There's always an awkward ball, and trying to chase the other balls around to get an angle to cannon it only to scratch or snooker youself is soul destroying. If you can solve that problem your pool strength instantly increases.
Although I'm just a pub player I did know these shots however in the heat of battle sometimes there forgotten quite easily, however this teaches you to not be so sloppy and look for these options many thanks Mick.
Fantastic vid Mick! I definitely want to see these options more - I'll spot obvious ones but much less so when it has to be cushion first then in-off. Definitely failed a lot of dish attempts by throwing my arm at a cannon, getting the intended contact but not the outcome. Keep em coming - these are excellent and always really watchable
Mick, can you do something on the natural angles without any side or screw etc please? I struggle to see where the cue ball is naturally going to go after the shot.

Thanks Mick, very helpful. I've taken your advice and i'm playing a lot more straight pool and i've seen a big increase in my ability to get 8 ball breaks as a result, so thanks for the tip! I'll also take this one on board - such a useful channel!
Now I am kinder impressed by my Coach, Master Cyril Rogers for suggesting such a video with more informative ways to use cannons and strategy that can shock any opponent. Thanks Legendary Mick Hill for sharing such informative tutorials... God bless You... Leon Segopa from South Africa.
@@mickthemachinehill I was thinking about when you play one ball off an opponent's ball to pot it. How do you gauge the point at which to contact the opponent's ball? In one of your examples you came off cushion first, then the ball, and it's the point at which I need to contact in order to get the pot that I often can't see.
I love these types of shots. Play them loads. Ive had times where people think ive fluked a shot playing like this so much so I purposely make a little show of lining up the shot so any half dencent player can see what im actually going for.
This is really really good stuff! Can you please please pretty please give us some more examples or show variations of what you shown us. You said there are loads of these type of shots. And as you said it's being able to recognize it. Seeing these examples are so helpful in recognizing it.
Great video Mick, didn’t work out the shot to play on the first 2. However once watching those I managed to work out the shot you would play for the rest. Thank you as always
Great tips as always Mick, thank you. Do you have a video based around mindset during matches? May be difficult to create a video on this, however every player has been through bad spells on the table when the game seems so difficult! You must have great tips & experience on to how to grind out frames whilst not playing well?
Wow, I did not think that second shot would drop, I suppose my pockets are too tight for some of these haha. Amazing though, I didn't see half of these, will try and spot them in the future! Cheers!
Just try and evaluate the option next time you have a difficult ball. You’ll be surprised how more controlled the shot is and even maybe easier to “get on the shot” in the first place.
Good video, Mick. Much better approach than simply trying to blast a cannon! Had a look at the SAM tables online too. Very nice. Lots of design models available. A bit more expensive than the Supreme models but as my old grannie used to say *you get what you pay for son*😂😂😂
This one will win lots of matches Looks impressive but quite simple shots. As you say difficulty is in spotting it and setting it up early in your pattern. Takes a bit more of the luck element out of it This is why the top players make the game look so simple
More great tips. I'm definitely learning more thanks to your channel Mick. Any tips on cueing straighter? I use the centre of my chin to try and help and set up a camera to see where I'm going wrong but feel I'm maybe just not a natural at it like some.
I like how you don't just cater for people who play international rules. Many of us that play (in the lower pub leagues) play the old rules still so it's nice that your tips account for that.
@@veganforever9703international rules are so much better man, I played standard pub rules my whole life, and switched about a year ago, never looked back
Do you think these shots are more difficult on the Australian 7ft tables with the pocket shape differing, different cloth etc? I heard a comment on an ultimate pool match between aus and mauritaus i think, where the commentator said Aussies tend to play cannons with too much pace and he chalked it up to the inexperience of playing on supreme tables.
Hey Mick how's it going mate I thought you were going all Chinese 8ball at the moment? I went over Darlaston a couple of months ago and had a game on the Chinese 8ball table there. If you're ever around that way give me a shout if you want a couple of quick sets, Matt 👍

I have a hard time with listening to people talking about Pool shots from England... I never understand what they mean my cannon or cannoning... at one point I thought they meant a combination shot. But it's clear here that he's not talking about combinations... I need someone to translate English to English for me... :D I think at some point he allured to a cannon being like breaking out the balls by sending the cue ball into them? Does cannon simply mean "blasting" into the balls with the cue ball? Is it another word for billiard shot? He played a Carom instead of a Cannon at one point. And he played a "ticky" shot instead of a cannon. I really hate the name "ticky" shot... I wish it had a better name. Anyways... can someone explain clearly what is meant by "cannon" in pool?
It just means the cue ball hits any other ball after contacting the object ball, accidentally or intentionally, intentional cannons to stop or hold the cue ball for position purposes or split a cluster or to pot another ball is usually where you hear it. Technically any contact with other balls with the cue-ball after hitting the object ball is a cannon, it's nothing special, it's just an old term from the original Billiards game. You can attempt a combination shot by cannoning into balls, but it's more "he cannoned into the ball achieving a combination pot".
There's always an awkward ball, and trying to chase the other balls around to get an angle to cannon it only to scratch or snooker youself is soul destroying. If you can solve that problem your pool strength instantly increases.

I used to watch Rob Chilton do this at bilston snooker club all the time. Absolute master of that shot.
yes he was (and still is)
Technically an in-off is a cannon, its just a cannon into the pocket using the object ball instead of the white.
Fantastic vid Mick!
