Let's be honest azula was slim, nimble, and in shape in the anime. Why can't she be the same for the live action. Y'all are a bunch of hypocrites. If Aangs actor looked nothing like the anime, then people would've been complaining.
Live action requires good acting skills and not looks alone. Sure they could have found someone close to Azula’s appearance but they might not have the required acting skill or that’s just the actor they have available. It is what is and we just have to accept that it will never 100% accurate. It’s up to you whether you like it or not.
@@gurulaghima4272 yeah it wasn’t. But at the end of the day, it’s up to you to watch it or not. Honestly I don’t care about remakes for I’m not the intended audience whoever they are.
It's not wrong for people to want the actors/actresses playing their favorite originally animated characters to closely resemble the source material, within realistic reason! They did exactly that with Aang, Sokka, and Katara. Why couldn't they have done the same with Mai and Azula (sidenote: even Zuko)? This is not a diss on the actresses themselves, but only the directors' choice in casting. Sure, these girls did a decent job in portraying the personalities of the characters, and I'm sure they'd do a great job in other roles. However, as someone who grew up watching ATLA and loved these characters, I was disappointed that the live action versions of Mai and Azula didn't look as fit, sharp, and menacing. It was a totally different vibe that was frankly off putting to me. This isn't to shame people who are "chubby" or say that the actresses are ugly. They are beautiful in their own rights! But I honestly believe that they would be better fit for different character roles. Is that really such an awful thing to think?
Yeah it’s kinda disappointing, ATLA (original) practically achieved legendary status among cartoons. You would have thought they’d try to go all out into perfecting this after the horrible 2010 film. Not only that but they kinda got rid of many aspects of the original
I'm sorry. I don't condone fat-shaming but if you put Mai's animated version side by side with the "Mai" from Netflix at 4:05, the "Mai" from Netlfix looked like she just ate an entire box of Twinkies.
i am sorry , the actresses are fine, but casted wrong, it doesn't feel like you are looking at may , azula and ty lee.... thete are better option to be chosen from
About Mai, she looks entirely different, her face is chubby and it obviously makes her different, but the reason why shes a little awkard to look at is because Mai's hairstyle doesn't fit her fache shape that much Azula looks like a softie, not only physically but in personality too, they made her softer and uhhh, that's not azula at all xd
3:52 Sir, I think you are highly mistaken about things. How they act and how they look should BOTH be faithful. This a show adapting existing material. You always cant have it be perfect bc the cartoon is.. well a cartoon. But they came relatively close if casting Azula and Ty Lee... but they didnt even try with Mai! Mai's entire personality isnt the hardest to replicate too. Its not like this actress is pulling off a oscar worthy performance.
I would actually prefer her being a bit less crazy or at least get a deeper look into her character (which looks like they're doing). Otherwise, in the cartoon, she appears to be almost a full-on sociopath to me. I had zero empathy for her and didn't really understand why she was crying in the end
@@haraldsbaumanis why she was crying? Well firstly she’s insane, second she was not allowed to come with her father, her friends betrayed her, and katara tied her down in chains….how would you not at least tear up in that situation
So the casting is fantastic when they find the right actors for Aang katara, zuko etc... but when people critique the actor for Azula, you have a problem.
The reason the casting so far for those characters has been fantastic is because I think they have portrayed the characters very well. I have never once commented on the actual looks or the sharpness of the edges of the face and what not of those characters based off the actors. if you don’t feel like Azula is being portrayed in terms of how she acts through the dialogue so far that is fine and reasonable. You’re not listening to what I’m saying.
@@uncleirohsteashophey Einstein, portraying a character also include the character looks. Not just their demeanor. Which is why we hate the M Night live action. Because the actor doesn't fit the race of the character. Let's be honest here. She's fat. Azula isn't. There's nothing wrong with saying that
Lol they all look so fat, far from the original characters .. azula and mai in cartoons have pointy chins, but in live action they look like minecraft lmao
4:04 I'm sorry but I have to completely disagree, they do look chubby af, stop trying to sugarcoat it, this is bad casting in terms of looks. Ofcourse I'm not expecting a 1:1 adaptation but this is so completely off for Mai, I had trouble focusing on her performance cuz of how she looked, she barely resembles Mai, her performance on the other hand felt lackluster, doesn't have that sharp gothic vibe Mai had in the animated series which made her memorable. This live-action version looks like a cosplay more then anything. There's alot of good things the Netflix version got right, however this isn't one of them.
