Woah that affirmations card is a great idea. I spent several school years + most summers abroad during my grad career and it was freaking hard but I was also so grateful to be able to do so, but I feel like having something like that, to so intentionally create and refer to regarding my time and work there there/my relationships etc would have been super helpful for me.
It definitely has helped my head space sooo much more this time!! I spend so much time abroad but have been dreading this trip so much just because of the distance. Getting in the right mind set has made this first 5 weeks go by honestly way more quickly than I thought !
This was what I needed today, thank you! I don't know if you shared this before but how did you get to the point of deciding Australia and France would be your research focuses, and is there one you prefer? How do you keep track about the info of the specific soldiers you're researching, do you use spreadsheets or computer folders? Love that you provided the dates of when you're filming, it's so much easier to follow along when youtubers do that. Regarding my own research, I am in undergrad at the moment but have been working on two papers. One is about Masculinity & Culture in Jacobite Scotland, which hopefully I will get to share at my College's Undergrad History Conference. Then, my other paper is about Fatima Jinnah for my Postcolonial Feminist independent study, which I will get to present at my University's General Undergrad Conference. So that's some exciting research things going on for me
I definitley prefer France, but just because I have a much longer history with studying France, and that country just has a special place in my heart. I decided about a year and a half in to add in Australia, because comparative studies make you more marketable on the job market! I have a spreadsheet for every archive I go to, and then I have a spreadsheet for all the families I research that has quick facts about the soldiers service, their wives, children etc... I use google drive/external hard drive to store the photos, and notion to take notes on everything! Wow both of those sound super interesting, but both so different from each other! Good luck on those conference preparations, that sounds fun!
@@KatherineWeiss Ah that makes sense and sounds super smart! As for your organization that makes sense. Yea they're quite different from each other but that's just how undergrad goes haha, thank you!
