    Am I right in thinking that the looser grip leads to a smoother and more constant speed of cue delivery, which in turn means the tip has slightly longer time in contact with the ball …? I guess if you have a tight grip you get more of a 'muscle action' which is more snatchy and tense than the kind of 'pendulum action' it feels like if you loosen the grip.

    I think the hardest thing is knowing the angle the cue ball is going to be coming off of the object ball. The "natural" angle is fine...but knowing what that is, is the trick I think.

    Rail first with a bit of spin in the same direction usually works for me. At that point speed is less of a factor.

    Technically an in-off is a cannon, its just a cannon into the pocket using the object ball instead of the white.

  • @DavidKilpatrick-nv8ty
    @DavidKilpatrick-nv8ty Місяць тому

    Question about the last example and playing to finish on the natural angle to shift the 8 ball with cushion first contact. If you finish say two inches past natural angle position you're now unable to play cushion first. Whereas if you were aiming to finish two inches short of natural position and overran by up to two inches the cushion first contact is still on albeit with some instruction. So it seems like there is a tradeoff in deciding what cueball position to aim for on the shot. Aiming to finish natural is great if you get it but at the risk of over running and losing the cushion first option. Aiming to finish short of the natural means you may have to instruct the cue ball but a small overrun still leaves you with the cushion first option. Would you back yourself to finish on the natural or give yourself more wriggle room and aim to finish a bit short of the natural? A video dealing with these sort of tradeoff issues would be interesting :)

    This only works when the cueball and the object ball are in line vertically though right? E.g. in the last example if the cue ball was closer to the top right pocket, the halfway point wouldn't make sense right? EDIT: I just realised the half way point between the balls would be different but should still work I think, half way between the balls if you drew a line between them 🤔. Either way, thanks!

    Cinching balls is great and all ... if you don't have to play position. Good advice for the actual 8B (or money ball, etc) ... but the bottom line, you just have to do whatever the shot requires. But, "rail shots" aren't different shots. You just have to hit the 'contact point' furthest from the center of the pocket. Like every other shot.