They're too pc to admit that some of the actor and actress doesn't look like the originals at the slightest. We're just gonna say it as it is. Mai's actress is tok fat, I like zukos acting but he's also on the chubbier side and azola lost all of her intimidation the moment they cast the actress.
@@justsomedude2020 IKR also I disagree about Zuko, I would say he's one of the more accurate potrayals we've gotten from the show, just missing abit of that Zuko edge,. Also he's not chubby bruh, Mai & Azula are.
@@justsomedude2020 i think its less so about being chubby (for zuko, he's literally an athletic martial arts pro) but more so that all of these actors have extremely round faces when all of the characters in the cartoon had very sharp features. I simply cant believe there wasnt a single asian actress with sharp features, athletic skills and good acting that coudlve played azula or mai. Zukos looks are not 100% spot on but at least his acting and skills make of for it (i think). why they made his scar so small and faint is another question
With their budget Mai and Azula more likely to be chosen through shady backdoor connection 😂, Like hell they get their roles because of their acting.. Maybe because the show runners don't think they're that important, So they xan just put whoever it's. Netflix you just to post 1 tweet to ask who maybe fit the roles there you can get a bunch of options to choose from. That is also one way to cook the hype as advertisement for the show.
The least zuko resembles it don’t have to be too similar but similar will be good enough do marvel depicts iron man to be fat because it’s for the audience to have a better reference the first time I see Azula I thought it was a side character not the real azula

We'll see in season 2 how it goes the acting is more important, though even if the acting is bad in s2 it's not the actresses fault it is the directors fault for hiring a wrong actress (not saying that they did that for this character, just making an example).

Narrator nuts, you keep on saying kids, they are not kids, The actress who played Mai is 18 years old and for azula the actress is 21 years old. @@eclairlacroix1830 That's kind of the definition of being fat for me. She is wide even outside the face. What does it change that the animation characters are played by real people? Don't tell me that it was not possible to find slightly thinner actresses.
Body shaming people for how they look is absolutely terrible. But at the same time it is okay to complain if actors don't look even close to the animation. To me most of them looks perfectly fine but wish some of that could have been better.
This is how I feel about it. If you don't like it that's fine but bullying children online over it is cowardly. The girl playing Mai is 17 years old, people need to calm down
I don't understand why you get angry when people want their characters in live action to look more physically similar to how they are represented in the anime. It is the first thing that draws the attention of the public to whom it is directed, who are those who saw the drawing, then comes the second, which is whether their attitudes are in accordance with what has been seen. As for image, it is true that they do not look alike, they look very chubby in the face, you don't like it when someone says that because the actresses will see it?. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but they expose themselves by being part of a movie, likewise, many media avoid put comments, but your channel is not one of them, and you have to accept their general policies, and it is part of free expression to discuss it. As I said, physically they don't look alike, and in terms of acting I expected the following: 1. Ty Lee, a happy, attractive girl, very innocent, active and flexible, stretching and doing pirouettes every time she could. 2. Mai: A thin girl with a demeanor, very sarcastic and without showing many expressions that show her state of mind, which can be misinterpreted by others as bitter. 3. Azula: This character is special, she is literally a psychopath, very cunning, at first appearing cold and calculating, with an aura that inspires caution, almost showing no feelings, but understanding them and using them against everyone she encounters. oppose, almost seeing people as mere pieces in a game.In my opinion, and from the short glance, Azula fails immensely in it, Ty Lee may be saved, but she still needs to get closer to the character, I would have expected an actress who did rhythmic gymnastics, but well, maybe this actress is, Who knows and it will surprise us, otherwise it will be another fail, and as for Mai, I would also have to see more of her, the time she has been out so far is very short.
Yeah I saw no problem with this scene. I feel like the characters were portrayed accurately. People need to stop giving these young ladies a hard time about their looks.
