Are you me? I know this was a year ago now but I played from 12-13 up to 18 when I moved countries and only played a few times until I picked this kit up last week at nearly 28. It's amazing how much you retain really. Nearly 10 years of not playing, haven't even touched a kit in around 6 years, yet I'm straight back into it :)

The great thing about these Roland TD sets is that it alleviates the problem of getting drums miked correctly in the studio. Now you can plug your drums right into your board, and forget worries about "room sound",or which mics to use.. You can create your "room sound" with your reverb unit. Also, you can pick multiple drum sets which you can't do except in the largest studios. You can now record EVERYTHING (except maybe a horn or string section) in your apartment, condo or your house with disturbing anyone. These sets enable even the smallest production company to compete with the "big boys".

@@mikestein1024 Most big productions use samples to mix with the recorded drums. You'll have a Deep snare, high snare, maybe an explosion mixed with it. Sure, you're not going to record a jazz album with this, but pop, rock, metal whatever no problem.

I'm on the fence on which Roland set to get. I was thinking about getting TD -11KV, but it cost a tad bit more. I liked the fact that that one already has double pedals, but the price on this caught my eye. So my question for any of you is should I spend more and get that one, or save some money and get this? I also want to know if I can record some beats (without the metronome but still using it) to the USB?? Oh and 2 more questions. Do I have to eventually have to change the heads? And can I program in a certain sound...like some dubstep sounds or maybe a dog bark lol? Let me know. Thanks.

Certainly you are limited in sound choices with that type of kit, but depending on what you are doing, you can always either use virtual instrument drum sounds from your computer or trigger some type of other sounds if you are looking for variety. And of course, if you are using for recording, then you can capture your performance on the TD1 in MIDI data and use whatever sounds you want in your DAW. Let me know if you have other questions.
