Joplin does have all the things shown here.... It also has lots of volunteer opportunities if you want to invest in your community between animal rescues (golden paw), food pantries, soup kitchens, and churches. Their is a large homeless population that seems to be growing and the soup kitchens are always in need of donations and smiling faces to volunteer. Joplin also has a large group of citizens that struggle with addiction so keep that in mind when moving to this area. you want to make sure ur aware of your surrounding especially on certain sides of town... It is a very family focused town in the more central areas and suburbs but there are cons like any town. But the thing with Joplin is there are so many people that want to help close those gaps to decrees the addiction rate and homeless community so if your someone who feels drawn to help others (that is part of why we moved here from a smaller town about an hour away) this is defiantly a place to come!

I lived in Joplin from 1985 to 2013. After the tornado, I had to move for lack of employment. It's just not the same Joplin anymore. Just not the home that I remember. I loved living in Joplin. Now, it's not home anymore. Now I have a new life in Idaho. No more tornadoes. No more death and destruction. I don't miss it at all.

I grew up in Columbus, Kansas and traveled frequently to Joplin Missouri. There are a lot of trashy people there. There was an occult living in the woods near black cat road that supposedly caused a car accident and disappearance of an individual. There is other weird incidents that have happened in the area.

The chance you will be a victim of some sort of crime is higher than most of the country. People act like Joplin is this cozy little town where nothing happens. Crime is out of control and all JPD cares about is traffic violations. Joplin blocks roads for marathons when there are miles and miles of trails just so people from out of town can inconvenience your commute. Don't believe me look up Joplin crime rate. It will make you think twice before moving here.