you are wrong on this one. Peoples appearance do make a impact, and how they act in their lifes also makes an impact on their appearance. And bc we already have certain images to the characters, its obviously normal that its hard to get used to a character that looks completetly different than how we got to know them. I don't think people have to insult these actors, but they have a right to criticise those who casted them. Me personally, I think them looking older and more defined in their faces made it more believable that they are in a time where war is normal and kids have to mature faster. Thats why I dislike katara bc she doesn't resemble (looks wise) the character I know. She looks like a child. The characters in the Og might be considered to be children bc of our worldview but in the past there were no teenagers, there were adults and kids, and 14 year olds were much more mature and considered to be adults, thats why they don't look like 14 year olds today, more like 18 year olds today
The main thing here is the Immersion is lessen dramatically because they don't resemble the character at all. I respect that you like them but to us, it just feels weird and a bit off. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. When doing adaptation, creators should be ready to respect the source material, and that includes the physical appearance of everything and everyone. Not just for the actors, but also the set, the animals, the props. That's why it made me wonder, how come they managed to replicate everything from the set(omashu, fire nation, wolf cove), and even the animals like appa and momo, but feels like they deliberately failed the casting of OZAI's angels? People might get mad at me but it is in our nature to judge first on appearance before we even go for the acting part. That's just how it's been ever since, whether you look for acting, personality, or qualifications of a person, you will always judge them first based on their appearance. So Appearance do matter here. It's okay if they don't look the same like how zuko is quite far from the animated version because of his rounded face but at least, for some reason, Dallas still managed to convince me that he is Zuko. Azula's, specially Mai's actresses were not even close to the original characters appearance at all. The only thing going for them is the clothes, remove that and you will not even think about Azula or Mai. Gordon, if you remove his Airbender clothes, I can still see Aang on him. That's how good his casting is.
Yeah I was let down. I know they are young but I figured these girls would have had a stronger appearance and stature. I’m sorry those girls may be good ppl but they were not the best ppl to cast for those roles. Shame on Netflix
03:52 "How they look is not how the character acts. A person's facial structure is not gonna change who the character is" - you obviously haven't done martial arts and months long training bootcamps. Over years of it, your face structure, BMI and muscle tone changes drastically, also strenghtening inner discipline, decission making, strickness and stamina, that DOES reflect on the caracter. These girls, who are suppose to be the offspring of FireLord himself, look like they haven't gone through even kindergarden lvl of training. Bad casting. The actresses are fine for any other type of movie, but not for a legendary oriental-martial-arts based movie. Westernising, wishfull thinking and sugarcoating is poisonous.
It has nothing to do with fat shaming or anything like that… it’s just that they could have found actresses that looked more like the cartoon characters which are a little more angular and wirey.. it doesn’t make you a monster for not feeling like they are a great fit based on their looks… especially since so many of the other characters look VERY similar to thier cartoon counterparts. They are beautiful girls, but they don’t look anything like the characters they are playing.. it’s a fair criticism..
Lookswise, I was off putted by Azula, but I said whatever and moved on. But when I saw Ty Lee and Mai I couldn’t believe it. They look nothing like their cartoon versions and it’s kinda sad.
Imagine if aang’s live action cast was some tall fat kid with hair. That’s what Mai’s live action is to her anime counterpart. Stop using the excuse of “oH tHiS a LiVe AcTiOn, iTs NoT SuPpOsEd To Be ThE sAmE”
Nah they look chubby 😂 but no Mai is supposed to be a tall slender girl, and I know she can probably act well but that’s not the characteristics of Mai , I know those are real kids but im blaming the casting not them
The character of wolverine is supposed to be short but they cast that Hugh Jackman who is a really tall guy but that seem to not bother anyone when that was a thing?
Yup. They're chubby. But that's not the worst of it. The acting and directing of this scene were awful. They're just standing there, talking-not showing. Tylee should be practicing handstands while talking. Mai should have her own target for knife-throwing. And Azula? Ugh. Her acting seems flat and monotone. I was excited about the series. But now, this scene has me worried.
That's valid. But it's just one scene... and just backstory I bet. They won't even be important characters or more developed characters until later. Also, it's not like live action Tai Lee can be like animated Tai Lee.. people really need to tamper expectations when it comes to character. It's much, much harder to capture quirkiness (handstands or weird facial reactions for example) in live action than animation. Just take it for what it is. It's going ti be different but we shouldn't automatically think that means bad.
They aren’t chubby man sorry they look fine. Also they don’t need to have any of those things happening during the conversation. Sure maybe Ty Lee could be doing headstands but in this case they want to see her do her archery stuff.
A character's look and the way the character acts are both part of the character. Why do you think everyone got annoyed that Zuko was Indian, and Katara, Aang, and Sokka were all white in the first live action? Of course the characters looking accurate matters. If only the acting matters then would it be ok to cast men in the roles who can perfectly act like them? Looks do matter. And it of course like you said is a nitpick. Its not like people are saying the show is ruined.
