The only good episodes had Thomas Jane in them. Also, we really didn't need *more* character development, the prior three seasons filled those gaps. Season 5 had better be better than this, Amazon Prime Video.

Chatham's break into acting came just three months before his tour was finished when Denzel Washington chose his ship to shoot the movie Antwone Fisher. Chatham was amongst those selected by casting director Robi Reed while Reed was searching for authentic-looking military personnel for the movie.
This looks amazing. I cannot believe we almost lost this show.

Can't wait. There is just something so real about the Expanse that I can't explain. When I watched it I almost felt I was part of the story as it was unfolding.

Mostly the fact that the characters and political organizations in the book act distinctly human, with flaws, as opposed to a lot of other sci-fi that tries to glorify a Utopian future.
The expanse is the only reason i started watching Amazon prime. It made every other space adventure since a "meh" experience

@Ganda Gandara What's wrong with Carter? I like Carter. She's only a quarter of SG1's problem solving archetypes. She's the scientist, Daniel's the diplomat, O'Neill is the strategist and tactician, and Teal'c has an inside perspective on the workings of the Goa'uld. He's also the muscle of the team. To say she solves all their problems is just plain wrong. They're a team, and all have their strengths and weaknesses.
I also don't see what you're saying with the "mom" thing. Carter looked *MIGHTY FINE*.

Just bingewatched season 1-3 and I'm so hyped to see season 4 now, because holy crap is this show amazing! The plot, the twists, the characters, the perfomance, the realism tied in with the fiction, everything is just awesome! One of the best shows out there!
I just noticed something really cool: The aspect ration changes between scenes. When a scene is on Ilus (or in orbit above it) the scenes are in widescreen, while in the Sol System they are at standard 16:9. It makes the atmosphere seem different, which works amazing.
Where no scifi series has gone before. This will be epic.

@hammertapping borrowing ideas and all from other stories isn't an issue, if used well. Similar with cliche's - they are that because they often are true, though they can be overused; tropes can be used badly, but also subverted. In my, and many others' opinion, the Expanse (both novels and the series) largely succeed in doing that to an interesting and enjoyable, extent. But you are free to have other things you prefer of course. What series would/do you prefer (and for what reasons?) - nothing is perfect, and humans are often subjective, but I'd be interested in a examples of what does it better; let's see whether we can find common ground there?

Honestly, I always thought they made him seem a bit less bright in the show. Like a bit more brute than he came across at least in the first half of the book series.
That being said, I do really love Wes' portrayal.

This show is better than Star Wars
I was a young kid when the original Star Wars trilogy came out in the 70's and 80's. Grew up on it, loved it, was disappointed by the late-90's reboot and disgusted by the current iteration. The Expanse is everything I loved about the original films, and so much more. Thanks to everyone making this incredible show and bringing great science fiction back to the screen :)
Im not sure, but im sure that thanks to Star Wars, SciFi is still alive today.
Raskolnikov70 The recent star movies are a rip off of the original Star Wars storylines. Also has major plot holes, amongst many other issues, and the target market seems to be kids. With the Expanse, I love the writing, acting, and the maturity level. I love action with some blood. And YES, THANKYOU!! :)

Easily the best since BSG 2004. Digging the Mandalorian as well. The whole western thing is jiving with Star Wars. Still, The Expanse is the greatest sci-fi show of all time. Stoked for the new season!
I thought The 100 was great at times, but the writing was subpar in later seasons. Still not as good as TE though.

Let me explain. Netflix for a while had the international streaming rights, but if I'm not mistaken, everything went to Amazon around Season 2. Let's say in the middle of Season 2, or at the start of Season 3, you got your friends into the show. Hey guys! You need to watch this show!
"Ok, but I'm not caught up!" Oh, just go and binge Season 1 and 2 on Amazon Prime, and then watch Season 3 with me and catch up!
Syfy doesn't get anything from word of mouth, because Amazon is getting everything. The only thing that they can get is whatever people watch when the episodes are aired, or whatever people watch on their website for a couple of months after the episodes air. And when you look at their viewership numbers, it's really quite understandable why they dropped the show, despite it garnering critical acclaim and having a rabid fandom.
Let's compare something like The Magicians to The Expanse. They were spending very little on The Magicians, and spending a lot on The Expanse. The results they were getting were that The Magicians was bringing in more viewers than The Expanse. Not a significant number of viewers mind you, but when you are spending a lot of money on a show and getting less viewers than one with a much tinier budget, it's definitely understandable why Syfy would react in the way that they did.
And as I stated before, I'm almost happy that they did, because Amazon has a platform where the show can thrive. Amazon will also treat it as a mainline property and give the show much more support than Syfy would. It's a blessing in disguise, really.
Better to end it when it's good than game of thronesing it.

I discovered this show last year and I’m so excited to see it continue. It’s replaced Game of Thrones for me and the cast is amazing.
game of thrones as good as it was.... just not the same caliber imho. Then again I have a hard sci fi bias when it comes to non fiction.

The fact that this show has a season 4 is the only reason the world hasn’t driven me insane.
Considering it has ended in a maaaajor cliffhanger, I am pretty sure there will also be a season 5.
season 4 was rubbish compared to the first 3. they are running out of ideas.
andy lai Well the next season will be based on Nemesis Games, which is in my opinion the best book in the series. So I have high hopes even though this season wasn’t as good as the others.
@@andylai-fz6uc Mate, its kinda hard to run out of ideas if the show is based on a book series, and the writers of the book series are closely involved with the series. Book 4 is considered to be the weakest in the whole series so it makes sense its not as action packed as season 2 and 3. The next few seasons are gonna blow your fucking mind.

i will say this with absolute confidence....this series is the new star trek and much more rooted in relaism & depicts the human condition better than any space opera...for me personally, the expanse is right there between star trek and star wars....simply awesome

I love seeing all the moments I read in the book become actual scenes in the show. This was one of my favorite books in the series. Super excited to see particular moments :D
You can definitely see the Amazon budget in this trailer. It looks amazing! Not that it didn't before, but the CGI and cinematography are noticeably improved.

The Expanse is the most realistic and only truly hard-SF show I have seen on video. It is a treasure and I am beyond glad that it will be back. I love the books, but I also love the program just as much - that alone is rare to find. They are both brilliant, source and video version together. And this, series 4, covers my very favorite book in the entire Expanse... so... I am so very happy!

@@GeordiLaForgery I went and looked up Lyndie Greenwood, and the first image I saw my brain just went 'Dr. Okoye! There you are!". The casting for The Expanse just keeps smashing my brain - the actors they pick just match what my mind envisioned reading the books. I honestly don't know how they do it.
@@Kazemahou Yeah funny you say that because it wasn't until after I watched the first 3 seasons that I wanted to read the books, the casting really helped immerse me into the books because they are so great.
@@GeordiLaForgery One character I personally think they did better in the show than in the books is Alex. In the books, he is kind of bald and tubby, but in the show he is... extremely awesome.

This show has excellent characters played by an excellent cast. The one playing Holden is quite shallow compared to the others though but I don't mind. The rest of them just blow my mind.

Those good old wormholes and stargate type devices are always a helpful kick for any space travel or time travel theme. The Proto Molecule is a real interesting twist. The actors, the writing and the theme of The Expanse is really great and well worth watching. I am real happy Season 4 came along. Thank you Prime Video.

@@akrybion Judging on some leaks from "filming locations" that "big thing" will most definitely happen. Besides, they've been hinting at the "big thing" since season 1.
The fifth book honestly shocked me. I remember actually having to close my jaw after dropping it. The "big thing" drops real hard xD
