Yep. Curtis Loew and Simple Man are 10’s *edit When I saw Polo on Lynard Skynard I honestly went right towards Curtis Loew and listened to it myself before I saw this comment …I’m never in the mood for this genre…then after listening to it it made me more in the mood to hear 3 Steps 😂
There is a video that shows them doing it in concert. They have THREE guitarists. When you watch the video, the bass player is also ripping his age! It was really sad that half the band died a year later in a plane crash. The guitarist with the short hair was only with the group a short while. His sister, a backup singer, got him an audition to replace a guitarist that left. Both of them died in the crash.
Yeah, this could be the soundtrack of the 70s. It’s a true story of Ronnie dancing with a girl at the bar Westside Tavern (he calls The Jug). The girl’s boyfriend walks in and pulls a gun on Ronnie. He’s asking this dude to just give him three steps toward the door, before he starts shooting. The bar since been renamed to The Jug; i have my picture in front of the bar.
His stage presence, confident, calm and cool. Ronnie was always barefoot when performing, said he could feel the music better. If you want to learn alot about the band from the very beginning there is a documentary called "If I leave here Tomorrow" that is definitely worth the watch. Skynyrd forever.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was a Southern Rock band from Jacksonville, Florida who started playing together in the 1960s. They were simply the greatest of the Southern Rock bands and no one has eclipsed them to this day. They were such great musicians that they could play a song in concert and you could scarcely tell it from the studio recording. Talented to the core. Some bands could just never play this well no matter how hard they tried, and could certainly never do it live! 🎸🎸🎸💘😉😎
Important to know…Singer, Ronnie Van Zant (RIP) - wrote of real life happenings. This is his story. Another powerful story from his childhood: Ballad of Curtis Lowe. Tuesday’s Gone (after his divorce) That Smell (after guitarist wrapped his Caddy around the tree…Ronnie insisted they get clean and sober)
Allen Collins is a sad story. He survived the plane crash. A few years later he crashed his car into an overpass. I was working in the trauma center that night as a nurse. He was paralyzed waist down. Did ok & then dies of complications related to paralysis. So much talent decimated by a couple of poor decisions related to the aircraft.
Ronnie van Zant, Lead Singer Steve Gaines, the guitarist in the gray vest, along with his sister, a backup singer Cassie Gaines. These three band members were killed in a plane crash in October, 1977.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is considered to be one of the greatest bands in rock history and Gimme Three Steps is a very iconic song by them, but then again they have so many. Luckily they left us with several albums and a rich discography before the plane crash in 1977 that ended it all. If you check it out again, definitely check out the studio cut because you can make out the words and all the different instrumental tracks better, although I say this was an amazingly good quality video. And it must be shortly before the plane crash because they've got Steven Gaines up there on stage, and he was only added by their last album and I believe only their last tour. Sadly, both he and his sister Cassie who was in the Honkettes, which is the three women backing vocalists so crucial to the sound of the band, died in the plane crash along with frontman Ronnie Van Zant and some of the crew. Others were horribly injured. As far as what it means, yeah it's definitely a dance and party song and the lyrics are hilarious. Basically he's at a bar or someplace and this woman named Linda Lou starts hitting on him, so they start dancing and then it turns out she's got a boyfriend or a husband who shows up and assumes that he's been up to no good and threatens to kill him and pulls out his .44. Basically the chorus is him trying to tell the guy that he didn't know and he didn't do anything, he didn't even kiss her, and he is negotiating with the guy to give him three steps towards the door before he kills him you'll never see him again. You can hear him screaming 'bout a mile away as he was headed out towards the door! Lol Iol. Love it.
Ooh That Smell is my all time favorite Skynyrd song. It was recorded at the apex of their musicianship, right before the tragic accident. It's a brutal and beautiful climax to the album Street Survivors. 🎸❤️🔥🌹
Polo, you need to react to them doing a song called Call Me The Breeze live. IMO this song is what Southern Rock is all about. The singing, the lyrics and more than just guitar solos. This is a song that you crank up your radio on high, roll down your car windows and just cruise on down the road.
This one of my dads favorite songs, he used to crank this one up and sing along every time he heard it, embarrassing me and my siblings lol great song!!!
Give me three steps means give me a head-start to get the hell outta here. This is the music of my youth. My favorite LS song is Ballad of Curtis Loew and is a MUST reaction to LS, IMO.
My hometown band!! They were one of a kind for sure! Hard partying hard playing. The loss of most of them in a plane crash was an end of the southern rock era! Good old Florida Boys!
Little known fact about Lynyrd Skynyrd, every single song that they ever song were based on real life events if anybody has ever been to the jug in Jacksonville Florida, it is so small. It is literally three steps from the bar to the front door and the hell house, where they practiced and rehearsed is actually a bed-and-breakfast with about a 6 to 9 month waiting list just like the lyrics to the song that smell “whiskey bottles brand new car oak tree. You’re in my way“ absolutely a true story. The ballad of Curtis Loew is a must. It’s a true story. The video of free bird, which was done in Oakland, that video was recorded just three months before the tragic plane crash. PS if you do go to the jug, bring cash they only take cash cash is king no cards.
You hit the nail on the head with that feel good music. Puts you in a good mood and a smile on your face. Great for a long drive or a BBQ with friends.
