I understood your first video tying this knot, but your second video is much cleaner and concise. I plan on using this knot as soon as the ice is out this month. I see no reason to doubt the knot, you being a charter boat captain who makes a living off his clients landing fish. Thanks.
Hi Kevin, yep, that is what I have been told. I had never known the name but just that it worked REALLY well for me !! Thanks for coming by!!! Tight lines. Capt Paul
Thank you for the excellent teaching video! I take several young people out on charter boats for bottom fishing off northern California coast. Last year, I re-tied all my loaner rods using this great knot. Have not had one of these knots fail!
Thanks for the video! I do most of my fishing in the Western Long Island Sound, as my friend (also a CG certified Cpt.) has his boat in Mamaroneck, NY. All we use is braid on our setups, and this knot is just the ticket. Easy, and eliminates the swivels. Don't know why some guys are bashing the knot, as I tied it after watching the video once! Thanks again.
THANK YOU, Captain! Finally a simple, easy to tie and strong knot that solves my problem of joining braid to Flouro. I truly appreciate your taking the time to post this. Tight lines!! Garry. Placida, Florida
1Calusa I'm happy to hear the knot is working out well for you, and appreciate your taking the time to post your feedback on the video, good luck out there and tight lines to you as well!!! Capt Paul
+Dany Mac89 LOL!!! Thank you for the kind words!!! I'm glad to hear this one helped you out a bit and appreciate you taking the time to let me know. Have a great season on the water, cheers, Capt Paul
Hi Lee, glad to hear the knot is working out for you, thanks for taking the time to post your feedback. Enjoy the rest of your fishing season!!! Capt Paul
Thanks for the videos. I have been fishng for a lot of years, but I learned some new knots from you. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks again. Great videos.
Nice video Skipper! Thanks for taking the time to show us how to tie this knot...I'll have much better success now with my braided to fluorocarbon leaders.
Thanks for your feedback, I was hearing from some folks that the first one wasn't really showing the knot that well so I hoped this helped show it better!! Thanks for coming by , tight lines, Capt Paul
Hi there, I am happy to hear the knot worked out for you!! Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback!! I appreciate it!! Tight lines.... Capt Paul
Great video!!! This knot system will never let you down! I love its simplicity and I love its strength. I use 30# original Fireline doubled with a 6 turn Surgeon knot (Roy Rose) and attach a 50# mono shock leader per the knot as demoed in the video. Strong? Yup...This rig will hang a 35# kettle bell until I get tired of holding it up! Thank you Sir!
Our forum over here in OZ just posted your link up. Thanks for showing that, it is a very easy knot to do and remember, especially in windy conditions...Cheers, Ray.
Ray Selby Thanks for the Share and for taking the time to provide your feedback on the knot. I'm glad to hear it may have helped you out a bit. Good luck and tight lines, Capt Paul
This is Dave Downies' forum called "Nuggets Outdoors Forum". just type nuggetsoutdoors with the .com.au into google search If I try to send you the exact link, it shows MY log in details...got me buggered ? I hope what I am trying to say is clear....lol Cheers, Ray.
Ray Selby I found it, I believe I actually found the conversation you posted on as well :-) I did see a link to the video on there so assuming that was the place. Seems a very nice forum, I'll have to read through it in more depth, thanks again Ray!! Cheers!!! Capt Paul
This knot works, I'm trying it with fluorocarbon to fluorocarbon! Can't waste the braid! It works, the reason why people messing up is the don't realize it's to knots on each end! Take your time and look at what your doing!
Michael Faure good news!!! Glad to hear the video helped you out some, thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback!! Tight lines to you, Capt Paul
Hi Will, thank YOU very much, glad to hear this one may have helped you out a bit, Thanks for taking the time to let me know, tight lines to you, Capt Paul
Hi there, thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback! Appreciate it. I hope the knot works out as well for you as it has for me, tight lines to you, Capt Paul
Thanks for the video. I used 50lbs Braid and 70lbs fluoro, it took two pliers to pull it tight haha. Works easy without effort for light lines like 10lbs braid to 20lbs leader :)
WELL!! Thank YOU very much for your nice compliment!! I'm glad to hear you liked this video!! I hope you have a great season, tight lines to you, Capt Paul
i use this knot for joining 50 pound power pro to 50 pound mono and i caught a 50 pound yellowtail great knot but instead of the surgeon loop i use the bimini twist thanks for posting this great knot
I've had several other folks state that fluoro leader slips out on them, I've tested it a bunch and actually posted a video on my results. To be honest I could not get the fluoro leader to slip out at all. I'm not sure why folks are running into the issue with fluoro leader but I just have not been able to reproduce it myself :-( Thanks for taking the time to post your update and findings. Cheers. Capt Paul
Alex, I've had some folks say the same thing. I'm not sure how light a leader you are using but the lightest I use is 25lb for my type of fishing and have not had it slip for me. I use the 25lb mono leader on 20lb braid. I have not heard how light folks are trying but apparently it does happen on the smaller stuff according to comments I've recieved. Thanks for coming by and leaving your feedback, tight lines..... Capt Paul
Capt. Paul, thanks for responding to my problems about the mono always pulling out. After this past weekends troubles using 40lb. braid I have gone back to using only mono. Constant knotting on all 5 of my rods. It was just a nightmare. Nothing to do with your knots. I am feeling much better now that I have changed back to mono. You just would not believe the huge knots I had to constantly cut out and retie.
