Flying in Some of the World's Busiest Airspace | Santa Monica to Camarillo | Cirrus SR22

- A full flight video from Santa Monica Airport (KSMO) to Camarillo Airport (KCMA) for lunch. Flew IFR but did not need to file a flight plan since in SoCal, TEC routes can be picked up without the need to file. The GoPro 5 didn't work and I forgot to start recording the wing view. Used the GH3 to get some shots seen throughout the video. More videos to follow flying around SoCal, also a long video in the coming weeks of Ohio to California.

I live in Kentucky. I'm amazed at your traffic in CA....including motorcycles!! Lol.
You are a smooth pilot. Safe flying.
SoCal controllers are an awesome bunch.
Cirrus is love, cirrus is life.
Awesome videos, I'm working on my private license right now, thanks for the motivation! Keep it up!
Socal Approach sets up approaches into CMA and OXR even though the fields are Pt Mugu airspace. The planes you're seeing over Malibu heading west to east are jet arrivals into LAX on the SADDE STAR.
Nice, cool seeing you fly around my stomping grounds.
I like flying to CMA, fun airport and good restaurant but the airspace can be crazy busy on weekends.
I have about 80 hours logged in flying in this airspace and Camarillo is one of my favorite, after Gillespie Field. Make sure to try the burger at the restaurant. Thanks for the share. It brought up some neat memories, indeed.
So cool to see you flying to my home airport!
Awesome, just flew there yesterday, has to be one of the best airport restaurants I've visited. If you're still in SoCal try to make it out to Catalina, think theres a 20$ landing fee and the runway isn't in great condition but awesome place to fly.
She asked for your approach request because the Burbank sector on 134.2 hands you off to Mugu. They will coordinate to clear you direct SUANA, which is the primary IAF for the RNAV-Z, or whatever point is most convenient for the approach.
Thank you for the preview! I'm going to fly that exact route soon.
Beautiful scenery. You should head across the big pond and do some flying in my neck of the woods. You'd absolutely love it sir.
kind of weird seeing your plane all the way in California haha
Your Gopro 5 may need a software update possibly. Not sure though. Nice video
What video editing software do you use
Same question!

I am a bit confused. If you are flying IFR, why would ATC give you a VOR radial in the first place?
Bobby Shah VOR radials are frequently used in IFR. Mainly on airways. I may be incorrect since I'm not from the area but I believe VFR departures out of SMO must fly runway heading then turn at the shoreline. The LAX315R is practically at the shoreline. I'm guessing it's a noise abatement procedure.
Love the IFR TEC routes in SoCal. Several use VOR radials after departure to bring you to airways. Here is the Santa Monica November 21 routing: SMO SMO125R V64 SLI V23 OCN ...........
thanks Driver....
Bobby, GPS isn't required to operate under IFR. The entire low and high enroute system is based on VOR radials. They're still very much part of the system for now.
Yes, they wanna get you out over the beach asap. The reason for giving a radial reference on the IFR clearance instead "at the shoreline" is because the clearance has to be flyable under IMC, too. The reason for the right turn to 250, in case anyone's curious, is because if you were to continue on runway heading, you'd be encroaching on the LAX departure corridor.
CMA is cloudy many times ... the shaking of the camera is an issue.
What do you do for a living to afford such a sweet bird ?
Audio needs work on this one. Clipping. Otherwise, nice vid. Can't wait for the big one!
Steveo vs. Cirrus Driver?
Wabbit is for Warner Brothers, not Disney :)
Andrew Willey close enough haha
The guy behind the radio really feels the pilot, speaks calm and clear :) Enough time to write it down
sick!
Im done pickin' on you.. 😺
... idle mind. Don't have anything better to do than bug people. The question is... what can you afford to fly. Leave the man alone. He's kind enough to take his humble time to share his flying experience. You sound immature
Thee guys talk to much.
Take off vfr. What a jerk.
bravo pilot you're saying that you'd rather have me depart VFR? And that I'm a jerk for not...
Airspace is busy. Now you over load atc. Your obviously not a professional pilot.
So I'm a jerk because I use the NAS in a way it's meant to be used? Just because someone doesn't fly for a living doesn't mean they don't fly by the standards professional pilots fly by. That's a bold statement to make from watching a single video.
You don't have a clue.
bravo pilot thanks for watching.