Love this Southern rock stuff & you are right, it was a big sound of the 70's... at least in Michigan. I graduated in '71. Loved these guys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Marshall Tucker Band, all big in this 'sound'. Skynyrd has a lot of great music, but Free Bird is definitely a favorite.
This tune, followed by Call Me the Breeze and T for Texas, is for my money the highlight of their recorded show, from their 1976 live album, to this concert (Knebworth) , the Oakland Coliseum show, and The last show in NJ.
They were in a plane crash that killed the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and Cassie Gaines and her brother Steve Gaines so sad they were on their way to the top it broke my heart they're from Gainesville Fl my home state please react to Tuesday's gone Lynyrd skynyrd
Ronnie Van Zant the singer with the cowboy hat didn't like to wear shoes on stage because he injured his toe and shoes would hurt his feet he also liked to feel the warmth and the vibrations of the satge under his feet
I still remember the day.. 8th grade, sitting with my little Walkman and headphones on- LS in. First time I heard the full version of ‘free bird’ where they fucking jammmmm at the end. Yeah, changed my life and love of music. Especially the instrumental aspect of music. He sure had a voice on him.
This is one of my favorite songs by them. Yes such a feel good song. I like the studio version better. You can actually hear the words. I think he wrote this song in about 15 minutes after he had an experience like this in a bar.
" Call Me The Breeze - "I Know a Little" - Ballad of Curtis Loew" - "That Smell" - "All I Can Do Is Write About It" - "Simple Man" - just to get you started
This song was a true story, vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist's Gary Rossington and Allen Collins went out jukin one night to a bar in Jacksonville called little brown jug, Ronnie started dancing and talking with a chick and her boyfriend pulled a gun,and split quick, and by the time they got home they had the song written
Needle and the spoon, ballad of Curtis lowe, whiskey rock and roller, that smell, simple man, sweet home Alabama, every mother's son, I know a little, the list list goes on and on.
Skynyrd was the quintessential southern rock band of the 70's, along with the Allman Brothers. I was fortunate enough to see them twice before the plane crash and had tickets to see them again. I still kick myself for getting my money back and not holding on to those tickets. You'll get a lot of recommendations for other songs to listen to and most will be the hits but I'd like to suggest a couple that don't get a lot of play. "Ain't No Good Life" is the only Skynyrd song that doesn't feature Ronnie on lead vocals. Steve Gaines (RIP) takes the lead there and it's a showcase for his awesome talent. The other is "Four Walls of Raiford" featuring Ronnie on vocals and Jeff Carlisi of 38 Special on guitar.
Give me three steps me to give me three steps give me a chance to get away and if you didn't notice instead of saying he peed himself he said the water fell on the floor that's what I think is amazing about this van they like poetry with their lyrics
This really happened to Ronnie inna Bar in Jacksonville Florida. But he didn't say gimme 3 steps he said I'm leavin' turned his back and said your either gonna shoot me ain't my Ass or my Elbows and walked out. That's my Ronnie!
He was at a dive bar. Two of the musicians were too young to go in so they waited n waited. Next thing, you know who bolted out fleeing for his life. Drastic circumstances make great music. 👍👏🤗♥️
Have been a die hard Skynyrd fan since 1973. During the 1975 - 1995 when i use to play in several rock bands here in Sweden, we always had Gimme 3 Steps in our song list. And every time we played it, the audience went crazy, got up on their feet and let loose. It's such a fun song to play and it always make you feel good. Besides all the great suggestions below about what more songs by Skynyrd to react to... I would suggest some lesser known songs from their repertoire to listen to: 1. "Swamp Music" (if this song don't make you wanna dance... no song will! :) 2. "Crossroads" (from their live record from 1976) 3. "Railroad Song" 4. "Cheating' Woman" 5."Poison Whiskey"
Find a small pub with patrons about 45 to 65/70 and hear some killers ass live instruments back then.Lots of sampling comes that era, sometimes the samples are so short hard to pick up the original song but excuse me words, them white dudes from the 70's made some killer music back then and the lyrics, the lyrics 💪🏿☝🏿
Besides being a great band they were also known as a bunch of tough hombres. They weren't afraid of a fight. One story goes they got into a yelling match with another table in the hotel bar, they all got kicked out and took it outside and both sides gave and took a beating but Lynyrd Skynyrd came out barely on top. The next day they found out they were fighting with a police boxing team. The cops were too embarrassed to admit they got beat up by a long haired rock band because no charges were filed.
BRO, I probably have a disposition close to yours, and my favorite song of Lynyrd Skynyrd is "That Smell". It's a great tune that a lot of AM radio stations were afraid of. Please play the original released version if you do. BTW, since I missed your upload of ELVIS'S "Blue Christmas", my suggestion for another reaction might be "Steamroller Blues", from the concert "Aloha from Hawaii, World-wide via Satellite", 1973. This concert was a groundbreaking concert viewed world-wide all at the same time by over a billion people. You reacted to "What's Now My Love" already, from this same television show. Finally, perhaps to quell some of the naysayers, please react to "Elvis and The Black Community, That Echo Will Never Die", from actual artists commenting their opinions of him. There are two parts of said video. THANK YOU!
Free Bird Live in I believe 1977 (outside Concert). IMO, one of the best guitar Endings to a live performance!! I know you did the studio version, But, the live version is a MUST SEE! Thanks Polo 💞
Southern rock at its best. LS are legendary. He needs three steps to get to the door because he was hitting on another man’s woman. Any version of Freebird is a must listen.