Yeah I mean given the fact that there are probably dozens-hundreds of actresses who look like Azula (pointy chin and all), this is throwing me off but it won’t destroy the show for me
You’re missing the point of what I’m saying I’m talking about in the basis of the context of the criticisms and the harsh words that people are levying at the actresses. We’re specifically talking about really dumb nitpicky details like facial structure. What does this truly have anything to do with how this character will be personified? I’ll give you the answer… nothing.
@uncleirohsteashop of course it has to do with how they are personified. The way a character looks is part of that character. If someone doesn't look like you yet acts like you in front of people who know you they'd still wouldn't feel that person is you. People grow up with characters looking how they do. Of course if an actor playing them doesn't look like them they'd be thrown off by that. Does it mean. The show is ruined? No. But I wouldn't call it a dumb nitpick. I'd call it an obvious flaw. Now should people start insulting the actresses? No I don't think so. But pointing out that an actress doesn't look like the character isn't someone being dumb it's just them using their eyes.
I love how Mai does a sarcastic comment on Zuko being the first in line, then gets a stern look from Azula that causes her to step back and add "...Not that he deserves to be." showing how abusive Azula's relationship is with her "friends", and how much they're secretly scared of her. THAT'S the kind of characterization that makes me so sure it will be a great series, that gets the characters right
All of you act as if Mai's entire character arc and personality is so complex. They should've gotten an actress that looked a little bit more like the show... they pulled through with Ty Lee and Azula ( as close as possible ) It's not like Mai's actress is doing some Oscar level acting. There are dozens of other Asian actresses that can pull of Mai..
Fat shaming the actresses is scummy, as is making judgments on their appearance and factors like facial structure (which are beyond the actresses' control), but to say that 1) Characterization or Appearance matter as mutually exclusive factors in an adaptation; and 2) that characterization can offset a blunder in adapting appearance which is of this magnitude; is flat out wrong. Whether or not she looks chubby is up to the standards of the onlookers, but we know Mai is an assassin and meant to be nimble and lean with a body capable of explosive power you wouldn't expect from someone of her stature. That aspect is completely lost, and no amount of characterization can fix that. As much as my views are congruent with yours on the characterization itself, I can't say I think it's a good casting choice.
The characters were so well portrayed. What I loved the most is that they look like ACTUAL TEENAGERS, like, in the cartoon they looked like more adult-ish or more late teenager side. But thinking they are around 13-14 yo, i think they really look amazing. I wasn't very sure about Ty Lee and Mai but now I can see why they were choosen for the roles. They really fit their characters.
@@cupidok2768 the problem I'm seeing more than the cgi is the choreography. Specially with earthbenders. They do the movements but there's no weight in them so it doesn't look right. Their postures aren't firm nor strong enough like they did in the cartoon.
I have to disagree on that. The weight of a character does matter because it is part of her personality. Ty Lee is an acrobat, Azula and May are both highly skilled fighters. They dont look like they could fight. That said in real life they dont look chubby. I think the costume design is just off. It feels like they are wearing clothes that you would wear when its minus 20 degrees outside. The clothes are just too puffy. Having sharper and tighter clothes would fit to their personality and make them look more sporty.
"how they look is not how characters act" Bro why not why not make azula a male then ? Or make Aang 30 ? Do think if actors manage to do their job so good those wouldn't be a problem? OFCOURSE it's it's a problem if you make slimmest character chubby . people would want to see more accurate portrayed of the characters. And sorry to say this but it includes appearance too. (Btw I wouod be okay to Azula if she was as calm and fearsome as Animated series but it's not actess fault I guess. Writers should have do better for this case)
I'm sorry guys these three characters are hard core. Lee is a gymnast, mai is a martial artist and Azula... need I say more. Does not matter how old you are if you land a role like Azula you can at least get in shape. Not saying I'm not going to like the actresses but they can put some effort in.
@notsobestie2487 yeah christian bale starved himself on tuna and apples for the mechinist. Not saying that's the way to go but getting in shape is not rocket science.
Yeah, I'm chubby myself (working on it), I know I would be upset if they give us a chubby Dick Grayson, he is an acrobat so his body has to represent that. Similar to any character that does sports or hardcore activities their physique is going to represent that sport. Like a swimmer or gymnastics body.