Good stuff man good on you for making a second video after watching the first one I couldn't get it but watching the second video it was easy as thanks man 😀
I use a variant on this, where I use a bimini twist rather than the surgeons loop, mostly because it's the way I was taught to tie the loop in the braid... not sure about strength, but I use a plaited bimini, so in theory it should be stronger than the surgeons knot? very clear video - the thing it's had me change, is I used to feed the main mono/fluoro through the loop and wrap the mono up the braid loop, before coming back through the loop - your method is much easier!
Jason Silva I use this very same knot for surf leader as well. I can't really compare it to the Albright as I never really used that one enough to have a valid opinion on it :-) Enjoy the rest of this season!! :-)
Great revisited video its very informative and i think its a little bit more informative then the last one just a tad ive had issues with this know all the time with the mono with the braid because the braid keeps slipping how can i stop that from happening so i can give this knot a try again?
Thank you very much for the information I’ve been using this for sometime now. The only thing I don’t understand is why are you tying it off with the surgeons loop if I just double it back without It works fine. Anyway thanks very much.
Thanks for your great vids! I'm been trying this knot but I'm still not sure I have it right. When done properly, the resulting knot, does it look like the mono has circled/wrapped around the braid line? It would have been great to get a HUGE close up of the finished knot at the very end.
Thanks a bunch this video help me out a bunch. I had to watch it a few times but now I got it. Can you use this knot on a casting rod and wont have any trouble with the knot like getting caught up on the eye guide of the rod??? Thanks again for the video.
ACT & NSW FRESHWATER FISHING glad to hear this knot worked out well for you and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know about it!!! Tight lines to you , Capt Paul
Thank you for the updated video. So much better now! Now for some questions, How close can I cut off that mono tag end? Even that tiny little tag end will tick the tip guide. I stop reeling in before the knot but still... just wondering. Also, what knot do you recommend to tie the mono/leader to hook/lure. ? Finally, is there a way to minimized that braid loop? Thank yiou.
Hi John, thanks for coming by and leaving your feedback!! I appreciate you taking the time stopping by!! :-) For sure there are TONS of other knots that work very well, this one just is easiest for me and holds pretty darn good :-) Horses for courses they say right ?? :-) Tight lines to you, Capt Paul
Just an update, but went out this past Sat. to do some Porgy fishing off Rye, NY. I used this knot to attach a 3' mono leader to the braid. Worked like a charm. Just a note though, there may be an issue with this knot and Floro. leaders. I tried several times to tie this knot with 25lb Floro, and it slipped each time. I made sure to slowly tie it properly, but as soon as I tried to seat the knot, it slipped constantly. With mono, it seats perfectly every time. Had a great day!
I'm looking forward to trying this method of connecting braid to mono. I am curious about leaving the 4-5" loop with its own knot at the end of the loop. I would think that loop would cause some problems? Does it not present any issues?
Looking forward to testing this one out! I've been using the modified Albright or Alberto with pretty good success but have had it slip. Second worry is the Alberto is a smaller knot with the braid on the outside of the mono which cushions the guides. How does the Cpt Paul knot do with the guides during lots of casting?
I've tried burning the trim part of the mono to make it shorter so it won't keep hitting the ring on the tip of the rod.. Will try it out soon and I will let you know how it goes..
Great not for joining when extra strength is needed but have u ever used the slim beauty knot i think its a bit better when long casts are needed , there is less knot to catch on the guides ? This is just my opinion what do u think ? Although i will definatley be using ur knot for certain other applications . Cheers
Thank you great video. How long fluorcarbon leader do you use for salmon fishing? how many lb should the fluorcarbon have for salmon fishing (5-15 kg fish possible where i fish), and what brand do you recommend? Cheers from norway
Thanks for the video. Does it matter the test of mono versus braid? Meaning, if you had a real with 80 pound braid can you tie on 20 pound mono? Does this work with fluorocarbon as well? My flour carbon keeps slipping through when I go to Seat the knot. Thoughts?
i use this knot with 20lb braid 20lb fluro. it slips kinda rowdy, but i tweaked it and do a small cinch knot on the fluro leader as i get it seated. seems like it will hold really well
We generally fish a leader in front of the braid to add some shock absorbence as well as a shot of line that is not as visible in the water as the braid may be. For me I also like that the thicker leader material will not cut through my fingers as easily as the finer diameter braid when grabbing the line to land the fish!! :-) Hope that answers your question, thanks Capt Paul
Hello really nice instruction video!! but why you need the loop and the two times knot on the loop!! is it breaking faster on the knot than not using one! you just take the double line with out the knot?? Perhaps a stupid question thanks greetings from Belgium
Anthony, aside from the knot perhaps not being snugged down all the way I'm not sure what could have went wrong. 12lb leader is MUCH lighter than any leader I use so I don't have experience with that light a material but it could possibly be the thinner diameter of that 12lb fluoro did not have enough thickness for the knot to snug up against. Again, just a thought on possible cause, I can't think of anything else if the knot was pulled down tightly as possible, thanks for your feedback,
Hi there, thanks for coming by, I don't really fish lines as light as you mentioned but see no reason why it wouldn't work / hold just as well, good luck out there, cheers, Capt Paul