Absolutely!!
The Iconic “Southern Rock” band!
Three killer guitarists, a badass pianist, and Ronnie Van Zandt. Perfection.

Really? Who knew?
I’m glad you reacted to THIS alive version of this song. Their stage presence was second to no one.
Yeah, this could be the soundtrack of the 70s. It’s a true story of Ronnie dancing with a girl at the bar Westside Tavern (he calls The Jug). The girl’s boyfriend walks in and pulls a gun on Ronnie. Kind of like one way out by Allman Brothers
Let’s face it, Jacksonville has always been Gotham City without Batman….
Classic Southern Rock at its finest.
His stage presence, confident, calm and cool. Ronnie was always barefoot when performing, said he could feel the music better. If you want to learn alot about the band from the very beginning there is a documentary called "If I leave here Tomorrow" that is definitely worth the watch. Skynyrd forever.
I heard the same thing about him being barefoot
Liberal-commie lunatic
Yes, great documentary!
If I leave here Tomorrow - agreed. Good choice.
I’d recommend “Free Bird” live at Oakland in 1977 is an incredible live performance
He will get to see them rock hard.
Amen to this!!!
My 20th birthday party. On a bill with the Outlaws, Santana, and Peter Frampton.
Rossington , Collins and Gaines define what southern rock guitar really means!

Simple Man and Freebird are songs you just have to listen to. Simple man has the most beautiful lyrics and free bird is amazing musically
Gimme 3 steps just means getting a head start to get away from a bad situation.
Was lookin for this comment 💗
Ronnie van Zant, Lead Singer
Steve Gaines, the guitarist in the gray vest, along with his sister, a backup singer
Cassie Gaines.
These three band members were killed in a plane crash in October, 1977.
Gotta give Tuesday's Gone a listen. It's powerful and emotional.
The best of Southern Rock!!!
One of the greatest songs ever written, Can't You See by Marshall Tucker Band is a must listen.
In '73 I was at the old Kiel Auditorium in St. LOUIS at a concert Marshall Tucker and Lynard Skynyrd. Wow what a time!
Willie Nelson angel flying to close to the ground

My favorite Lynard Skynard song. Happy, fun, kicks butt. God’s blessings
Ooh That Smell is my all time favorite Skynyrd song. It was recorded at the apex of their musicianship, right before the tragic accident. It's a brutal and beautiful climax to the album Street Survivors. 🎸❤️🔥🌹
Agree....very moving even today.
That whole album was one of all time best in 70's. I had it. We jammed!!!

Great song by Skynyrd
Lynyrd Skynyrd "On The Hunt"...Nuff Said.
Give me three steps means give me a head-start to get the hell outta here. This is the music of my youth. My favorite LS song is Ballad of Curtis Loew and is a MUST reaction to LS, IMO.
The gimmee 3 steps was the singer asking the gunman to let him have 3 steps towards the door to escape being shot.