None of the three ladies were casted correctly. If they’re trying to have their own perception of these characters then sure. But if they were seriously trying to cast them based on the cartoon then they did so horribly. Yall know they only casted Mai like that cause they wanted to be inclusive 🙄 nothing against the actress, but I hate that this is what they wanna do now. These ladies are supposed to look older, be fit and look badass. None of them give off the aura that their cartoon counterparts did.
They really picked the chubbiest Asian girls they could find for Azula and Mai😂😂 Be real here, people are gonna comment on their looks and compare them to the animated version. People can dislike the casting because they don't look the part.
2:55 This opinion is pretty dumb. This ain't about nitpicking, would you be okay if Aang is a tall buff black man? Mai is suppose to be a nimble assasin, if you're saying a chubby person is a good personification of assasin, then you're lying to yourself. Azula is... Alright, is the most kind compliment I could give her. But I'd say people's protest about her appearance are justified. Now I agree with you that they may be able to deliver their character pretty well, but you can't possibly be honest to yourself and say netflix could've find a better suited cast for their character. This is clearly netflix's agenda trying to potray chubby person can also be a badass just like they remove Sokka's sexism in the film.
Why does current media pretend that light, athletic girls don't exist, like in the millions, doing gymnastics, ballet etc? . It's not this unachievable standard... and it's not going to break the show for me, but seriously do these actresses look athletic? They could have cast a paler, slighter Japanese girl to play Mai, clearly the aesthetic would be more accurate. And I'm sure they exist and are decent enough actors. Playing someone disinterested and distant and too cool for things isn't exactly asking for Oscar-winning acting ability. As a support character I would rather they look and act generally the part to play off the bigger characters. When you cast someone physically suspect in a role for someone who is meant to be physically exceptional, it DOES ruin the immersion. Stop pretending that it doesn't... You are deluding yourself for the sake of sparing the actresses feelings, and you know that that's what you're doing.
Nah bro, they look chubby, lets be real. Anyways it requires much better acting to steablize, what i am saying is that if Netflix would have choosen similar looking actress, it would be some score even if acting is bad. And now acting must carry all the scores. Let us see

I'm mainly disappointed in Azula not being Azula. She's just a female Zuko. Azula was supposed to always be cold and calculating, she strived on her father's approval and the father always encouraged her and anything she wanted he let her have, he spoiled her and always made her think she was the best. Listen, people have a right to be upset about Azula and Mai's looks since they are portraying characters from a beloved show. It is completely understandable that people want them to look alike. Azula and Mai look NOTHING like the people they are representing. They should look sharp and dangerous, but the show runners have cast full faced actors who don't give of the same vibe. I think it's just hard to take these girls seriously. It's different when it's animated but considering them some type of intimidating threat with this portrayal is difficult. That's how I think they've missed the mark here. The Azula actress just doesn't have that "crazy", unhinged look to her, idk how to describe it properly, that I think the character needs. People like you have got to stop dismissing legitimate criticism just because there's a few loudmouths overreacting.
I think Mai's actress just needs a slight adjustment to makeup. Slightly darker lip makeup, less color on the cheeks, slightly darker wig. She just needs to have a little bit more emo/normie contrast from ty lee and azula that just straight bangs doesn't really do.
I was actually a bit underwhelmed at first when I found out that Elizabeth Yu was cast because I didn't think she looked menacing or cunning enough to be Azula. She has a very sweet and friendly looking face. But after seeing that clip, I can see why they hired her. Her tone and line delivery is perfectly in line with Azula's, albeit less theatrical but more realistic imo (I think that this makes sense considering its being translated into a live action and it would be strange for her to be delivering her lines the way Grey DeLisle did. It did would be too awkward and over the top). However, I think that it would be interesting for Azula's character to become more and more unhinged throughout the season/s and speak more like the way she did in the animated series. I genuinely wish the best for her and all the actors in the series though, especially the child/young actors. I'm so excited to see it!
Feeling that an actor’s looks doesn’t match the character is totally fair for a live action remake. That’s the reason a lot of people didn’t like the ATLA movie. Obviously, it’s not okay to bully the actors as they didn’t make that decision and they’re young. I don’t think it’s fair also that people call those that aren’t pleased with the casting (even if it’s just based on how they look) as all fat shaming, creeps. There’s nothing wrong with how these girls look, they just simply don’t look like the characters, especially Mai and Azula. Let’s stop pretending that they do because they don’t.
