I'm going pool this afternoon, will get there earlier and practice these shots. Definitely the clearest way anyone has explained the parallel method. Thank you Mick Hill
Mick you are spot on. I was trying the system yesterday and realised I kept missing because I could not precisely parallel shift the line of the cue ball. I realised that I naturally think the striking point is wider than it should be. So after many attempts I realised that I have to compensate by striking the cushion a couple of inches to the right and use a touch of side. Now much more accurate!👍
As a very average player who’s always asked for better players for. Tips and help even willing to pay for coaching but got laughed at by my peers for asking these videos are like gold mot me to get to understand the physics of it all thankyou so much for taking the time to show this, great videos too thankyou
Big fan Mick, lots to learn here. Have a lesson this week with Ralph Eckert. Lots of diamond theories which don't translate to Aussie 7' or supreme. Would love similar videos to this, theories which don't require diamonds. Cheers!
Hi Mick i played pool back in early 90's for West Yorkshire with Darren Appleton Chris Melling and others watching these guys play was amazing. what you have just demonstrated there has just blown my mind when you think about it it is just really simple thanks
Instantly number one favourite UA-cam channel. Love the videos where you talk through clearances and where lower ability players might make different decisions than you did and why you didn't do that. Thanks for great content.
I’m extremely pleased you are putting these videos out their Mick. You have a gift like no other and to share it makes the world a better place If I could suggest one preference of mine, it would be if you can also present the extra nuances and thought processes which complicate a situation or shot, and the physics-based or intuitive reasons behind what is taught. These are probably best as separate follow-on videos after first introducing the underlying main idea in an initial video which is more accessible. For example, the angles from cushion slide in the shot in this video will be affected by the effect of the pace of the cue ball, the running side, the cloth type, the cushion bounciness, and so on. Describing how and why effects such as these occur and are considered in the playing of the shot would be incredibly beneficial for understanding how to play them on a deeper level and in different situations There is no one more capable than you to share such wisdom with the world so please do keep this up! Thank you!
Great vid again mick, you do realise now you've started these your gonna have to keep making them forever 😊 would love some vids on how to play side and how you adjust your aim to allow for it .cheers
Big fan here Mick, you're my favourite player Love these Videos you've been putting out lately Exactly the kind of elements of the game us fans want to see broken down
Really enjoying these videos, thanks for taking the time and trouble to make them, very well explained shots and, for me, easier to understand than others.
@@mickthemachinehill Probably a silly question, but what would you do if say the cue ball is 6” from the side cushion and the the object ball is on the side cushion, or 10” off the cushion? I think what I’m trying to ask is if that would affect the centre point and therefore the line from the centre point to the pocket? Hopefully that makes sense!
Thanks again Michael. I would love to see a video on cue ball control in particular something on not hitting the ball too hard. I feel I hit the ball way too hard. I'm not clobbering them about but I know it's still too hard. I always think I need to hit it harder to get a reaction out of the white. Any drills or pool psychology tips on this would be greatly appreciated champ.
Thanks for showing this Mick, Could you please show us the 3 rail system? Could you also please comment on that i saw the Aussie guy (routine pool instructor) do a similar system but aim the object ball off the middle of the nearest cushion and then shift across , it might be the same result but a different way, thanks
Love these tips Mick, thank you. Getting out of snookers is one of the worst parts of my game, and so important with the new rules. Do you manage to work out the parallel shift in-game, when you're against a short shot clock? Or is it all natural and quick to work out for you now?
Hi Mick, great stuff. I haven't seen this type of stuff explained before it's great content! Does this only work if the cue ball and white ball are the same distance away from the cushion? What if the yellow ball was say 8 or so inches away from the cushion, but the white ball was only 2 inches for example?
@@mickthemachinehill where would you consider the middle point in that scenario then? in line with the cue ball, object ball or somewhere in the middle of the two?
Hi Mick, quick question, because this does make sense to me. But my question is, do you always need to use a pocket for the half-way reference point? Do you just choose which ever pocket you're going to send the cue ball past essentially? Sorry if I'm not explaining that well mate.
This only works when the cueball and the object ball are in line vertically though right? E.g. in the last example if the cue ball was closer to the top right pocket, the halfway point wouldn't make sense right? EDIT: I just realised the half way point between the balls would be different but should still work I think, half way between the balls if you drew a line between them 🤔. Either way, thanks!
Room between you and the table, lol, Mick you a quality player, but I'm guessing you never played in a pub, with pillars and walls in the way of your cueing, 😂😂😂
what if the balls are not "IN LINE" With each other...in other words, the Cue ball is where it is against the rail but the object ball is in the middle of the table, blocked but, not in line with the cue like these examples... Hard to pictiure from words I know but I hope you get my point.. THanks
@@mickthemachinehill its great to keep finding NEW videos for Pool and lessons, and drills.. I have a select few I watch all the time, and found yours and it is good. It is also part of the way I shoot two rail banks.. even one rail has a very similar parralell system. Great work, keep it up...
So the parallel shift half way point is half way on a straight line between cue ball and object ball rather than half way on the cushion the balls are nearest to? Sorry, difficult to explain the question.
I think what has confused you is where he used the parallel shift to get a 3 cushion escape. The parallel shift is for 2 cushions to the object ball but he's exploited this technique to get 3 cushions then to the object ball.
In international rules this is known as "loss of turn". It's a key tactic in the ruleset. (Although it's not defined as a foul in the rules you can think of it as one, but the punishment is only handing the table to the opponent).
Mick, that's about the clearest and easiest explanation of shifting that I've ever heard. Well done
Glad it helped

If you're playing reds and you pot one of your opponent's yellow balls, isn't that a Foul??
Not in international rules.
As long as you hit your ball first no foul just end of visit unless your ball goes in carry on 👍