Ronnie (the singer) always jammed in bare feet . He said he could feel the groove more. These guys were a one off.
He also said he'd die with his boots on which means he knew he wasn't here for a long time but a good time and would go out on the road...he did
They are one of the best that ever did it
Try Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, or the insane live performance of Free Bird, great band who lost members in a tragic plane crash in late '70s.
This tune, followed by Call Me the Breeze and T for Texas, is for my money the highlight of their recorded show, from their 1976 live album, to this concert (Knebworth) , the Oakland Coliseum show, and The last show in NJ.
One of my favorites and yes it's the 70s. The Jug was a real place probably a song based on true story. Always a great song to get people moving.
They were in a plane crash that killed the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and Cassie Gaines and her brother Steve Gaines so sad they were on their way to the top it broke my heart they're from Gainesville Fl my home state please react to Tuesday's gone Lynyrd skynyrd
Possibly the greatest garage band in history, started out practicing in the car port of one of the members mothers house.
Legend that's all I can say ...we truly had the best music hands down 🤟✌️🎸🔥
Lynyrd and CCR are a must!
Country Rock describing a Honky Tonk then. Saw them in 74. What a show.
give me 3 steps back toward the door then i will run like a scared rabbit
Fantastic southern rock band.
Ronnie Van Zant the singer with the cowboy hat didn't like to wear shoes on stage because he injured his toe and shoes would hurt his feet he also liked to feel the warmth and the vibrations of the satge under his feet
I could not tell if Van Zant was barefoot on THIS clip--but, yes, I have seen the singer barefoot on other videos. He was certainly was known for that
For some more Skynyrd, check out Saturday Night Special and The Ballad of Curtis Loew. Those are two of my favorites.

Man! They sound so great live!!
They opened for the WHO at this concert, it is said they blew the WHO away
No, this is Knebworth and they opened for the Stones.
" Call Me The Breeze - "I Know a Little" - Ballad of Curtis Loew" - "That Smell" - "All I Can Do Is Write About It" - "Simple Man" - just to get you started

As a bassist I would get on the dance floor while playing and dance with the woman as I was playing
This was great! I was a kid in the 70s, yeah I'm old, shut up, and this is definitely the sound of the 70s for me. And a little bit o' disco 😄
This was the early 70s.. I was there and I tell you it was high as hell and completely crazy.. damn child . shoulda been there
Please check out the band Traffic their song Low Spark and High Heeled Boys
Needle and the spoon, ballad of Curtis lowe, whiskey rock and roller, that smell, simple man, sweet home Alabama, every mother's son, I know a little, the list list goes on and on.
One of the all time greats

My great aunt's name was Linda Lou and grandma's name was Glenda Sue (RIP to them both).
The 70s theme was
More peace and love
Disco
This and heavy metal were the answers to the 70s pop
They have some really great songs. I really like "all i can do is write about it"
this stuff always sent my boots flyin in the air.............
I spent all of my teen years in the '70's. This song pretty much sums the '70's lol
These are the best concerts to go to!
I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in Chicago about three months before the plane crash. They were playing with three other bands, and they just stole the show.
Ballad of Curtis lowe and four walls of railford some of there best songs . Got they're crash date tattooed on my chest R.I.P Boys
2. "Crossroads" (from their live record from 1976)
3. "Railroad Song"
4. "Cheating' Woman"
5."Poison Whiskey"
If I could be so bold to say…. The 👏 Bee 👏 Gees!
"You'll never see me no more. FOR SHORE!"
What is even more interesting, this was based on a true story. It really happened.
Yeah! Good time music!!
Call me the breeze is a good upbeat guitar & piano spotlight.
Sweet Home Alabama !!!! Love these guys.
Can't believe people still haven't heard them. Best guitar solo.
He was a bad ass.😊
THANK YOU!
"Simple man" is by far my fav
Loved Ronnie, had a hell of sense of Humer😊
You have to listen to “On the Hunt “. Great song!
The song puts you in a southern bar on a Saturday night with all kinds of mayhem going on. You can even smell the beer! Awesome!
Tuesdays gone is another great one
One of the best, Definitely takes me back
Good ole southern rock. Grew up listening to it. Great reaction!!
Gimme three steps. He wants a head start to get away. “Water fell on the floor…he pissed his pants!😎
Free Bird Live in I believe 1977 (outside
Concert). IMO, one of the best guitar
Endings to a live performance!!
I know you did the studio version,
But, the live version is a MUST SEE! Thanks Polo 💞
❤this band!
This song is a true story about an incident involving Ronnie ( lead singer ) at the west side tavern on Jacksonvilles west side.
Southern rock at its best. LS are legendary. He needs three steps to get to the door because he was hitting on another man’s woman. Any version of Freebird is a must listen.
It's 70's Southern Rock.
Groovin’ 🤭🫵🏼