In the animation for Mai, you’ll notice she has a focused look, like she is trying to figure something out but hates having to do it. In live action she just looks bored lol
I don't blame or hate the actresses, especially when they are kids, i blame whoever put them in these roles. They did Mai and Azula dirty, they supposed to be fit and fierce warriors with faces full of confidence. They train regularly, they take part in real military operations. But instead in the show we got a minecraft dirt block with a belly and your regular grandma's favorite granddaughter. They got it good with the Avatar, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Ty Lee, why would they miscast Mai and Azula so badly?
I think its completely fine to nitpick there looks. Generally people want characters to look the part. Mai do be looking like she had too many of those tarts she had zuko get for her 😂😂😂 it doesnt ruin the character for me but lets be honest
I feel like they got ty lee right.. Azula a bit different coz she's leaner in animation, but mai omg.. Mai had refined delicate features with a slender body.. But maybe they're the better actresses that's why they where cast....
@@BibirKoiyeah that’s not funny. I completely agree that she shouldn’t be playing mai since she looks nothing like her. But the actor did nothing wrong
1. yes they look nothing like the cartoon which is half dissapointing. 2. they did a good job at portraying the characters. do i like it? mehh... shudve done a bit more casting
I disagree that characters’ looks don’t matter and pointing that out is bad criticism. Yes, at the end of the day acting matters the most but their appearances still should reflect who the characters are as people. For example Azula is supposed to be extremely athletic, if anything the live action should be even more precise with this than the animated series, and I’m sorry but Azula’s actress in Netfix’ show just isn’t it as opposed to for example Zuko’s actor who for obvious reasons is very athletic - because he actually would need to perform all the martial art scenes and again last time I checked Azula did way more crazier stuff in terms of athleticism than Zuko ever did and yet her actress’ appearance doesn’t really reflect that. Maybe her acting is top notch, still this one piece of the character is missing. Anyway we’ll see how it actually goes in the show.
But who’s to say that she’s not gonna be athletic and look like she’s doing crazy stuff in action? I feel like you’re just saying that and we haven’t gotten enough to see that she will be doing some dope stuff in the action scenes in the future.
@@uncleirohsteashop "But who’s to say that she’s not gonna be athletic and look like she’s doing crazy stuff in action?" - all I'm saying is that she doesn't look athletic right now (maybe she will in the future). It's not the end of the world and at the end of the day she probably won't have many action scenes in this season anyway but this is the situation we have right now and I don't think bringing up her appearance as a concern is inappropriate. But yes, you are right, we need to see the show first.

Good comment. People are bullying the girl on her socials over this.
Yeah it’s kinda disappointing, ATLA (original) practically achieved legendary status among cartoons. You would have thought they’d try to go all out into perfecting this after the horrible 2010 film. Not only that but they kinda got rid of many aspects of the original
Zuko's actor is amazing though.
I'm sorry. I don't condone fat-shaming but if you put Mai's animated version side by side with the "Mai" from Netflix at 4:05, the "Mai" from Netlfix looked like she just ate an entire box of Twinkies.

All I want is for Azula to be extra crazy
Might not happen as much in season 1.(azula only appears twice in the original first season, flashback and last episode) but hope for season 2
I would actually prefer her being a bit less crazy or at least get a deeper look into her character (which looks like they're doing). Otherwise, in the cartoon, she appears to be almost a full-on sociopath to me. I had zero empathy for her and didn't really understand why she was crying in the end

3. Azula: This character is special, she is literally a psychopath, very cunning, at first appearing cold and calculating, with an aura that inspires caution, almost showing no feelings, but understanding them and using them against everyone she encounters. oppose, almost seeing people as mere pieces in a game.In my opinion, and from the short glance, Azula fails immensely in it, Ty Lee may be saved, but she still needs to get closer to the character, I would have expected an actress who did rhythmic gymnastics, but well, maybe this actress is, Who knows and it will surprise us, otherwise it will be another fail, and as for Mai, I would also have to see more of her, the time she has been out so far is very short.

you are wrong on this one.

Facts brother
Why are so many characters in live action so...Wide. Both body and face.
Lmfao😂 well said
Casting for them was in 4:3 not 16:9😂
Zuko and Mai 😂😂😂 hilarious
In US is pretty hard to find slim actors.
Plus usually Asians have wider faces.
Because they haven’t been cultivating Asian acting talents. Now they facing problems where the ones with pretty face can’t act on these complex roles
They did mai dirty!

