I haven't seen this but it makes complete sense that Burton would keep things on-brand with that signature Gothic/Whimsy/Offbeat viewpoint. Really interested now whether your fascination is more tied to these specific subgenres being easier to find in general media nowadays or if it's to do with the strong vision of the individual artist?
Definitely strong vision of the individual artist. I always really appreciate that, regardless of whether it is in the realm of a subgenre that is less mainstream. =)
I’m glad you liked it! My wife and I tried and just couldn’t get into it. It’s probably because YA stuff isn’t really our jam. We just barely made it through Dead Boy Detectives because it was feeling too “teeny-bopper” for us. As far as favorite unlikable MCs in film, I’d probably go with Hailee Steinfeld’s character from the movie, Edge of Seventeen. She was written so well that even though she’s an insufferable teenager, you still root for her towards the end. As far as unlikable MCs in television, recently I’d have to say Daniel Ings’ character, Freddy Halstead in the Netflix series “The Gentlemen”. The dude is a screw-up and a prick, but somehow you still love him. Or, love to hate him? I’m not sure which…
Yeah, it is definitely solidly in the YA category, so I can see why you two wouldn't enjoy it. I actually haven't seen either of the shows/movies you've mentioned, but I keep meaning to watch The Gentlemen! I love a good screw-up character.
@@FayeFiteFiction The Gentleman series is SO GOOD! I’d recommend watching the movie first, if you haven’t already. The series and the movie aren’t connected, but it gives you a feel of the universe it’s in. Plus, it’s Guy Richie movie, and he has a distinct feel to his movies that are fun.