Its a Yucatán/Surgeon's loop combo! Great knot Capitán, gracias!
Ty for this second video I see now that you start your wrap at the knot so that it is incorporated into the connection.
Thanks for the video. I used 50lbs Braid and 70lbs fluoro, it took two pliers to pull it tight haha. Works easy without effort for light lines like 10lbs braid to 20lbs leader :)

Looks like a slick easy knot, I'm going to try it next time out. Thank you.
It was easy and worked great...I just installed new line on two new reels with 30 lb mono and 30 lb Pro braided Hi-Vis yellow...
Thank you Captain! Great knot, simple and secure.
Beautiful knot! Thanks for making the video I had to loop it about 12/13 times or else the flouro kept pulling through.
Capt. Paul, thanks for responding to my problems about the mono always pulling out. After this past weekends troubles using 40lb. braid I have gone back to using only mono. What I do for the braided end is to use a bimini twist, it actually works very good too. Thanks for the vid on the leader end!
Excellent demonstration. That really clarified the process. Thanks!
Great vid I have had problems trying to tie a leader previously but now I got it cheers :)
Your such a live saver I fish clear water so this will help
Good stuff man good on you for making a second video after watching the first one I couldn't get it but watching the second video it was easy as thanks man 😀
Thanks, finally I got it! finally a easy version which hold perfect....
Wow now I've got to find my leader knot to retie them LOL I've been using Uni knots they work but I like this version better!
Appreciate the video helped me out a lot on last week fishing trip very strong for for these monster stripers we catching in NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
Great video! Very clear and very helpful. Thanks again for taking the time to make it.
Michael
Thanks Capt'n! Gonna try this one on my next outing!
Thanks!!! Looking forward to using this knot in action soon!
fastest, easiest braid to mono knot ever. i use this all the time
Hi babaki1 glad to hear this knot works well for you as well. I love it and has served me very well for quite some time :-) Cheers, Capt Paul
really easy, quick and effective! .. Thanks! Exactly what I want to use when fishing for tog!

Oscar, I hope it works out as well for you as it has for me over the years, good luck and tight lines, Capt Paul
Awesome thanks a lot at first I didn't pull hard enough then I finally got it after 30 mins and 2 start overs
Thank You Captain! It was more clear than the first.
Jason, you are MORE than welcome, glad to hear this video may have helped you out some!! Thanks for coming by my channel :-)
most of the fishing I do is on the beach. In your opinion is this knot stronger/better than the albright knot?
Jason Silva I use this very same knot for surf leader as well. I can't really compare it to the Albright as I never really used that one enough to have a valid opinion on it :-) Enjoy the rest of this season!! :-)

Thank yiou.
wow! after a few times, it came out just like yours! great video! thank you
that was a perfect demo...THANK YOU!!!

Have u ever tried doing the alberto knot because i find it to be the best out of any other knot to join braid to mono/flourocarbon line
I'll be using this for sure, very well demonstrated.
Hi Porkleaker thank you for your comment. Glad the video helped you out some, have a great season!! Capt Paul
***** Great fishing to you too Capt Paul - from Paul as well lol
Easy knot!!! AWESOME video!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
Thanks the video was helpful Capt. Paul. Can you do a close up video on how to spool braid line onto a round baitcaster?

Awesome video, very informative and easy to understand.
understood from the first vid, this confirms the knot very well, regards,
Thanks for the video. Does it matter the test of mono versus braid? Meaning, if you had a real with 80 pound braid can you tie on 20 pound mono? Does this work with fluorocarbon as well? My flour carbon keeps slipping through when I go to Seat the knot. Thoughts?

was messing around and tried this with 20 lb mono to 50 lb mono, it seemed to work and hold very well. Just FYI.
Thank you very much for taking the time to post a closer version of this! I assume this works just fine for lighter lines, 10's and 12's?
Hi there, thanks for coming by, I don't really fish lines as light as you mentioned but see no reason why it wouldn't work / hold just as well, good luck out there, cheers, Capt Paul