@BibirKoi ok, that was not needed
The characters were so well portrayed. What I loved the most is that they look like ACTUAL TEENAGERS, like, in the cartoon they looked like more adult-ish or more late teenager side. But thinking they are around 13-14 yo, i think they really look amazing. I wasn't very sure about Ty Lee and Mai but now I can see why they were choosen for the roles. They really fit their characters.
I'm not sure, but I think at the time of filming, they may have actually been teenagers.
the CGs look so ..... something not right. even the martial art movements look.......... off
@@cupidok2768 the problem I'm seeing more than the cgi is the choreography. Specially with earthbenders. They do the movements but there's no weight in them so it doesn't look right. Their postures aren't firm nor strong enough like they did in the cartoon.
@@cupidok2768I think it looks good though
I think only azula was adult-ish in the cartoon with reason tho. Zuko acted like a edgy teenager, but he had a thousands of reasons to be like that
I have to disagree on that.
Face too round looks almost laughable 😂
Fandom too toxic its almost laughable 😂
"how they look is not how characters act"
Bro why not why not make azula a male then ? Or make Aang 30 ?
Do think if actors manage to do their job so good those wouldn't be a problem? OFCOURSE it's it's a problem if you make slimmest character chubby . people would want to see more accurate portrayed of the characters. And sorry to say this but it includes appearance too.
(Btw I wouod be okay to Azula if she was as calm and fearsome as Animated series but it's not actess fault I guess. Writers should have do better for this case)
Azula and Mai are so chubby😂😂😂
I'm sorry guys these three characters are hard core. Lee is a gymnast, mai is a martial artist and Azula... need I say more. Does not matter how old you are if you land a role like Azula you can at least get in shape. Not saying I'm not going to like the actresses but they can put some effort in.
I don’t think there’s any problem with them I think they look perfectly fine
@@uncleirohsteashopIf that's your opinion... sure why not...
💯 there are so many actresses that try to be thinner or fatter for the role to fit the story
What excuse did they get here?
@notsobestie2487 yeah christian bale starved himself on tuna and apples for the mechinist. Not saying that's the way to go but getting in shape is not rocket science.
Yeah, I'm chubby myself (working on it), I know I would be upset if they give us a chubby Dick Grayson, he is an acrobat so his body has to represent that. Similar to any character that does sports or hardcore activities their physique is going to represent that sport. Like a swimmer or gymnastics body.
It doesn't matter how they act. If they don't look like the character, it ruins the emerson of the show. It's just overall bad casting.
Okay, Azula is actually fine tbh, but Mai!!!?? AYO COME ON!
They really picked the chubbiest Asian girls they could find for Azula and Mai😂😂
Be real here, people are gonna comment on their looks and compare them to the animated version. People can dislike the casting because they don't look the part.
They don't look any less chubby than the live action Zuko.
@@ThePrincessCHthe actor of zuko is actually an athlete, he has little chubby face but he's ripped asf
They are chubby though and look bad as the characters imo.
They are not chubby man they look fine you can have a rounder face and not look chubby
Agree - they are too chubby to play these characters...
Asians are generally thinner, it is amazing that the director manage to find 3 chubbies ones all at once.
I feel bad for laughing.
Agree!
Doesn't mean people should harass them on social media for the way they look.
Yea the acting sucks. Wasn’t intimidated by Azusa at all. The Yuyen archers were more terrifying than she was. That’s a problem.
Whoever was in charge of casting Mai needs to be fired oh my Jesus 💀
Nah bro, they look chubby, lets be real. Anyways it requires much better acting to steablize, what i am saying is that if Netflix would have choosen similar looking actress, it would be some score even if acting is bad. And now acting must carry all the scores. Let us see
So are you trying to tell me that you would rather take terrible acting with perfect looks?
@@uncleirohsteashop no i m not saying so, come on now bro

azula was suppose to be terrifying. not Huggable😂 and Mai. Mai ate zuko.
I'm mainly disappointed in Azula not being Azula. She's just a female Zuko. Azula was supposed to always be cold and calculating, she strived on her father's approval and the father always encouraged her and anything she wanted he let her have, he spoiled her and always made her think she was the best. This portrayal made no sense. It was a problem with the script of course. She loved to hurt little animals and loved hurting anyone that was weak. Ozai never showed any disinterest in her, when he does leave as the Phoenix King and let's her be Fire Lord she becomes hurt that she couldn't go with him.
