors about to recruit him
go away
I swear someone is gonna sweep him up from The Hawks.
patronising bs
With a Respectable 3, maybe he can start with Capela. Gonna be an insane frontcourt, similar to Cavs.
Recipe for disaster. Looks nice on paper and in the regular season, but in the playoffs they’ll get ran off the floor just like the Cavs.

Is he 6' 8"❓
@@KnowThyself47 yep
@@joecesh Wow,I would really like to see him&Zach Edey go at it
Fuck me, your Chanel is amazing
Why not a PF they got rid of JC for a reason and he is not big enough to be a starting center
Illegal screens are barely called just like the extra gather step for travelling. Bigs should exploit this more and free up their guards
I said on draft night that the warriors should’ve chose him not wiseman
It aint illegal if they dont chatch u

Is he related to the WNBA sisters? If not, I'm guessing their families are from similar tribes
The Okongwu to Capella in the starting lineup should have happened 2-3 years ago.