After the first episode of this show, I am sorry to say that I was right.
While the show gets the music, bending, and martial arts right, the casting is horrible, the acting is horrible, and people are just standing around like statues as they talk.
I couldn't finish the first episode. So disappointed.
They didn’t get be music right .. they play a tad bit of the original score but most wasn’t the original, I didn’t like that but I agree with everything else u said
Why isn’t aang 5’10” and black? Should be fine if they play him right, correct?
These is the same people that got mad when M Night casted actors that doesn't fit the cartoon looks lol 😂. These people are hypocrite
@@ahmadkhairul337 right. Notice how it mainly happens when someone is attacking a woman’s weight though.

Azula is the worst mismatch in the movie.
She should have looked like a crazy clever adult fit like a gymnast but in Netflix it's a fat spoiled kid.
It's really not that serious
they don't look like the characters at all is skinny and nimble trim and lean she is a fighter who is agile not what this actress looks like at all and ty lee is the same fit and strong fast and nimble from being in the circus and also her fighting skills, these two don't look like they can do anything like that. azula as well looks horrible.
I don’t know man I don’t see any problem with these actresses on their looks. If they start participating in action scenes and prove you wrong I certainly hope that happens.
Mai is a miscast. No denying it. She doesn't look like Mai at all. Oh and Wolverine is still too tall & Bond is still too blonde.
Bro, ease back on the soy. If people don't like it, they don't like it.
Your whining about social media and nearly demanding that people should just accept everything as "OK" is the same formula as people who think they can craft people's taste in aesthetics.
Take a hint from the backlash of Sweet Baby inc, if your first solution is to blame criticism and not look at the problem. Then the problem is most likely you.
Tell the actress to get it shape. The actress may have gotten the role but they don’t look like the character animated version. Aang, and soma looks perfect
I'm sure there are people out there being mean. But people want to see characters that are more authentic to the cartoon and the characters that they so love. No one has a problem with iroh having a belly. But I think everyone would be upset if there was a heavy set version of Aang. So get off of your liberal high horse and stop preaching.
The movie was a comedy, the series spits on everything avatar the last airbender is. It's dissapointing.
I always thought the girls looked so cool through the series, and Azula has been the crush of many. I can not see this anymore. I always thought the trio should look hot, but their sweet faces don't fit their characters. Stop gaslighting people!

If you think I’m gaslighting people because I think it’s ridiculous that people have to be dicks about how these actresses look then you’re out of line. It’s one thing to criticize how they are portraying the character versus a dumb asshole take of saying “they look fat” when they don’t look fat at all
@Tamashikusho Don't be a hypocrite they did look hot in the series, and they could look better in the new show.
These ladies did a great job with their performances. The only gripe I have is with Netflix for failing to provide Avatar with a budget large enough for high quality costumes and wigs. This franchise deserved better than costumes little better than cheap street-level cosplay.
They don't make me feel like I'm watching the trio, I don't think more scenes will change anything. Even Tai Lee doesn't feel like anything like the original... Unlike Zuko and Sokka who I can almost close my eyes and feel the original character. Honestly sounds like you trying to force your opinions upon people, on the contrary the fact that you could give these girls this much credit from one scene. Your tapped, no offense brah but that ain't Azula, Lee, and Mai, more like Ember Island Players version.
Live action of Avatar is not accurate. They look like they're well taken care by Ozai
Thank you for calling those comments out. The casting is fantastic and it is the shallowest form of “criticism”

Clearly they have watched the show because as far as I watched the kids are giving me some of that persona that the cartoon versions had. I don’t care about the facial features and structure of what they look like.
I can see why the creators dropped out! 😅
Ty lee is good, but mai? oh boy everyones disappointed. Dont even sugar coat
But all three of them need to look muscular, athletic, and fit. Like gymnasts. They just look like all of us normal people.
Azula was so boring in that clip
She wasn't supposed to be fun or interesting. Probably wont be until later. She wasn't in the first season in the animated series either.
Azula is a character that people have to grow to feel more as the show goes on
I don't blame or hate the actresses, especially when they are kids, i blame whoever put them in these roles.
Thank you! I’m so tired of all the shallow comments. It’s getting so out of hand.
This live adaptation was meh, some good and some bad. Now i know why the creators left
But maybe they're the better actresses that's why they where cast....

azula didn’t tbh. I mean it’s not the actress’s fault but like, azula here is whinier and more emotional, not calm or calculating
